Book Geotechnical Aspects of Pavement Engineering

Download or read book Geotechnical Aspects of Pavement Engineering written by Nishantha Bandara and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2018-02-25 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Familiarity with geotechnical aspects of pavement engineering is essential for the practicing pavement engineer. When designing pavements, accurate characterization of the existing subgrade condition becomes a crucial task. In the past, traditional geotechnical exploration and testing methods have been used to characterize existing subgrade conditions. However, with the introduction of the Mechanistic-Empirical (ME) pavement design, there is a need for improved and more appropriate methods of subgrade characterization, for prediction of future pavement conditions with better accuracy. Hence, this handbook will present a useful tool for practicing pavement engineers.

Book Design and Construction of Pavements and Rail Tracks

Download or read book Design and Construction of Pavements and Rail Tracks written by Antonio Gomes Correia and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-05-24 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design and Construction of Pavements and Rail Tracks - Geotechnical Aspects and Processed Materials is a compilation of selected contributions produced between 2002 and 2005 by the International Committee TC3 - Geotechnics of Pavements of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), a committee dedicated to gathering current knowledge of geotechnical aspects relating to pavements and rail tracks. The volume presents advanced procedures for laboratory and field materials characterization, including processed materials (non-conventional road construction materials), novel tests for field stiffness evaluation, a pre-standard for roller integrated continuous compaction control and new theories for evaluation of the long term performance of materials, including environmental aspects. These contributions represent the latest developments relating to the design, construction and long term performance of pavements, rail tracks and earth structures, with emphasis on the geotechnical and environmental background.

Book Measuring in Situ Mechanical Properties of Pavement Subgrade Soils

Download or read book Measuring in Situ Mechanical Properties of Pavement Subgrade Soils written by David E. Newcomb and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1999 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to pavement and geotechnical design and research engineers, geologists and engineering geologists, and related laboratory personnel. It describes the current practice for measuring in situ mechanical properties of pavement subgrade soils. The tests conducted to measure the mechanical properties of soil strength and stiffness are the primary topics, and these are discussed in the context of design procedures, factors affecting mechanical properties, and the variability of measurements. Information for the synthesis was collected by surveying U.S., Canadian, and selected European transportation agencies and by conducting a literature search. This TRB report provides information on existing and emerging technologies for static and dynamic, and destructive and nondestructive testing for measuring in situ mechanical properties of pavement subgrade soils. Correlations between in situ and laboratory tests are presented. The effects of existing layers on the measurement of subgrade properties, and soil spatial and seasonal variability are discussed. Most importantly, the use of soil properties in pavement design and evaluation are explained. New applications or improvements to existing test methods to support the use of mechanistic/stochastic-based pavement design procedures are also explained.
