Book Geology and Mineral Resources of the Neenach Quadrangle California Classic Reprint

Download or read book Geology and Mineral Resources of the Neenach Quadrangle California Classic Reprint written by John H. Wiese and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Geology and Mineral Resources of the Neenach Quadrangle, California Sir: I have the honor to transmit herewith Bulletin 153, Geology and Mineral Resources of the Neenach Quadrangle, California, prepared under the direction of Olaf P. Jenkins, Chief of the Division of Mines, Department of Natural Resources. The report is accompanied by a number of maps, charts, and illustrations, including a detailed geologic map, lithographed in color, of the 15-minute Neenach quadrangle. The area of this quadrangle is nearly 250 square miles, covering portions of the Tehachapi Mountains and Antelope Valley in Kern and Los Angeles Counties. Two famous earthquake fault zones, the San Andreas and Garlock faults, pass through the area mapped. Their junction point lies several miles to the west at Gorman and Lebec where State Highway 99 cuts through the Tejon Pass. It is significant that the area mapped contains tin deposits discovered and prospected during World War I. These, together with gold, copper, tungsten, molybdenum, marble and limestone, crushed rock, volcanic ash and ground water, are described in this bulletin. The author, John H. Wiese, prepared the report while in the employ of the United States Geological Survey and in connection with graduate study at the University of California at Los Angeles. Cooperating with the Federal Survey and the State University, the State Division has helped to sponsor the undertaking and is publishing the results of the work as one of its series of bulletins. This book was released on 2015-07-28 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Structural and Industrial Materials of California Gentlemen: I have the honor to transmit the work of the State Mining Bureau in the investigation of the Structural and Industrial Materials of California, as incorporated in Bulletin No. 3S of this department, and which have not been fully reported upon in previous bulletins, named below and issued under my direction. For information on mineral substances not herein noted, and which might be classed as industrial materials, references are made particularly to the following bulletins issued by the State Mining Bureau: Bulletin No. 23. "Copper Resources of California"; Bulletin No. 24, "Saline Deposits of California"; Bulletin No. 27, "Quicksilver Resources of California" Bulletin No. 32, "Production and Use of California Petroleum"; Bulletin No. 37, "Gems and Jewelers' Materials and Ornamental Stones of California." It was considered advisable to issue the bulletin at this time, owing to the rapid increase in building operations in California within the past few years. The great demand for building stones, marble, clay products, etc.. together with the phenomenal strides made in the various industrial pursuits, which are to a very great extent dependent upon the mineral industry of this State, has created a demand for an official bulletin wherein would be found a description not only of the developed but also of the undeveloped mineral resources of the State, on which this bulletin treats. The field work was commenced on this bulletin in July, 1904, and it has been carried on as rapidly as conditions would permit. Beginning with the 1930 issues, the activities and progress of the Geologic Branch are recorded also in these quarterly chapters. The important part that geology plays in the economic development of our mineral resources is further recognized in the change of title from Mining in California to california journal OF mines and geology, beginning with the January, 1933, chapter. While current activities Of all descriptions are covered in these chapters, the practice of issuing from time to time technical reports on special subjects will be continued as well. A list of such reports now available is appended hereto, and the names of new bulletins will be added in the future as they are completed.
