Book Geology of Millard County Utah

Download or read book Geology of Millard County Utah written by Lehi F. Hintze and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2003 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bulletin serves not only to introduce the non-geologist to the rich geology of Millard County, but also to provide professional geologists with technical information on the stratigraphy, paleontology, and structural geology of the county. Millard County is unique among Utah’s counties in that it contains an exceptionally complete billion-year geologic record. This happened because until about 200 million years ago the area of present-day Millard County lay near sea level and was awash in shallow marine waters on a continental shelf upon which a stack of fossil-bearing strata more than 6 miles (10 km) thick slowly accumulated. This bulletin summarizes what is known about these strata, as well as younger rocks and surficial deposits in the county, and provides references to scientific papers that describe them in greater detail. Mountains North 30 x 60 (1:100,000-scale) quadrangles. These companion maps and this bulletin portray the geology of Millard County more completely and accurately than any previously published work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific analyses of the geology, metallogeny, and mineralization of gold, silver and other high-value elements in the western USATechnical details on working mines, exploration results, new depositsPresentations produced with the United States Geological Survey, Society of Economic GeologistsTwo-volume book set printed in full color with full-text searchable CD-ROM Produced under the auspices of the Geological Society of Nevada and published every five years, this two-volume book of peer-reviewed papers focuses on the geological analysis of ore-rich deposits in the western United States, especially ones containing gold and other high-value elements. Hundreds of stratigraphic, lithographic, remote-sensing and core sample examples are presented, particularly of areas likely to host Carlin-type gold deposits. The two volumes contain a wealth of data on specifically named mines, as well as technical information on high-potential areas for exploration. The book is profusely illustrated with full-color maps, photographs and charts for geology and mining engineering. A searchable CD accompanies the book and includes the full text of papers from the printed book, as well as abstracts and information from poster sessions not found in the printed book. Chapters in the text are fully refereed versions of presentations originally delivered at a symposium supported by the Geological Society of Nevada, along with the United States Geological Survey, Society of Economic Geologists and the Nevada Bureau of Mines. Sample key words: metallogeny, gold, epithermal ore, magmatism, Carlin trend, square array void mapping (SAVM), porphyry copper, tungsten, orogeny, lithogeochemistry, 3-D resistivity and modeling, fault-surface mapping, airborne electromagnetics and more. *The CD-ROM displays figures and illustrations in articles in full color along with a title screen and main menu screen. Each user can link to all papers from the Table of Contents and Author Index and also link to papers and front matter by using the global bookmarks which allow navigation of the entire CD-ROM from every article. Search features on the CD-ROM can be by full text including all key words, article title, author name, and session title. The CD-ROM has Autorun feature for Windows 2000 or higher products and can also be used with Macintosh computers. The CD includes the program for Adobe Acrobat Reader with Search 11.0. Book Geology of Utah s Mountains Peaks and Plateaus

Download or read book Geology of Utah s Mountains Peaks and Plateaus written by William T. Parry and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2016 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utah's landscape is among the most spectacular in the world. It is a region of prominent peaks, sweeping valleys, dramatic canyons, and plateaus rimmed by sheer cliffs. Unique among western states, Utah's landscape includes the Colorado Plateau, Basin and Range, and Rocky Mountains geologic provinces. Exposed rocks tell the geologic story of the region's basement structures, overlying surface features, and rock sequences that have contributed to sculpting the appearance of today's landscape. Rocks and formations record the evolution of the western part of the North American continent, and give clues to the nature of ancient crustal basement and Earth's deeper layers. Climate change has shaped the present landscape through the erosional power of ancient glaciers and the presence of today's large lakes and basins. Geology of Utah introduces the state's deep earth, plate tectonics, and the development of its ancient mountains. It describes the geology of the three main geological provinces, ancient elevations, cliffs, valleys, and the history of the region's climate. This book will enrich the experience of enthusiastic amateur geologists who want to understand and explore the development of Utah's highlands and the history of this dynamic landscape.

Book Tertiary Volcanic Rocks of Needles Range Western Utah

Download or read book Tertiary Volcanic Rocks of Needles Range Western Utah written by Omar G. Conrad and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The northern half of the Needles Range is an eastward-tilted, fault-block mountain range in the extreme western part of Utah. Detailed field study of ignimbrite layers shows three main unites (herein named) beneath the well-known Isom and Needles Range formations: (from bottom to top) the Indian Peak Formation; the Sawtooth Peak Formation, probably equivalent to the Windous Butte Formation of east central Nevada; and the Beers Spring Formation. Using ignimbrite layers as stratigraphic units, events in regional structural development may be interpreted as follows: the southern part of the area began to subside during the late Eocene or the early Oligocene, shortly after initiation of inimbrite-producing eruptions, subsidencebecame localized as an eastward-trending trough or graben, later filled by several successive ignimbrites; sinking continued intermittently throughout deposition of the Needles Range and Isom Formations during mid-Oligocene time. During late Oligocene time, major normal faults produced the northerly trend and easterly tilt of the Needles Range.
