Book Geopressured geothermal Well Report Volume I Drilling and Completion

Download or read book Geopressured geothermal Well Report Volume I Drilling and Completion written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gladys McCall site activities are covered through the completion of the test well and salt water disposal well. The test well was drilled to a total depth of 16,510 feet, then plugged back to 15,831 feet. Three 4'' diameter diamond cores were taken for analysis. An existing well on site, the Getty-Butts Gladys McCall No. 1, was reentered and completed to a depth of 3514 feet as a salt water disposal well. The geologic interpretation of the Gladys McCall site indicated target sands for testing at 15,080 feet through 15, 831 feet. Reservoir fluid temperature at this depth is estimated to be approximately 313/sup 0/F and pressure is estimated to be +-12,800 psi. The preliminary reservoir volume estimate is 3.6 billion barrels of brine. The design wells program includes environmental monitoring of the Gladys McCall site by Louisiana State University. Field stations are set up to monitor surface and ground water quality, subsidence, land loss and shoreline erosion, and seismicity. As of December 31, 1981 the study shows no significant impact on the environment by site operations.

Book Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured geothermal Wells

Download or read book Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured geothermal Wells written by R. J. Dobson and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This well was approved for reentry and test operations after consideration of a number of reentry prospects in Cameron Parish. This was a marsh location that required 2.3 miles of board road and replacement of two bridges. Road work was commenced on June 19, 1978, and site preparation was completed on October 25. The drilling rig moved on location on November 2. This rig was released on December 16. Reentry operations were completely unsuccessful because of failure to effect a tieback of the 7'' casing. The plugging and abandonment records filed with the Louisiana Department of Conservtion indicated that the top of the 7'' casing was at or near the base of the 10-3/4'' casing when the well was plugged. These records did not specify that the 7'' casing had been dynamited one or more times during the recovery operation. Numerous attempts were made to locate and condition the 7'' casing for tying back to the surface. All these were unsuccessful. The top of the 7'' casing was never clearly located, or if located was subsequently lost, and therefore it was not possible to cut and recover the damaged section in order to effect a tieback. The total cost of the attempted reentry was approximately $1,925,000. Of this amount, some $444,000 was spent on road and site preparation and disposal well. This expenditure can be salvaged in the event a decision is made to redrill the well.

This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reservoir conditions that led to the choice of this well as the fifth well of opportunity are described as well as the attempts to complete the well for high-volume brine production. Individual opinions concerning underlying and conributing causes for the liner failure which aborted the completion attempt are included. (MHR).

Download or read book Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured Geothermal Wells Final Report Alice C Plantation No 2 Well St Mary Parish Louisiana Volume 1 Narrative Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gruy Federal, Inc. (Gruy) operates under Contract No. EG-77-C-08-1528 to the Department of Energy, Division of Geothermal Energy, to evaluate potential alternate energy sources occurring within geopressured-geothermal (Geo) aquifers in Miocene, Oligocene, Tuscaloosa, Wilcox, and Frio formations along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast. The project is entitled ''Investigation and Evaluation of Geopressured-Geothermal Wells''. The original period of performance was from September 26, 1977, through September 30, 1978; the contract was later extended through September 30, 1979. The first well on which testing was attempted under this contract was the Alice C. Plantation No. 2 Well, located in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. Originally drilled by the Sun Oil Company to a total depth of 19,000 feet, this well was abandoned as a dry hole in January 1964. Gruy's reentry attempt ended with plugging and abandonment after a saltwater flow on September 17, 1978. This report is a comprehensive document detailing all events and costs relating to the Alice C. plantation well, from its initial selection as a reentry well through the plugging and abandonment operations.

Book Testing Geopressured Geothermal Reservoirs in Existing Wells Final Report P R Girouard Well No 1 Lafayette Parish Louisiana Volume I Completion and Testing

Download or read book Testing Geopressured Geothermal Reservoirs in Existing Wells Final Report P R Girouard Well No 1 Lafayette Parish Louisiana Volume I Completion and Testing written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The P.R. Girouard No. 1 Well, located approximately 10 miles southeast of Lafayette, Louisiana, was the fourth successful test of a geopressured-geothermal aquifer under the Wells of Opportunity program. The well was tested through 3-1/2 inch tubing set on a packer at 14,570 feet without major problems. The geological section tested was the Oligocene Marginulina Texana No. 1 sand of upper Frio age. The interval tested was from 14,744 to 14,819 feet. Produced water was piped down a disposal well perforated from 2870 to 3000 feet in a Miocene saltwater sand. Four flow tests were conducted for sustained production rates of approximately 4000 BWPD to approximately 15,000 BWPD. The highest achieved, during a fifth short test, was 18,460 BWPD. The test equipment was capable of handling higher rates. The gas-to-water ratio was relatively uniform at approximately 40 SCF/bbl. The heating value of the gas is 970 Btu/SCF. The reservoir tests show that is is doubtful that this well would sustain production rates over 10,000 BWPD for any lengthy period from the sand zone in which it was completed. This limited flow capacity is due to the well's poor location in the reservoir and is not a result of any production deficiencies of the Marginulina Texana sand.
