Download or read book The Leverage of National Board Candidacy written by Jana Hunzicker and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2006-12 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Leverage of National Board Candidacy is written for teachers considering the pursuit of National Board certification as well as for those currently engaged in the certification process. Capturing the experiences of Anne, Barbara, and Jamie, three teachers who sought NBPTS certification during the 2004-2005 school year, the book vividly describes their teaching practices, guiding philosophies, and thought processes before exploring each teacher s learning as it occurred during the certification year. Comparing the three teachers' certification experiences to the findings of recently conducted research, the book explores characteristics of readiness for National Board candidacy, common learning outcomes of the NBPTS certification process, and possible explanations for the varying nature and degree of learning that occurred for the three teachers through the experience. The final chapter presents the theory of leverage during National Board candidacy, an interactive dynamic that creates an uncomfortable yet positive pressure that makes the pursuit of National Board certification one of the most powerful professional development experiences currently available to teachers.

Download or read book High Stakes Education written by Pauline Lipman and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the implications of education accountability reforms, particularly in urban schools, in a political, economic, and cultural context of intensifying globalization and increasing social inequality and marginalization along lines of race and class? High StakesEducationprovides a cogent and critical examination of such questions, investigating concretely the political economy of neoliberal education reforms and the cultural politics of race. Using Chicago--a standard bearer for high stakes testing and centralized regulation of schools--as a case study, noted scholar Pauline Lipman argues there is a strategic relationship between these policies and processes of economic restructuring, racialized social control, and globalization.

Download or read book From Hell on Earth to Sanctity in Heavens written by Odd Haugan and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2017-12-30 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Someday in the future, when terrorism, pollution, and global warming (with horrendous weather changes) force earthbound man to the precipice of existence, mankind will have to find sanctity from destruction. The answer may lie in adapting to living in space, or on man-made islands in the middle of the ocean. After living shoulder to shoulder in cramped quarters for years on end, survivors soon discover that all forms of religion and politics must be banned; otherwise, mankind is doomed. Laid off from Boeing, Don Ringo keeps trying to establish a business, but fails miserably. Only when he teams up with a retired con man does he succeed, by buying a bankrupt space shuttle manufacturer. The space shuttle he calls Earth Hopper is a resounding success, reducing launch costs to a fraction of his competitors. He decides to open a “Spaceshop” in Earth orbit that provides supplies and repair services to NASA, the International Space Station, International Moon Base, and to others. Teaming up with Zili Pedog in Sitnalta, their fortunes multiply, and space is conquered. The future of mankind is at stake. The assault comes from the failures of religion, the politics of capitalism, socialism, communism, autocracy, dictatorship, and democracy in not addressing global recession, and man-made ecological disaster. The Armageddon of tomorrow may well come long before earthlings take the precautions needed to survive as an intelligent species.

Download or read book The Inner Game of Tennis written by W. Timothy Gallwey and published by Random House Trade Paperbacks. This book was released on 1997-05-27 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The timeless guide to achieving the state of “relaxed concentration” that’s not only the key to peak performance in tennis but the secret to success in life itself—now in a 50th anniversary edition with an updated epilogue, a foreword by Bill Gates, and an updated preface from NFL coach Pete Carroll “Groundbreaking . . . the best guide to getting out of your own way . . . Its profound advice applies to many other parts of life.”—Bill Gates, GatesNotes (“Five of My All-Time Favorite Books”) This phenomenally successful guide to mastering the game from the inside out has become a touchstone for hundreds of thousands of people. Billie Jean King has called the book her tennis bible; Al Gore has used it to focus his campaign staff; and Itzhak Perlman has recommended it to young violinists. Based on W. Timothy Gallwey’s profound realization that the key to success doesn’t lie in holding the racket just right, or positioning the feet perfectly, but rather in keeping the mind uncluttered, this transformative book gives you the tools to unlock the potential that you’ve possessed all along. “The Inner Game” is the one played within the mind of the player, against the hurdles of self-doubt, nervousness, and lapses in concentration. Gallwey shows us how to overcome these obstacles by trusting the intuitive wisdom of our bodies and achieving a state of “relaxed concentration.” With chapters devoted to trusting the self and changing habits, it is no surprise then, that Gallwey’s method has had an impact far beyond the confines of the tennis court. Whether you want to play music, write a novel, get ahead at work, or simply unwind after a stressful day, Gallwey shows you how to tap into your utmost potential. In this fiftieth-anniversary edition, the principles of the Inner Game shine through as more relevant today than ever before. No matter your goals, The Inner Game of Tennis gives you the definitive framework for long-term success.

Download or read book I Served written by by Don C. Hall and Annette R. Hall and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2001-01-31 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I SERVED was written differently from most other Vietnam memoirs. Instead of being a chronological recitation of my experiences growing up in the orphanage and then going to Vietnam and serving with Co. F, 51st Long Range Patrol (Airborne) Infantry, I made its focus be the characters in the story. That is its greatest strength and what makes it such a good read. Because I focused so closely on character, you really get to care about the person Don Hall because you know what makes him tick, what is important to him, and what drives him. You are also engaged by the other people you meet in the story because they are so clearly drawn. You don't have to be a military buff to enjoy the book. I SERVED is a factual story backed up by official U.S. Army records. Col. William C. Maus, the man who formed F/51st LRP, told me where to find that documentation. I also have copies of handouts we received when we went to Recondo School. Before he died, he told me how much he enjoyed reading the book. He praised me for having written such a great story about a unit he was proud to have commanded. He was a visionary who knew our unit was the vanguard for future U.S. Army military strategy and tactics. I remember his telling me at the time that F/51st LRP was making history. Being just a naïve 19-year-old staff sergeant, I didn't understand the significance of that statement. I do now. The current print and ebook versions of I SERVED are a second edition to the original 1994 hardbound edition, with a revised preface and afterword, a new War Stories section (with stories from other men with whom I served), and new photographs.
