Book Geology of the Fletcher Lake Area

Download or read book Geology of the Fletcher Lake Area written by R. H. Sutcliffe and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fletcher Lake area lies northwest of the town of Armstrong in the District of Thunder Bay. Field work was carried out from early June to September 1980. Mapping was done by pace and compass traverses over land areas, and shoreline examination of navigable lakes and streams. This report includes general geology, geochemistry, metamorphism, structural geology, and economic geology, including descriptions of properties and exploration. Recommendations for exploration of gold, copper-zinc-lead, copper-nickel, and lithophile elements are included.

Book Geology for Ground Engineering Projects

Download or read book Geology for Ground Engineering Projects written by Chris J. N. Fletcher and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridges the Gap between Geology and Ground Engineering High-quality geological models are crucial for ground engineering projects, but many engineers are not always at ease with the geological terminology and analysis presented in these models, nor with their implications and limitations. Project engineers need to have a sound comprehension of the geological models presented to them, and to be able to discuss the models in so far as they might impinge on the design, safety and possible budgetary or time constraints of the project. They should also fully understand how site investigation data and samples are used to develop and substantiate geological models. Geology for Ground Engineering Projects provides a comprehensive presentation of, and insight into, the critical geological phenomena that may be encountered in many engineering projects, for example rock contact relationships, weathering and karst phenomena in tropical areas, composition of fault zones and variability of rock discontinuities. Examples are provided from around the world, including Southeast Asia, Europe, North and South America, China and India. Comprehensive and well-illustrated, this definitive book: Describes the important geological phenomena that could affect ground engineering projects Provides a practical knowledge-base for relevant geological processes Addresses common geological issues and concerns Rocks are described in relation to the environment of their formation, highlighting the variation in composition, distribution and geotechnical properties that can be expected within a variety of rock associations. Case studies, where geology has been a vital factor, are included. These are written by the project engineers or geologists responsible for the projects. Geology for Ground Engineering Projects is well illustrated with color diagrams and photographs. Readers are directed to satellite images of selected areas to explore for themselves many of the geological features described in this book.

Book Lamprophyres

  • Author : N. M. S. Rock
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 1475709293

Download or read book Lamprophyres written by N. M. S. Rock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following their recognition by GUmbel (1874), lamprophyres were treated for an entire century as little more than obscure curiosities. Although this situation has changed recently, with a flowering of publications and active workers, lamprophyres remain almost the only group of igneous rocks which have not yet received attention in a dedicated monograph. In five exploratory reviews (1977-1987), the writer aimed to set out what was known about these rocks. The lUGS Subcommission on igneous rock systematics had meanwhile presented its nomenclatural framework (Streckeisen 1979). All this has now been overtaken by a recent explosion of interest, epitomized not least by lamprophyres' greater prominence in the 4th International Kimberlite Conference Proceedings. More data have become available since 1985 than over the entire previous century, and it is obviously impossible for such an extraordinary outpouring to be fully reviewed in this first, preliminary book. At the risk of dissatisfying some readers, therefore, this book concentrates on factual matters, and on a broad overview rather than minutiae. Because not even a world map of known lamprophyres was previously available, almost half the book is deliberately taken up by the first global lamprophyre compilation, and its commensurately extensive Bibliography. Such a compendium of largely objective information is believed to be of more immediate interest and lasting value than a premature pottage of petrogenetic polemic. Chapters 1-7 bring previous studies up to date, and concentrate on factual information.
