Download or read book Of Hoarding and Housekeeping written by Sasha Newell and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2023-10-13 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hoarding has largely been approached from a psychological and universal perspective, and decluttering from an aesthetic and ecological one, while little work has been done to think about the cultural and global economic aspects of these phenomena. Of Hoarding and Housekeeping provides an anthropological, global, and comparative angle to the understanding of hoarding and decluttering using cases from a variety of countries including US, Japan, India, Cameroon, and Argentina. Focusing on the house, with careful attention to material flows in and out, this book examines practices of accumulation, storage, decluttering, and waste as practices of kinship and the objects themselves as material kin.

Download or read book Meeting Development Goals in Small Urban Centres written by Un-Habitat and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-04 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Half of the world's people live in urban areas, and roughly a third of these live in desperate poverty without access to basic amenities. Taking on the themes of UN-HABITAT's Water and Sanitation in the World's Cities (2003), this new volume focuses on the deficiencies in the provision of water and sanitation where most of the populations of the developing world live: in towns and small cities. Drawing on extensive unpublished research and 15 commissioned papers from experts involved in designing and implementing innovative projects around the world, this is the first major study of the problems facing the smaller urban centres that are recognized to be of enormous importance by governments, international agencies, NGOs and service providers. Tackling these problems is a crucial part of development and of good governance, and critical to meeting the Millennium Development Goals. The volume will be essential reading for all professionals and researchers in the relevant fields and a valuable resource for teachers and students of urban development.

It also discusses various aspects related to resource-oriented agro-sanitation system, including resource-recovery technologies for feces, urine and grey water, business models for installation, and agricultural issues related to uses of urine and compost. Download or read book Development and Cities written by David G. Westendorff and published by Oxfam. This book was released on 2002 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: * Explores the political, social, economic, and environmental viability of new or alternative approaches to urban development in the South * Considers how these approaches can increase access to decision-making forums, to adequate services, and to health and prosperity for all. * Case studies include cities in Argentina, Cuba, India, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe Growing numbers of the world’s poorest people live in cities, in poor-quality housing on dangerous sites, lacking even basic services. In many countries, budgetary constraints, structural adjustment processes, increasing wealth inequalities, and lack of popular participation in governance are worsening the position of the urban poor. Approaches to sustainable development in cities of the South have focused too exclusively on narrow technical aspects of environmental protection, with no benefit to most residents in cities and peri-urban areas. Development and Cities focuses on the political, social, and economic viability of new or alternative approaches to urban management in the South that aim to increase access to adequate levels of basic services and healthy living and working conditions for all.
Download or read book R voltes et oppositions dans un r gime semi autoritaire written by Mathieu Hilgers and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2010 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Entrepreneurs Et Entreprises en Qu te de Normes written by Maud Saint-Lary and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2009 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
