Declares, Mr. John Adams will probably have the plurality of views for vice President- from his principles of government as well his professions of regard to the character universally decided on for the President- he will probably be one of the best characters for the office of vice president. Notes that his three youngest children have had the measles. In a post script, reports that Major Haskell, who is on his way to Europe, hopes to obtain a certificate of service from Washington.

Says he wrote twice to Knox, but has not received a response. Reports that Cottineau writes Zollickoffer from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, whenever he can, for this information. Hopes Knox can find some information by which means Capt. Cottineau would be more easier than he appears. Mentions that Cottineau reported, in his letter of 25 May 1791, that the General of Hispaniola wrote to D'Estaing on the subject but received no answer. Because of this, Cottineau apparently believes that Your Excellency Himself may have received the necessary certificate which was requested, and that not receiving the Diploma, he think it my neglect.

Finally, thanks the Count for submitting Ideas on the Association of the Cincinnati which the Count wrote in 1784 (see GLC02437.03027). Is not sure the Society will decide to adopt any of the recommendations in the memorial, but reports that the General Society will take the issue up in their next meeting.

Mentions that Our friend Genl Washington is looked up to as the only man for President - and it is said Mr. John Adams will probably be vice president. Hopes he can report on a government happily in operation without any commotion in his next letter. Reports that Catherine Greene has gone to Georgia. States he was on a several month visit to his proposed estate in Maine.
