It is now, as a result of the path-breaking research by Dr Charan Kamal Singh, that the term ‘Ghar’ has been presented the way it has never been done so far. It is for the first time that ‘Ghar’ has been related to each and every sentence of Gurbani. And all types of ‘Ghar’ of ‘sabads’ as well as ‘chhants’ have been established. In addition to the term Ghar, the ambiguity surrounding the term ‘Rahao’ has also been cleared authentically for the first time. This all-inclusive book contains all the technicalities of ‘Ghar’ including numerical and grammatical aspects and presents the facts in a simple, understandable way. The book relates to all those who read Gurbani, who perform Gurbani Kirtan, who listen to Gurbani Kirtan, who do Sehaj Path and who do Nitnem. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Appreciation No matter what the occasion, every Sikh religious service concludes with the reading of a hymn from the Guru Granth. Sikhs in attendance listen to it most raptly so as to understand this guiding message from the Guru Granth. But understanding the sacred poetry of Gurbani is not always so easy. At least four complete translations in English of the entire Guru Granth existby Manmohan Singh, Gopal Singh, Gurbachan Singh Talib, and Pritam Singh Chahalalong with many excellent translations of selections of Gurbani. However, Daljit Singh Jawas work is different.Mr. Jawa does not provide a literal translation of the entire shabad. Instead he gives the central idea of the shabad followed by a commentary on its theme and essential meaning. This would automatically enhance an understanding of the shabad. Sikhism teaches that the only way for a Sikh to talk to his Guru, the only way that the Guru in the Guru Granth comes alive is when a Sikh reads and tries to understand the word of the Guru. Mr. Jawas work - a labor of love - is an attempt to facilitate the latter. Sikh tradition dictates that this hymn is the one on the left page when the Guru Granth is opened at random, which usually means the middle half or so of the Guru Granth. Mr Jawas novel attempt takes advantage of this and his book covers only the first shabad on the left (even numbered) folia from pages 300 to 1100. Sikhs everywhere will find this book most useful as long as they are not content merely to read it as the final word but take it as a guide to foster further thinking and understanding about what they are reading. Download or read book The Guru Granth Sahib written by Pashaura Singh and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003-09-26 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines three closely related questions in the process of canon formation in the Sikh tradition: how the text of the Adi Granth came into being, the meaning of gurbani, and how the Adi Granth became the Guru Granth Sahib. The censure of scholarly research on the Adi Granth was closely related to the complex political situation of Punjab and brought the whole issue of academic freedom into sharper focus. This book addresses some of these issues from an academic perspective. The Adi Granth, the sacred scripture of the Sikhs, means ‘first religious book’ (from the word ‘adi’ which means ‘first’ and ‘granth’ which means ‘religious book’). Sikhs normally refer to the Adi Granth as the Guru Granth Sahib to indicate a confession of faith in the scripture as Guru. The contents of the Adi Granth are commonly known as bani (utterance) or gurbani (the utterance of the Guru). The transcendental origin (or ontological status) of the hymns of the Adi Granth is termed dhur ki bani (utterance from the beginning). This particular understanding of revelation is based upon the doctrine of the sabad, or divine word, defined by Guru Nanak and the succeeding Gurus. This book also explores the revelation of the bani and its verbal expression, devotional music in the Sikh tradition, the role of the scripture in Sikh ceremonies, and the hymns of Guru Nanak and Guru Arjan.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A spiritual person is when their mind becomes one with the Creator God. Then, the mind absorbs the qualities of God and acts like a spiritual master. He is no more under the effects of Maya, which is another of Gods creation in which the mind is prisoner and to its five vices (lust, anger, greed, attachments and ego). It becomes calm, quiet, peaceful, acts to the Will of God and is in bliss always. It happens when the Mind is meditating on God and thinks about God always. For this spiritual mind, everything happening in the world is OK as its happening to His Will. He lives a life of truthful dealings with other persons, earns an honest living and shares with others. He becomes pure in thoughts, words and deeds. His mind becomes pure like its Creator, Himself. He is the most dependable friend and reliable companion. The above qualities can be achieved by one who only lives for the service of people and to whom everybody is the child of God. This person has no desires for him and lives for his family and others. His happiness lies in service and the welfare of others. Such a person has no desires and attachments in this world and lives a worry free life; always content with his/her lot. This book tells how to achieve such a state of mind. The mind is Gods child and we here, on Earth, to play in the hands of God as per destiny written by Him. If we accept Him, pray to Him and meditate on him in the way this book guides, there is a chance to win freedom from the cycle of births and deaths and live with him in peace and bliss forever. The path to bliss and peace is fully explained in this book.

Book Sicques Tigers or Thieves

Download or read book Sicques Tigers or Thieves written by Amandeep Singh Madra and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1812, Sir John Malcolm, a Lieutenant General in the British Army wrote A Sketch of the Sikhs , commonly believed to be the first account of the Sikhs written by a non-Sikh. In truth, soldiers, travellers, diplomats, missionaries and scholars had provided accounts for many years before. Drawing on this difficult-to-access material, the editors of this volume have compiled a unique source that offers a fascinating insight into the early developments in Sikh history. From the first ever written accounts of the Sikhs by Persian chroniclers of the Moghul Emperor to the travel diary of an Englishwoman, this volume contains material invaluable to those studying the evolution of the Sikh religion as well as to those interested in learning more about this major religion. It also provides an unparalleled look into the growth and solidification of the religious practices of Sikhs. At a time when the misunderstanding of the Sikh religion and those who practise it has reached new and deadly heights, this volume hopes to introduce a wider audience to the roots of its culture. Book excerpt: In Volume Four of It Is The Same Light series (SGGS pages 601-800), author Daljit Singh Jawa continues to share the beauty of the SGGS with those who have limited familiarity with the language (Gurumukhi), history, or context. The following are some of the comments received on volume 1 of this series. This translation of Guru Granth Sahib is one of the best English translations in my view, as it is in simple understandable English, each shabads summary message is given, there is connection between the shabads to reveal continuity of thought process in Guru jis message. Thanks to S Daljit Singh ji for the great work which will benefit future generations understand Guru Jis message easily. -Amarjit Singh, M.D., University at Buffalo, Buffalo, New York A monumental undertaking, reflecting a lifetime of devotion to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib and to the scholarly study of its voluminous texts. Both its rendition of the original Gurmukhi script, with accompanying English transliteration, and its erudite commentary on each of the Granths many hymns mark this work as a stunning achievement which will benefit all serious students of the Sikh religion and of world religions in general. -Barry Crawford, Ph.D., Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas

Book excerpt: Heirs of the Land book represents the History of the Sikhs in a true spirit before the Mankind; and emboldens and encourage especially the Heirs of the Great Punjab, the Sikhs, to study their history, its people, and places those that had been ignored not only by the Indian and Pakistan States sponsored so-called Historians, but also, who are trying hard to dilute the Sikh Revolution of the SatGuru Nnak Sahib.
