Book Geophysical Logging of Water Wells in Northeastern Illinois Classic Reprint

Download or read book Geophysical Logging of Water Wells in Northeastern Illinois Classic Reprint written by Carl A. Bays and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-05 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Geophysical Logging of Water Wells in Northeastern Illinois In addition to their practical value to the men who are responsible for the drilling, maintenance, and operation of water wells, and consequently to the many individuals and industries depend ent upon the water from these wells, geophysical logs furnish a wealth of data that are of scientific value today and that may prove to be of practical value tomorrow. This discussion, however, is limited to the results that repay the cost of geophysical surveys in dollars and cents to the well owner and his engineer or to the drilling contractor. Book Groundwater Possibilities in Northeastern Illinois

Download or read book Groundwater Possibilities in Northeastern Illinois written by Robert Edward Bergstrom and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-28 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Groundwater Possibilities in Northeastern Illinois: A Preliminary Geologic Report Best possibilities for the occurrence of water-bearing sand and gravel within the glacial drift. Groundwater for domestic and farm supply generally is obtainable in this area from small-diameter drilled wells completed in sand and gravel. The wells range in depth from 35 to over 200 feet, depending upon depth of water-yielding formation. Possibilities for municipal or industrial wells completed above bedrock are good to excellent, although some test drilling probably is necessary to locate the be st formation and site for the construction of a high-capacity well. Fair to good possibilities for the occurrence of water bearing sand and gravel within the glacial drift. Ground water for domestic and farm supply is obtainable locally in this area from small-diameter drilled wells in sand and gravel. The wells range in depth from 35 to about 100 feet. Water-yielding sand and gravel probably is absent at many locations, so wells generally are drilled through the glacial drift into bedrock. Possibilities for municipal or industrial wells are poor to fair. Extensive test drilling is likely to be necessary to locate deposits suitable for the construction of high-capacity wells in sand and gravel. Most high-capacity wells penetrate a bedrock aquifer. Poorest possibilities for the occurrence of water-bearing sand and gravel within the glacial drift. Most wells obtain groundwater from bedrock below the glacial drift. Depth to bedrock generally is less than 50 feet. Shallow sands along the rivers are suitable locally for domestic and farm wells, but wide Spread thick sand and gravel beds generally are ab sent. Download or read book Groundwater written by R. Allan Freeze and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 1979 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors preceive a trend in the study and practice of groundwater hydrology. They see a science that is emerging from its geological roots and its early hydraulic applications into a full-fledged environmental science. They see a science that is becoming more interdisciplinary in nature and of greater importance in the affairs of man. This book is their response, and they have provided a text that is suited to the study of groundwater during this period of emergence.

Book Well Logging for Earth Scientists

Download or read book Well Logging for Earth Scientists written by Darwin V. Ellis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-06-18 with total page 697 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this book demystified the process of well log analysis for students, researchers and practitioners. In the two decades since, the industry has changed enormously: technical staffs are smaller, and hydrocarbons are harder to locate, quantify, and produce. New drilling techniques have engendered new measurement devices incorporated into the drilling string. Corporate restructuring and the "graying" of the workforce have caused a scarcity in technical competence involved in the search and exploitation of petroleum. The updated 2nd Edition reviews logging measurement technology developed in the last twenty years, and expands the petrophysical applications of the measurements.

Book Statistical Methods in Water Resources

Download or read book Statistical Methods in Water Resources written by D.R. Helsel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1993-03-03 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data on water quality and other environmental issues are being collected at an ever-increasing rate. In the past, however, the techniques used by scientists to interpret this data have not progressed as quickly. This is a book of modern statistical methods for analysis of practical problems in water quality and water resources. The last fifteen years have seen major advances in the fields of exploratory data analysis (EDA) and robust statistical methods. The 'real-life' characteristics of environmental data tend to drive analysis towards the use of these methods. These advances are presented in a practical and relevant format. Alternate methods are compared, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each as applied to environmental data. Techniques for trend analysis and dealing with water below the detection limit are topics covered, which are of great interest to consultants in water-quality and hydrology, scientists in state, provincial and federal water resources, and geological survey agencies. The practising water resources scientist will find the worked examples using actual field data from case studies of environmental problems, of real value. Exercises at the end of each chapter enable the mechanics of the methodological process to be fully understood, with data sets included on diskette for easy use. The result is a book that is both up-to-date and immediately relevant to ongoing work in the environmental and water sciences.
