Book Public Theology Perspectives on Religion and Education

Download or read book Public Theology Perspectives on Religion and Education written by Manfred L. Pirner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-23 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to draw out the relationship between publicly-oriented Christianity and education, this book demonstrates that education is an important method and prerequisite of public theology, as well as an urgent object of public theology research’s attention. Featuring work from diverse academic disciplines—including religion education, theology, philosophy, and religious studies—this edited collection also contends with the educational challenges that come with the decline of religion on the one hand and its transformation and regained public relevance on the other. Taken together, the contributions to this volume provide a comprehensive argument for why education deserves systematic attention in the context of public theology discourse, and vice versa.

Book Tacit Dimensions of Pedagogy

Download or read book Tacit Dimensions of Pedagogy written by Bosse Bergstedt and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2012 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a controversy regarding the relationship between theory and praxis in the field of pedagogy with no final decision on how to model it. From our perspective, theories concerning educational science are especially promising if they face the challenges associated with diverse educational practices and their special circumstances. As the central task we consider the development of a notion of the explicit as well as of the tacit side of practices and of the necessity to reflect these two. Looking at educational practices is not reduced to the explicit decisions concerning aims, subjects, schedules, social settings, etc., in the diverse pedagogical fields. It also entails the examination of the inexplicable knowledge on which social relations are based. Aesthetical dimensions of education like sensual perceptions and time-space-object relations then are important frames of the practical orientation. Furthermore, corporal dispositions and influences of non-formal learning on formal learning situations are explored. The incidental scenery formed by these tacit factors might open and broaden, or it might also close and restrict the significant ways of teaching and learning; it might empower learners and teachers in understanding, transcending, and creating the world, or constrain them in doing this.

Book Religious Schools in Europe

Download or read book Religious Schools in Europe written by Marcel Maussen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Convention on Human Rights guarantees freedom of education, including the opportunities to create and operate faith-based schools. However, as European societies become more religiously diverse and ‘less religious’ at the same time, the role of faith-based schools is increasingly being contested. Serious tensions have emerged between those who ardently support religious schools in their various forms, and those who oppose them. Given that faith-based schools enjoy basic constitutional guarantees in Europe, the controversy around them often surrounds issues of public financing, degrees of organisational and pedagogical autonomy, and educational practices and management. This volume is about the controversies surrounding religious schools in a number of Western European countries. The introductory chapter briefly analyses the structural pressures that affect the position of religious schools, outlining the relevant institutional arrangements in countries such as Denmark, Germany, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Scotland. The following chapters provide a detailed analysis of the discussions and controversies surrounding faith-based schools in each country. Finally, the two concluding chapters aim to provide a bigger, comparative picture with regard to these debates about religious education in liberal democratic states and culturally pluralist societies. This book was originally published as a special issue of Comparative Education.

Book Gerechtigkeit im Bildungssystem

Download or read book Gerechtigkeit im Bildungssystem written by and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2020-01-14 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Racism in Schools written by Matthias Böhmer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Racism, i.e. discrimination against people on the basis of their supposed ethnic origin, is omnipresent in schools. Apart from students, trainees and teachers, all actors in the school context are affected by this topic. Why is this so? How can racist discrimination be explained? What effects does this behavior have on those affected? And how can schools counteract it? These are all questions that arise and which this book aims to answer with the intention of enabling all those acting in the school context to critically examine their own knowledge bases relevant to racism. This book contributes to the development of school as a racism-sensitive space in which all actors behave in a racism-sensitive manner. Therefore, in addition to an overview of the history of racism, approaches to explaining racist behavior and the effects of racist discrimination, prevention and intervention approaches for a practice critical of racism in schools are presented.

Book Immigrants and Refugees at German Universities

Download or read book Immigrants and Refugees at German Universities written by Lisa Unangst and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-22 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes a critical and historical perspective in parsing the current state of play for refugee and immigrant students in Germany, addressing federal, state, and institutional innovations as well as gaps in service. Drawing from de/post/anticolonial theory, it considers the levels of support for diverse groups including migrants, refugees, and racialized Germans, investigating why a comparatively well-resourced higher education system has, to date, selectively invested in the support of some marginalized groups. It calls for the reconsideration of policy and programmatic support, drawing from emerging best practice across states and higher education institutions (HEIs). Using historical analysis, federal and state level policy documents, institutional equal opportunity plans and student-facing websites, reporting, and first-person-accounts of marginalized students both prospective and enrolled, this critically oriented work interrogates how and why the world’s fourth largest economy – and its primarily public higher education system – have failed to engage systemic change with an eye towards addressing mechanisms of exclusion including racialization and xenophobia. It concludes with a consideration of possible policy interventions supporting these minoritized student groups who are essential not only to German learning and economy, but also to the rebuilding of conflict states. This volume will appeal to researchers, scholars, and practitioners working across comparative and international higher education, crisis education, and education in emergencies, as well as diversity specialists.
