Then it presents the different methods of random number generation and their tests. Besides, the text dwells on different probability distributions and their random variates, which are used in the simulation model, and describes various simulation languages such as GPSS, Simula I, SIMSCRIPT, CSL, GASP, OPS-3, DYNAMO, SIMAN and SLAM II. Further, it gives a comprehensive coverage of different queueing systems with illustrative examples as well as the logics of simulation model for both single-server and parallel-server queueing systems. The concluding chapters deal extensively with GPSS language, Arena simulation software and ProModel simulation software. Key Features • Follows a step-by-step approach to derive the test results. • Gives a large number of solved examples and well-designed chapter-end questions. • Includes several real-life Case Studies to illustrate the concepts discussed.

Book Management Science Operations Research and Project Management

Download or read book Management Science Operations Research and Project Management written by José Ramón San Cristóbal Mateo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to its societal and economic relevance, Project Management (PM) has become an important discipline and a concept critical to modern organizations, public and private. PM as an academic discipline is discussed both in Management Science and in Operations Research. Management Science tends to focus on quantitative tools and the soft skills necessary to manage projects successfully. Operations Research gives the essential scientific contribution to the success of project management through the development of models and algorithms. In Management Science, Operations Research and Project Management, José Ramón San Cristóbal Mateo fills the gap between scientific research and the practical application of that research. Project managers need formal training in decision-making but sometimes, they do not have an in-depth knowledge of Operations Research or they lack the necessary theoretical background. This book, with its focus on the quantitative models of Operations Research and Management Science applied to Project Management, provides project managers with the tools and methods necessary to manage projects successfully. Project managers operate in a complex global environment, in which numerous factors need to be considered, such as minimizing total project costs, meeting contracted dates, and ensuring that activities achieve certain quality levels. The focus here on the application of quantitative models of Operations Research and Management Science applied to Project Management provides them with the tools and methods necessary to make sound decisions.

Book Current Issues in Computer Simulation

Download or read book Current Issues in Computer Simulation written by Nabil R. Adam and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current Issues in Computer Simulation is a collection of papers dealing with computer simulation languages, statistical aspects of simulation, linkage with optimization and analytical models, as well as theory and application of simulation methodology. Some papers explain the General Purpose Simulation System (GPSS), a programming package incorporating a language to simulate discrete systems; and the SIMSCRIPT, a general-purpose simulation language using English commands, for example, FORTRAN. Another simulation language is the General Activity Simulation Program (GASP), providing for an organizational structure to build models to simulate the dynamic performance of systems on a digital computer. Other papers discuss simulation models of real systems, including corporate simulation models, multistage consumer choice process, determination of maximum occupancy for hospital facilities, and the juvenile court system. Many computer simulations are statistical sampling experiments performed on a model of the system under investigation. Other papers discuss some of the variables involved in the statistical design and analysis of simulation experiments such as variance reduction techniques, generation of random variates, and experimental layout. For example, one application simulates inventory systems when many items are stocked in various locations. The collection is suitable for programmers, computer engineers, businessmen, hospital administrators, schools officials, and depositories of huge volumes of information or data.
