Download or read book Critical Mineral Resources of the United States written by K. J. Schulz and published by Geological Survey. This book was released on 2017 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the importance and dependence of specific mineral commodities increase, so does concern about their supply. The United States is currently 100 percent reliant on foreign sources for 20 mineral commodities and imports the majority of its supply of more than 50 mineral commodities. Mineral commodities that have important uses and face potential supply disruption are critical to American economic and national security. However, a mineral commodity's importance and the nature of its supply chain can change with time; a mineral commodity that may not have been considered critical 25 years ago may be critical today, and one considered critical today may not be so in the future. The U.S. Geological Survey has produced this volume to describe a select group of mineral commodities currently critical to our economy and security. For each mineral commodity covered, the authors provide a comprehensive look at (1) the commodity's use; (2) the geology and global distribution of the mineral deposit types that account for the present and possible future supply of the commodity; (3) the current status of production, reserves, and resources in the United States and globally; and (4) environmental considerations related to the commodity's production from different types of mineral deposits. The volume describes U.S. critical mineral resources in a global context, for no country can be self-sufficient for all its mineral commodity needs, and the United States will always rely on global mineral commodity supply chains. This volume provides the scientific understanding of critical mineral resources required for informed decisionmaking by those responsible for ensuring that the United States has a secure and sustainable supply of mineral commodities.
Download or read book Geologic Resources of Washington County Utah written by Miriam H. Bugden and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 1993-12 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brochure introduces the reader to Washington County’s geologic resources and investigates the effects they have on our economy and daily lives. Understanding the dynamic forces that formed our resources and the factors that influence their use helps us understand the intergral roles that resources play in society.
Download or read book Geological Resources of Salt Lake County Utah written by Sandra N. Eldredge and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 1990-06 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brochure is an introduction to Salt Lake County's geologic resources and the important role they play in our economy and everyday lives. Understanding the dynamic forces that form geologic resources and the factors that influence their development and use helps us realize the value of the earth's natural assets. The resources are divided into three categories: 1) metallic, 2) non-metallic, and 3) energy. Salt Lake County's resources are numerous, therefore only a few of particular significance to the county are discussed in detail. Their origin, mining history, extraction, and common uses are reviewed. The remaining resources and pertinent data are included in Tables 1, 2 and 3. A generalized geologic map, generalized geologic time scale, geologic resource map, and glossary are included for reading aids.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Harmon Norton was Professor of geology at Cornell University. Norton wrote this textbook wanting to develop the relationship between causes and their effects in a clear cut manner. Norton stresses the importance of the teacher using field study and observation along with the text. The book is divided into three sections. External geology concentrates on weather, glaciers, wind etc. Internal geology studies the earthżs crust, earthquakes, volcanoes etc. The final section, historical geology, covers carboniferous, Mesozoic, tertiary, etc.
Download or read book Myanmar written by A.J. Barber and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2017-11-20 with total page 769 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Myanmar is a country vastly rich in gold, silver, base metals, tin–tungsten, gems and hydrocarbons and is one of the last exploration frontiers remaining in the world. Tectonically Myanmar lies at the eastern end of the Himalayan Mountain Chain and over the last 50 Ma has been profoundly affected by the collision between India and Eurasia, which is still ongoing, with frequent destructive earthquakes. Recent advances have been made in understanding the results of the collision, through the study of geochronology, seismicity, stratigraphy and structure. The development of a systematic mapping programme has been restricted by problems of access, due to limited infrastructure and armed insurgencies, meaning that large areas of the country have not been explored adequately. Recent political changes and reforms, with reconciliations with various ethnic groups, however, will permit access to large areas in Kayin, Kayah, Shan and Kachin States, enabling further research and exploration in new crustal blocks and terranes. In this Memoir a group of Myanmar and international geologists have combined to include all that is currently known about the geology of Myanmar, its mineral and energy resources and its tectonic development.
