Book Getting to the Left of Sharp Lessons Learned from West Point s Efforts to Combat Sexual Harassment and Assault

Download or read book Getting to the Left of Sharp Lessons Learned from West Point s Efforts to Combat Sexual Harassment and Assault written by U. S. Army War College and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-02-04 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Army has been and is struggling with sexual harassment, assault, and rape in its ranks, but the future can be different. In this monograph, three seasoned officers and one cadet propose a series of steps-based on West Point's experiences-to "get to the left" of these incidents by changing the cultural structures that allow them to occur. This will only become more critical as the Army works on the policies that will fully integrate women into the combat arms, introducing women to sub-cultures that have, for years, equated martial virtues with masculine ones.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On July 26, 1948, President Harry Truman signed Executive Order 9981, ending the practice of segregating the military services by race. That same year, the Army allowed women to join the services on an equal basis with men. Both of these steps preceded the larger societal changes that allowed fully equal treatment of all types of American citizens in military service. Just over 2 years ago, Congress repealed the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, allowing for gays and lesbians to openly take their place in the military. Our procedures and policies for successful gender integration have grown and evolved. The authors share five principles for leaders and commanders on the prevention of sexual harassment and assault, as well as associated "Tips" for implementation: Leaders identify and break chains of circumstance; Education is preferable to litigation; What's electronic is public; Don't ignore pornography; and, Unit climate is the commander's responsibility. These principles and their associated tips are not panaceas, and these recommendations are submitted for discussion and feedback.

Book Travel Contacts

Download or read book Travel Contacts written by Tom Shaffer and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have enjoyed travel throughout my adult life—to Europe and Australia, on sea cruises, and all around the United States. But I have taken trips of another sort as well, journeys to worlds beyond the earth in the company of extraterrestrial visitors. These experiences, of a sort usually identified as UFO abductions, have gone far beyond the typical missing time and examination. I have met with otherworldly beings, visited their places of origin, witnessed their civilizations, conversed with them, and even formed friendships. I do not know the ultimate nature of these encounters, or why I was chosen for them, but I can say that these experiences are as real to me as any trip to a foreign country, only more colorful and amazing. This book offers a sample of these otherworld encounters that occurred while I engaged in conventional travels around this planet.

The son of a World War II American pilot and a brave French resistance fighter, he grew up on both sides of the Atlantic -- though he prefers his sun-dappled villa on the Riviera to most other places. He takes pleasure in a fine wine...and a good gun. His French name is Pierre-Ange, and it suits him. In English, it means Stone Angel. Minding his own business at a favorite Nice creperie, Pete notices a teenage girl hurrying by -- with a desperate look on her face. Moments later, two cops arrive, a young actor named Bruno Ravic bursts from a nearby doorway, shots are fired, and Pete's most dangerous case to date begins! The girl is Odile Garnier, and her father (former Grand Prix champ Egon Mulhausser) hires Pete to find her. But what is the connection between Odile and Bruno, who is murdered just a few days later? And why do so many clues seem to lead to the Cannes Film Festival...and to a certain director? Pete Sawyer must go underground -- literally -- to save lives and solve this sensational mystery! Book Crossing Borders for the Truth

Download or read book Crossing Borders for the Truth written by William R. Charlesworth and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2008-08-15 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time is post-World War II; the place is the United States and sporadically several "at-risk" foreign countries. The story is about a young scientist, Richard, who believes that the origins of violence and warfare can be found in the early life experiences of individuals. To test this belief, Richard insists he must have firsthand research experience, which means traveling to foreign countries to observe local populations under stress and to study their children. In the process, he meets many intriguing people and inadvertently gets entangled in a potentially dangerous espionage operation. William Charlesworth has created a story embodying two problems: on epistemological, the other biobehavioral. The first is the problem of acquiring the truth of something firsthand as a valid substitute for learning though potentially unreliable intermediaries such as the popular media. The second problem is the question of whether the origins of violence lie in normal resource competition between individuals rather than in some form of innate human pathology. While conducting research to deal with these problems, Charlesworth's scientist encounters individuals whose survival behavior challenges the value of posing both problems.

Book Sharp Cut

    Book Details:
  • Author : Steven H. Gale
  • Publisher : University Press of Kentucky
  • Release : 2014-07-11
  • ISBN : 0813147956
  • Pages : 538 pages

Download or read book Sharp Cut written by Steven H. Gale and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2014-07-11 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best known as one of the most important playwrights of the twentieth century, Harold Pinter has also written many highly regarded screenplays, including Academy Award-nominated screenplays for The French Lieutenant's Woman and Betrayal, collaborations with English director Joseph Losey, and an unproduced script for the remake of Stanley Kubrick's 1962 adaptation of Lolita. In this definitive study of Pinter's screenplays, Steven H. Gale compares the scripts with their sources and the resulting films, analyzes their stages of development, and shows how Pinter creates unique works of art by extracting the essence from his source and rendering it in cinematic terms. Gale introduces each film, traces the events that led to the script's writing, examines critical reaction to the film, and provides an extensive bibliography, appendices, and an index.
