Download or read book Era of Steam Engines written by David Hunt and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010-04-07 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steam supreme. There are lots of railwaymen, who have departed from this world, and many are still alive, however very few have written about their experiences as employees while working for the Western Australian Government Railways. These incidents laughable or sad would be lost forever. The age of steam running supreme has vanished but the memories live on in the minds of men and women who worked in this steam-era. This book details what it was like to be one of those people; working diligently in this era, making many permanent friends for life and enjoying working steam and diesel locomotives.
Download or read book Peter s Last Long Voyage written by Julie Jamieson and published by DoctorZed Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-01 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: None of us knows what the future holds, but Peter March certainly didn't know this was to be his last long voyage. A "man of the sea" since early childhood, Peter once said he would spend his last days on his beloved boat on the sometimes wild, but ever wonderful ocean. Fate, though, has its own control and now as Peter slowly sinks into the murky waters of Alzheimer's disease perhaps some of my questions about this last voyage on Obsidienne have been answered. I wonder now whether we would have savoured the trip more if we had known it was to be for both of us the last long sailing adventure on our dear Obsidienne? - Julie Jamieson
Download or read book Story telling written by Bronwen Ann Levy and published by Univ. of Queensland Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Story/telling is an eclectic and fascinating collection of stories and stories about stories. With passion and verve, some of Australia's finest writers range through vast territory exploring new directions in film and media, enigmas and creativity, histories of mothering, narratives of indigenous and migrant experience, folk, country and multicultural music traditions, and dilemmas of interpretation. These writers appreciate the power of stories, for good and ill. They interrogate narratives of Australia's past and present and call for new stories for changing times. We hear voices, raised one moment, subdued the next, as if we were sitting in the Forum tent at the Woodford Festival, knowing that here and just beyond, in paint, dance, music and words, stories are happening in delicious abundance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beaches of the Western Australian Coast covers the Western Australian coast between Eucla and Roebuck Bay, and includes Rottnest Island. It begins with three chapters that provide a background to the physical nature and evolution of the Western Australian coast and its 2,051 mainland beach systems. Chapter one covers the geological evolution of the coast and the role climate, wave, tides and wind in shaping the present coast and beaches. Chapter two presents in more detail the 16 types of beach systems that occur along the Western Australian coast, and chapter three discusses the types of beach hazards along the coast and the role of Surf Lifesaving Western Australia in mitigating these hazards. Chapter four presents a description of each of the 2,051 mainland beaches, as well as 63 beaches on Rottnest Island. The description of each beach includes its name, location, physical characteristics, access and facilities, with specific comments on its surf zone character and physical hazards, and its suitability for swimming, surfing and fishing. Based on the physical hazards, all beaches are rated in terms of public safety and scaled from 1 (least hazardous) to 10 (most hazardous).
