Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Stretching from the ocean to the eastern hills, the Perth Region has coastal landscapes, river-valley landscapes, and forested hilly landscapes that reflect the diverse geology beneath. This field guide covers some of the classic geological localities near Perth - for instance Cape Peron has preserved evidence for sea-level changes that have featured in scientific discussions for over 50 years. The guide describes the landscape and rocks and gives explanations on how they formed. Close-up photos and diagrams help the reader recognize and interpret the localities." - back cover.

Book Archean Rare Metal Pegmatites in Zimbabwe and Western Australia

Download or read book Archean Rare Metal Pegmatites in Zimbabwe and Western Australia written by Thomas Dittrich and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-13 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites are important resources for rare metals. For Cs, only the LCT pegmatites with the zeolite group mineral pollucite at Bikita (Zimbabwe Craton) and Tanco (Superior Province Craton) are of commercial importance. Common characteristics of world-class LCT pegmatite deposits include their Meso- to Neoarchean age and geological setting within greenstone belt lithologies on Archean Cratons. This study presents the first coherent and comparative scientific investigation of five major LCT pegmatite systems from the Yilgarn, Pilbara and Zimbabwe Craton. For the evaluation of their Cs potential and of the genetic concepts of pollucite formation, the pegmatites from Wodgina, Londonderry, Mount Deans and Cattlin Creek were compared to the Bikita pollucite mineralization. The integration of the new data (e.g., geochronological and radiogenic isotope data) into the complex geological framework: 1) enhances our knowledge of the formation of LCT pegmatite systems, and 2) will contribute to the further exploration of additional world-class LCT pegmatite deposits, which 3) may host massive pollucite mineralisations.

Book Ore Deposit Geology

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Ridley
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2013-07-04
  • ISBN : 1107244765
  • Pages : 411 pages

Download or read book Ore Deposit Geology written by John Ridley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mapping closely to how ore deposit geology is now taught, this textbook systematically describes and illustrates the major ore deposit types, linking this to their settings in the crust and the geological factors behind their formation. Written for advanced undergraduate and graduate students with a basic background in the geosciences, it provides a balance of practical information and coverage of the relevant geological sciences, including petrological, geochemical, hydrological and tectonic processes. Important theory is summarized without unnecessary detail and integrated with students' learning in other topics, including magmatic processes and sedimentary geology, enabling students to make links across the geosciences. Students are supported by further reading, a comprehensive glossary, and problems and review questions that test the application of theoretical approaches and encourage students to use what they have learnt. A website includes visual resources and combines with the book to provide students and instructors with a complete learning package.

Book excerpt: The Australian Continent: A Geophysical Synthesis is designed to provide a summary of the character of the Australian continent through the extensive information available at the continental scale, as a contribution to the understanding of Australia's lithospheric architecture and its evolution. The results build on the extensive databases assembled at Geoscience Australia, particularly for potential fields, supplemented by the full range of seismological information, mostly from The Australian National University. To aid in cross comparison of results from different disciplines, information is presented with a common projection and scales.

Book The Geology of Australia

  • Author : David Johnson
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2009-11-04
  • ISBN : 1107393728
  • Pages : 361 pages

Download or read book The Geology of Australia written by David Johnson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-11-04 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Geology of Australia provides a vivid and informative account of the evolution of the Australian continent over the last 4400 million years. Starting with the Precambrian rocks that hold clues to the origins of life and the development of an oxygenated atmosphere, it goes on to cover the warm seas, volcanism and episodes of mountain building, which formed the eastern third of the Australian continent. This illuminating history details the breakup of the supercontinents Rodinia and Gondwana, the times of previous glaciations, the development of climates and landscapes in modern Australia, and the creation of the continental shelves and coastlines. Separate chapters cover the origin of the Great Barrier Reef, the basalts in Eastern Australia, and the geology of the Solar System. This second edition features two new chapters, covering the evolution of life on Earth while emphasising the fossil record in Australia, and providing a geological perspective on climate change. From Uluru to the Great Dividing Range, from earthquakes to dinosaurs, from sapphires to the stars The Geology of Australia is a comprehensive exploration of the timeless forces that have shaped this continent.
