Book Groups and Geometric Analysis

Download or read book Groups and Geometric Analysis written by Sigurdur Helgason and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, the second of Helgason's impressive three books on Lie groups and the geometry and analysis of symmetric spaces, is an introduction to group-theoretic methods in analysis on spaces with a group action. The first chapter deals with the three two-dimensional spaces of constant curvature, requiring only elementary methods and no Lie theory. It is remarkably accessible and would be suitable for a first-year graduate course. The remainder of the book covers more advanced topics, including the work of Harish-Chandra and others, but especially that of Helgason himself. Indeed, the exposition can be seen as an account of the author's tremendous contributions to the subject.Chapter I deals with modern integral geometry and Radon transforms. The second chapter examines the interconnection between Lie groups and differential operators. Chapter IV develops the theory of spherical functions on semisimple Lie groups with a certain degree of completeness, including a study of Harish-Chandra's $c$-function. The treatment of analysis on compact symmetric spaces (Chapter V) includes some finite-dimensional representation theory for compact Lie groups and Fourier analysis on compact groups. Each chapter ends with exercises (with solutions given at the end of the book!) and historical notes. This book, which is new to the AMS publishing program, is an excellent example of the author's well-known clear and careful writing style. It has become the standard text for the study of spherical functions and invariant differential operators on symmetric spaces. Sigurdur Helgason was awarded the Steele Prize for Groups and Geometric Analysis and the companion volume, ""Differential Geometry, Lie Groups and Symmetric Spaces.""

Book Integral Geometry and Radon Transforms

Download or read book Integral Geometry and Radon Transforms written by Sigurdur Helgason and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-17 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this text, integral geometry deals with Radon’s problem of representing a function on a manifold in terms of its integrals over certain submanifolds—hence the term the Radon transform. Examples and far-reaching generalizations lead to fundamental problems such as: (i) injectivity, (ii) inversion formulas, (iii) support questions, (iv) applications (e.g., to tomography, partial di erential equations and group representations). For the case of the plane, the inversion theorem and the support theorem have had major applications in medicine through tomography and CAT scanning. While containing some recent research, the book is aimed at beginning graduate students for classroom use or self-study. A number of exercises point to further results with documentation. From the reviews: “Integral Geometry is a fascinating area, where numerous branches of mathematics meet together. the contents of the book is concentrated around the duality and double vibration, which is realized through the masterful treatment of a variety of examples. the book is written by an expert, who has made fundamental contributions to the area.” —Boris Rubin, Louisiana State University

Book Integral Geometry and Representation Theory

Download or read book Integral Geometry and Representation Theory written by I. M. Gel'fand and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generalized Functions, Volume 5: Integral Geometry and Representation Theory is devoted to the theory of representations, focusing on the group of two-dimensional complex matrices of determinant one. This book emphasizes that the theory of representations is a good example of the use of algebraic and geometric methods in functional analysis, in which transformations are performed not on the points of a space, but on the functions defined on it. The topics discussed include Radon transform on a real affine space, integral transforms in the complex domain, and representations of the group of complex unimodular matrices in two dimensions. The properties of the Fourier transform on G, integral geometry in a space of constant curvature, harmonic analysis on spaces homogeneous with respect to the Lorentz Group, and invariance under translation and dilation are also described. This volume is suitable for mathematicians, specialists, and students learning integral geometry and representation theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete theory of integration as it appears in geometric and physical problems must include integration over oriented r-dimensional domains in n-space; both the integrand and the domain may be variable. This is the primary subject matter of the present book, designed to bring out the underlying geometric and analytic ideas and to give clear and complete proofs of the basic theorems. Book New Trends in Geometric Analysis

Download or read book New Trends in Geometric Analysis written by Antonio Alarcón and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-25 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to provide an overview of some of the progress made by the Spanish Network of Geometric Analysis (REAG, by its Spanish acronym) since its born in 2007. REAG was created with the objective of enabling the interchange of ideas and the knowledge transfer between several Spanish groups having Geometric Analysis as a common research line. This includes nine groups at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad de Granada, Universidad Jaume I de Castellón, Universidad de Murcia, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela and Universidad de Valencia. The success of REAG has been substantiated with regular meetings and the publication of research papers obtained in collaboration between the members of different nodes. On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of REAG this book aims to collect some old and new contributions of this network to Geometric Analysis. The book consists of thirteen independent chapters, all of them authored by current members of REAG. The topics under study cover geometric flows, constant mean curvature surfaces in Riemannian and sub-Riemannian spaces, integral geometry, potential theory and Riemannian geometry, among others. Some of these chapters have been written in collaboration between members of different nodes of the network, and show the fruitfulness of the common research atmosphere provided by REAG. The rest of the chapters survey a research line or present recent progresses within a group of those forming REAG. Surveying several research lines and offering new directions in the field, the volume is addressed to researchers (including postdocs and PhD students) in Geometric Analysis in the large.

Download or read book Geometric Integration Theory written by Steven G. Krantz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-15 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook introduces geometric measure theory through the notion of currents. Currents, continuous linear functionals on spaces of differential forms, are a natural language in which to formulate types of extremal problems arising in geometry, and can be used to study generalized versions of the Plateau problem and related questions in geometric analysis.
