Book Eureka Math A Story of Functions Geometry Module 1

Download or read book Eureka Math A Story of Functions Geometry Module 1 written by Great Minds and published by Jossey-Bass. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Common Core Mathematics is the most comprehensive Common Core State Standards-based mathematics curriculum available today. The modules are sequenced and paced to support the teaching of mathematics as an unfolding story that follows the logic of mathematics itself. They embody the instructional “shifts” and the standards for mathematical practice that are fundamental to the CCSS. Each module contains a sequence of lessons that combine conceptual understanding, fluency, and application to meet the demands of each topic in the module. Formative assessments are included to support data-driven instruction. The modules are written by teams of master teachers and mathematicians. In Common Core Mathematics, Geometry students explore more complex geometric situations and deepen their explanations of geometric relationships, moving towards formal mathematical arguments. Important differences exist between this Geometry course and the historical approach taken in Geometry classes. For example, transformations are emphasized early in this course. Close attention should be paid to the introductory content for the Geometry conceptual category found in the high school CCSS. The Mathematical Practice Standards apply throughout each course and, together with the content standards, prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations. Common Core Learning Standards Addressed in Geometry, Module 1: G-CO.1, G-CO.2, G-CO.3, G-CO.4, G-CO.5, G-CO.6, G-CO.7, G-CO.8, G-CO.9, G-CO.10, G-CO.11, G-CO.12, G-CO.13 SEQUENCE OF GEOMETRY MODULES Module 1: Congruence, Proof, and Constructions Module 2: Similarity, Proof, and Trigonometry Module 3: Extending to Three Dimensions Module 4: Connecting Algebra and Geometry through Coordinates Module 5: Circles With and Without Coordinates Common Core (www.commoncore.org) is a non-profit organization formed in 2007 to advocate for a content-rich liberal arts education in America’s K-12 schools. To improve education in America, Common Core creates curriculum materials and also promotes programs, policies, and initiatives at the local, state, and federal levels that provide students with challenging, rigorous instruction in the full range of liberal arts and sciences. Common Core is not affiliated with the Common Core State Standards Initiative. Book Algebra and Geometry

  • Author : Hongxi Wu
  • Publisher : American Mathematical Soc.
  • Release : 2020-09-08

Download or read book Algebra and Geometry written by Hongxi Wu and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-09-08 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second of three volumes that, together, give an exposition of the mathematics of grades 9–12 that is simultaneously mathematically correct and grade-level appropriate. The volumes are consistent with CCSSM (Common Core State Standards for Mathematics) and aim at presenting the mathematics of K–12 as a totally transparent subject. The first part of this volume is devoted to the study of standard algebra topics: quadratic functions, graphs of equations of degree 2 in two variables, polynomials, exponentials and logarithms, complex numbers and the fundamental theorem of algebra, and the binomial theorem. Having translations and the concept of similarity at our disposal enables us to clarify the study of quadratic functions by concentrating on their graphs, the same way the study of linear functions is greatly clarified by knowing that their graphs are lines. We also introduce the concept of formal algebra in the study of polynomials with complex coefficients. The last three chapters in this volume complete the systematic exposition of high school geometry that is consistent with CCSSM. These chapters treat the geometry of the triangle and the circle, ruler and compass constructions, and a general discussion of axiomatic systems, including non-Euclidean geometry and the celebrated work of Hilbert on the foundations. This book should be useful for current and future teachers of K–12 mathematics, as well as for some high school students and for education professionals.

Familiar storylines and relatable contexts help students practice various principles of geometry, such as composing two-dimensional shapes, decomposing and partitioning shapes, and distinguishing between defining and non-defining attributes. Bright visuals reinforce the essential math concepts that every geometry student must master. A surprise party becomes an opportunity to teach about shapes and their defining and non-defining attributes in this engaging text. This volume satisfies CCSS Math Standard 1.G.A.1. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shapes are generally our first encounter with math. Geometry skills are learned from an early age, and readers build upon those first geometry lessons with topics like describing objects using the names of shapes, identifying both two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, and composing shapes. Readers are able to explore these essential concepts independently through easy-to-follow text and colorful images of both new and familiar shapes. Students learn to use the names of shapes to describe the relative position of an object in an accessible context. This book reflects standard K.G.A.1 of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. This book should be paired with "Where Is It?" (9781477719374) from the InfoMax Math Readers Program to provide the alternative point of view on the same topic.

Book excerpt: Exploring Geometry, Second Edition promotes student engagement with the beautiful ideas of geometry. Every major concept is introduced in its historical context and connects the idea with real-life. A system of experimentation followed by rigorous explanation and proof is central. Exploratory projects play an integral role in this text. Students develop a better sense of how to prove a result and visualize connections between statements, making these connections real. They develop the intuition needed to conjecture a theorem and devise a proof of what they have observed. Features: Second edition of a successful textbook for the first undergraduate course Every major concept is introduced in its historical context and connects the idea with real life Focuses on experimentation Projects help enhance student learning All major software programs can be used; free software from author
