Der erste Teil der Thesis befasst sich mit dem gegenwärtigen Kenntnisstand des betrieblichen Gesundheitsmanagements, der zweite Teil mit der durchgeführten Untersuchung (Umfrage KMU). Die Gesundheit von Mitarbeitern steht bei Maßnahmen des betrieblichen Gesundheitsmanagements im Vordergrund. Zwar gibt es in diesem Zusammenhang bereits zahlreiche gute Beispiele für erfolgreiche Projekte in allen Betriebsgrößen, insbesondere in kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen sind die Aktivitäten diesbezüglich jedoch deutlich zurückhaltender als in Großbetrieben. Dabei kann jedes Unternehmen mit einfachen Mitteln die Gesundheit seiner Beschäftigten fördern und für den Unternehmenserfolg nutzen. Zudem stieg von 2007 der Krankenstand sukzessive bis 2014 an und liegt seitdem zum dritten Mal hintereinander bei 5,3% bundesweit. Bei genauer Betrachtung des Krankenstandes sieht man zum einen, dass die psychischen Erkrankungen seit 2008 um 67,5% zugenommen haben und 2017 die durchschnittliche Falldauer mit 26,1 Tagen fast doppelt so hoch ist wie die durchschnittliche Falldauer (11,8 Tage). Zum anderen ist das Fehlzeitengeschehen im Jahr 2017 auf Muskel- und Skelett-Erkrankungen von 22,5% zurückzuführen. Ein Teil der Muskel- und Skelett-Erkrankungen ist auf die körperlichen Fehlbelastungen im Alltag beziehungsweise Arbeitsleben zurückzuführen. Die Kosten, die durch die Arbeitsunfähigkeitstage im Jahr 2017 entstanden sind, schätzt die Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin auf 76 Milliarden Euro bei volkswirtschaftlichen Produktionsausfällen beziehungsweise auf 136 Milliarden Euro beim Ausfall an Bruttowertschöpfung. Aufgrund der 668,6 Millionen Arbeitsunfähigkeitstage sind die Produktionsausfälle um eine, beziehungsweise die Bruttowertschöpfung um drei Milliarden Euro im Vergleich zum Vorjahr angestiegen. Diese Arbeit hat auch für den Bachelorstudiengang Fitnessökonomie thematisch erhebliche Bedeutung. Zum anderen ist betriebliches Gesundheitsmanagement ein wichtiges Thema für jeden Beschäftigten und Arbeitgeber. Man gewinnt den Eindruck, dass der gesellschaftliche Druck in der Arbeitswelt steigt und dadurch die Erwerbstätigen erkranken.

Organizations tend to adjust to dynamic environments by change initiatives promoting permanent reorganization. Such change initiatives often induce unintended effects, e.g. an erosion of trust, the violation of ‘psychological contracts’ in employees’ eyes or a decrease in organizational effectiveness. This book explores and analyzes whether such unintended effects can be anticipated or constructively dealt with by mindful change. The latter refers to the concept of organizational mindfulness that originally is linked to risk and safety research, e.g. in respect to ‘High Reliability Organizations’. In this book, organizational mindfulness is re-conceptualized addressing organizational change in the perspective of organizational sustainability. Somit bleiben sie im Bezug auf für sie maßgeschneiderte Programme zur betrieblichen Gesundheitsförderung oft außen vor. Dabei sind diese gerade in Unternehmen mit wenigen Mitarbeitern von essentieller Bedeutung, denn wenn hier ein Mitarbeiter durch Krankheit ausfällt, hat dies weitreichende Konsequenzen und anders als in großen Unternehmen kann so etwas in einem kleinen Betrieb nur schwer abgefedert werden. Dabei ist es um so schwerer, je weniger Mitarbeiter und Angestellte der Betrieb hat. So ist zum Beispiel in einem Kleinstbetrieb mit einem Mitarbeiter die Gesundheit des einen Mitarbeiters mitunter so wichtig wie die Gesundheit des Unternehmers selbst.
