Book Planting Site Shade Local Seed Source

Download or read book Planting Site Shade Local Seed Source written by Raymond E. Graber and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2The purpose of our study was to examine some of the factors that influence seedling emergence and seedling survival of direct-seeded white pine (Pinus strobus L.). Our major concern was the response of white pine to a particular set of growing conditions on the seedling emergence pattern, on seedling survival, and on the causes of seedling mortality. S3.

Book Adaptation of Eastern White Pine Provenances to Planting Sites

Download or read book Adaptation of Eastern White Pine Provenances to Planting Sites written by Maurice E. Demeritt and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eastern white pine provenances from the extreme limits of its natural range are changing from above- and below-average stability to average stability for height growth with increasing age. The regression method is useful for evaluating the stability of provenance to planting sites. The same general conclusions are reached for the performance of provenances at different planting sites from the regression method as from the relative difference method.

Book The Assessment and Modeling of Regeneration Dynamics for Eastern White Pine Pinus Strobus L

Download or read book The Assessment and Modeling of Regeneration Dynamics for Eastern White Pine Pinus Strobus L written by Jerome Allan Krueger and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study represents an analysis of regeneration processes for eastern white pine (Pinus strohus L.). The objective is to develop an integrated approach to evaluate the influence of factors that, alone and in combination, determine regeneration outcomes. This study is composed of three sections. The first chapter is a literature review of white pine regeneration dynamics. The purpose is to present a process for understanding the regeneration process of a single species and present a conceptual approach to integrated evaluation of influential variables. Six interrelated ecological factors (seed tree density, competition, disturbance, seedbed conditions, soils, and damage agents) were identified and their impact on the regeneration process is evaluated. A conceptual model of the integration approach and two examples of how this approach can be utilized in assessing regeneration operations are presented.

Book Effect of Seed Mass on Early Seedling Growth of Five Eastern White Pine Pinus Strobus L Families Under Contrasting Light Environments

Download or read book Effect of Seed Mass on Early Seedling Growth of Five Eastern White Pine Pinus Strobus L Families Under Contrasting Light Environments written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wide variation in initial spatial patterns of natural regeneration of eastern white pine between managed & undisturbed white pine forests of the Great Lakes region has been attributed to differences in understory light levels and the frequency of substrates suitable for germination & seedling establishment. This paper describes a greenhouse study of the interaction of seed mass & light on early white pine which was undertaken to explore the potential influence of seed mass on these observed patterns. Seedlings of five families differing in mean seed mass were grown for 8 & 14 weeks under moderate & low light conditions representing managed & undisturbed pine stands respectively. The results suggest whether differential recruitment of white pine in managed & undisturbed stands is related to variation in seed mass.
