On the one hand, this exclusion exists by using right-wing populist rhetoric in political discourse (first dimension). On the other, there are legislative provisions in the German asylum system which impede an adequate social inclusion of many asylum seekers with a lasting effect (second dimension). These exclusion mechanisms are of particular concern to "illegalized" migrants. In this context, three hypotheses will be examined. The first hypothesis is: "Asylum seekers in Germany are systematically marginalized and stigmatized in political discourse by the right-wing populist rhetoric by political players such as Pegida, AfD, and CSU." The second hypothesis is: "Because of the different types of residence within the German asylum system and the related legal consequences, illegalized and "tolerated" asylum seekers are socially marginalized." The third hypothesis is: "An inclusive asylum policy can help overcome the social marginalization and stigmatization of illegalized and "tolerated" refugees."

Book excerpt: The 2015 European Migrant Crisis emerged when an influx of refugees settled in Europe from 2015-2019. The asylum seekers fled their homelands to evade a myriad of crises such as violence and war, corruption and abuse, and poor socioeconomic conditions. Of the European states, Germany welcomed the largest number of migrants. This was in part due to Germany’s existing immigration policies in a post-Second World War environment, but also due to Germany’s resounding economic strength. Germany has significantly low unemployment rates and the highest gross domestic product (GDP) in Europe. As such, Germany’s position is one of uncontested significance within the European Union (EU); however, there is controversy on whether the European Union’s polices, and distribution of immigrants, is fair and reasonable and if the influx of migrants are beneficial or detrimental to German society as a result. This study seeks to use quantifiable economic data to outline the causal effects of the Migrant Crisis on Germany. This study concludes that the 2015 Migrant Crisis had a low but positive impact to the German economy and a mid to high-level impact on German political society in the short-term duration of the Crisis (2015-2019). A full and comprehensive determination of the long-term impacts requires a future study, but the results of this research indicate the effects of the Migrant Crisis have normalized resulting in no long-term impacts. Using statistical analysis of data and an ethnological and phenomenological research design to understand the impacts to Germany will aid policymakers navigating the complexities of, and policy recommendations for, the Crisis from both a data driven and local perspective. This will further aid in forecasting the economic strength, immigration policies, and public opinion of Germany and the European Union.

Said to suffer from a deeply rooted paraphilia, he is often considered as outside the moral limits of the human, profoundly resistant to change. Despite these assessments, in much of the West an increasing focus on rehabilitation through therapy provides hope that psychological transformation is possible. Examining the experiences of child sex offenders undergoing therapy in Germany—where such treatments are both a legal right and duty—John Borneman, in Cruel Attachments, offers a fine-grained account of rehabilitation for this reviled criminal type. Carefully exploring different cases of the attempt to rehabilitate child sex offenders, Borneman details a secular ritual process aimed not only at preventing future acts of molestation but also at fundamentally transforming the offender, who is ultimately charged with creating an almost entirely new self. Acknowledging the powerful repulsion felt by a public that is often extremely skeptical about the success of rehabilitation, he challenges readers to confront the contemporary contexts and conundrums that lie at the heart of regulating intimacy between children and adults.

After defining the boundaries, the second chapter prepares possible hypotheses on the founding motivation supported by professional literature. These motivators are further discussed in the third section with reference to personal expertise of engineering students, politicians, guiders and founders. This part is dedicated to analyze the actual importance of each motivator for engineers and to develop first recommendations. The conclusion summarizes the findings and outlines a short ‘action-plan’ for political decision-makers to enhance the founding motivation of German engineers. At last, a personal reflection reviews the thesis and sets the research question into a broader context. Apart from that, the thesis concentrates on sociopolitical motivators of founding and mainly excludes financial aspects, since they are not of major significance for the topic and have been sufficiently discussed in other literature.
