This book was released on 2017-07-07 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Proceedings of the Lake Superior Mining Institute The main drifts through the ore deposits are sixteen feet wide and are timbered for a double track with a clear passage of six feet in width for the locomotive and cars. A cross-cut north and south through jasper unites the two deposits and contains a single track. As a rule, the mills are so located that the cars may be load ed from them while standing on the main tracks. In describing the plant we will begin with the track, which. In the ore deposits, is double, and provided with cross-overs, as shown in the plan. It is constructed of steel rails twenty-six feet long and weighing thirty pounds to the yard, joined with ordinary straps or fish plates. The ties are 4 x 8 inches, and of hemlock, laid two feet from center to center. The switches are the ordinary stub switch, with blind' switch stands, and the gauge of the track is thirty inches. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 60 of Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry assesses the current state of knowledge of lunar geoscience, given the data sets provided by missions of the 1990's, and lists remaining key questions as well as new ones for future exploration to address. It documents how a planet or moon other than the world on which we live can be studied and understood in light of integrated suites of specific kinds of information. The Moon is the only body other than Earth for which we have material samples of known geologic context for study. This volume seeks to show how the different kinds of information gained about the Moon relate to each other and also to learn from this experience, thus allowing more efficient planning for the exploration of other worlds.

Download or read book Moon written by Viorel Badescu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-22 with total page 771 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Earth has limited material and energy resources. Further development of the humanity will require going beyond our planet for mining and use of extraterrestrial mineral resources and search of power sources. The exploitation of the natural resources of the Moon is a first natural step on this direction. Lunar materials may contribute to the betterment of conditions of people on Earth but they also may be used to establish permanent settlements on the Moon. This will allow developing new technologies, systems and flight operation techniques to continue space exploration. In fact, a new branch of human civilization could be established permanently on Moon in the next century. But, meantime, an inventory and proper social assessment of Moon’s prospective energy and material resources is required. This book investigates the possibilities and limitations of various systems supplying manned bases on Moon with energy and other vital resources. The book collects together recent proposals and innovative options and solutions. It is a useful source of condensed information for specialists involved in current and impending Moon-related activities and a good starting point for young researchers.

Book Komatiite

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nicholas Arndt
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2018-03-01
  • ISBN : 9781108460514
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Komatiite written by Nicholas Arndt and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Komatiites erupted billions of years ago as pulsating streams of white-hot lava. Their unusual chemical compositions and exceptionally high formation temperatures produced highly fluid lava that crystallized as spectacular layered flows. Investigation of the extreme conditions in which komatiites formed provides important evidence about the thermal and chemical evolution of the planet, and the nature of the Precambrian mantle. This monograph, written by three experts with long experience in the field, presents a complete account of the characteristics of komatiites including their volcanic structures, textures, mineralogy and chemical compositions. Models for their formation and eruption are evaluated (including the anhydrous vs. hydrous magmas controversy). A chapter is also devoted to the valuable nickel and copper ore deposits found in komatiites. Komatiite is a key reference for researchers and advanced students interested in petrology, Archaean geology, economic geology, and broader questions about the evolution of the Earth's crust and mantle.

Book The Geochemistry of Stable Chlorine and Bromine Isotopes

Download or read book The Geochemistry of Stable Chlorine and Bromine Isotopes written by Hans Eggenkamp and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-25 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides detailed information on the history, analysis and applications of chlorine and bromine isotope geochemistry. Chlorine and bromine are geochemically unique as they prefer to exist as single charged negative ions. For this reason isotope fractionation reflects mostly processes that are not related to changes in the redox state and this fractionation is generally modest. The book will describe the processes that are most easily detected using these isotopes. Also isotope variations, and processes that cause them, measured in oxidised species such as perchlorates and in organic molecules will be described in this book.
