Book The Geometry of Hamiltonian Systems

Download or read book The Geometry of Hamiltonian Systems written by Tudor Ratiu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume are an outgrowth of the lectures and informal discussions that took place during the workshop on "The Geometry of Hamiltonian Systems" which was held at MSRl from June 5 to 16, 1989. It was, in some sense, the last major event of the year-long program on Symplectic Geometry and Mechanics. The emphasis of all the talks was on Hamiltonian dynamics and its relationship to several aspects of symplectic geometry and topology, mechanics, and dynamical systems in general. The organizers of the conference were R. Devaney (co-chairman), H. Flaschka (co-chairman), K. Meyer, and T. Ratiu. The entire meeting was built around two mini-courses of five lectures each and a series of two expository lectures. The first of the mini-courses was given by A. T. Fomenko, who presented the work of his group at Moscow University on the classification of integrable systems. The second mini course was given by J. Marsden of UC Berkeley, who spoke about several applications of symplectic and Poisson reduction to problems in stability, normal forms, and symmetric Hamiltonian bifurcation theory. Finally, the two expository talks were given by A. Fathi of the University of Florida who concentrated on the links between symplectic geometry, dynamical systems, and Teichmiiller theory.

Book From Hodge Theory to Integrability and TQFT

Download or read book From Hodge Theory to Integrability and TQFT written by Ron Donagi and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Ideas from quantum field theory and string theory have had an enormous impact on geometry over the last two decades. One extremely fruitful source of new mathematical ideas goes back to the works of Cecotti, Vafa, et al. around 1991 on the geometry of topological field theory. Their tt*-geometry (tt* stands for topological-antitopological) was motivated by physics, but it turned out to unify ideas from such separate branches of mathematics as singularity theory, Hodge theory, integrable systems, matrix models, and Hurwitz spaces. The interaction among these fields suggested by tt*-geometry has become a fast moving and exciting research area. This book, loosely based on the 2007 Augsburg, Germany workshop "From tQFT to tt* and Integrability", is the perfect introduction to the range of mathematical topics relevant to tt*-geometry. It begins with several surveys of the main features of tt*-geometry, Frobenius manifolds, twistors, and related structures in algebraic and differential geometry, each starting from basic definitions and leading to current research. The volume moves on to explorations of current foundational issues in Hodge theory: higher weight phenomena in twistor theory and non-commutative Hodge structures and their relation to mirror symmetry. The book concludes with a series of applications to integrable systems and enumerative geometry, exploring further extensions and connections to physics. With its progression through introductory, foundational, and exploratory material, this book is an indispensable companion for anyone working in the subject or wishing to enter it."--Publisher's website.

This book was released on 1992-08-26 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Workshop NEEDS '91 brought together, from all over the world, scientists engaged in research on nonlinear systems, either their underlying mathematical properties or their physical applications. Accordingly, many talks were devoted to present methods of solution (like spectral transform) and to the investigation of structural (geometrical and/or algebraic) properties of (continuous and discrete) nonlinear evolution equations. Peculiar nonlinear systems, such as cellular automata, were also discussed. Applications to various fields of physics, namely, quantum field theory, fluid dynamics, general relativity and plasma physics were considered.
