Gersham married Sarah Byerly ca. 1823. She died ca. 1836 and Gersham married Katharine Lopp Wagner 15 June 1837. Gersham lived in North Carolina and became the father of ten known children. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Missouri, Pennsylvania and elsewhere.

Birth, death, marriage dates, parents, spouses, children; letters, journals, news articles: all are set forth in each entry, edited only for overall length. Photographs are included for many of the men. Also included is an overview of Davidson County's involvement in the conflict, and a bibliography.
