Book Food Composition Data

Download or read book Food Composition Data written by H. Greenfield and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-11-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About twenty years ago, there was a recognition in Europe that real benefits would flow from coordinating the manner in which food composition tables were produced in the various countries of Europe. Subsequent development of computerised nutritional data bases has further highlighted the potential advantages of working together. Such cooperation could lead to improved quality and compatibility of the various European nutrient data bases and the values within them. This realisation was one of the driving forces behind the development of the Eurofoods initiative in the 1980's when those people in Europe interested in data on food composition began working together. This initiative received further impetus with the establishment of the Eurofoods-Enfant Concerted Action Project within the framework of the FLAIR (Food-Linked Agro-Industrial Research) Programme of the Commission of the European Communities. It was quickly recognised that the draft guidelines for the production, management and use of food composition data which had been prepared under the aegis of INFOODS (International Network of Food Data Systems, a project of the United Nations University), would be especially applicable to the objectives of the Concerted Action. The guidelines have been written by two recognised experts. Many people associated with FLAIR Eurofoods-Enfant have added constructive criticism and advice to that offered previously by those associated with INFOODS. Thus the guidelines are backed by a consensus in the community of those responsible for the production and use of food composition tables and nutrient data bases.

  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media

  • ISBN : 9401152403
  • Pages : 415 pages

Download or read book Life written by M. Kronegger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her Introduction, Tymieniecka states the core theme of the present book sharply: Is culture an excess of nature's prodigious expansiveness - an excess which might turn out to be dangerous for nature itself if it goes too far - or is culture a 'natural', congenial prolongation of nature-life? If the latter, then culture is assimilated into nature and thus would lose its claim to autonomy: its criteria would be superseded by those of nature alone. Of course, nature and culture may both still be seen as being absorbed by the inner powers of specifically human inwardness, on which view, human being, caught in its own transcendence, becomes separated radically in kind from the rest of existence and may not touch even the shadow of reality except through its own prism. Excess, therefore, or prolongation? And on what terms? The relationship between culture and nature in its technical phase demands a new elucidation. Here this is pursued by excavating the root significance of the 'multiple rationalities' of life. In contrast to Husserl, who differentiated living types according to their degree of participation in the world, the phenomenology of life disentangles living types from within the ontopoietic web of life itself. The human creative act reveals itself as the Great Divide of the Logos of Life - a divide that does not separate but harmonizes, thus dispelling both naturalistic and spiritualistic reductionism.

Book Conceptual Basis Formalisations and Parameterization of the Stics Crop Model

Download or read book Conceptual Basis Formalisations and Parameterization of the Stics Crop Model written by Nadine Brisson and published by Editions Quae. This book was released on 2009-01-19 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The STICS crop model has been developed since 1996 at INRA in collaboration with other research and technical institutes. The model syntheses, illustrates and concretizes an important part of the French agronomic knowledge as a point of view on the field and cropping systems working. The formalisations of the STICS crop model presented in this book can be considered as references used in the framework of crop sciences. The book arrangement relies on the way the model designs the crop-soil system functioning, each chapter being devoted to a set of important functions such as growth initiation, yield onset, water uptake, transformation of organic matter etc. One chapter deals with the cropping system and long term simulations and the final chapter is about the involvement of the user in terms of option choices and parameterization. If this book is mainly intended for scientists who use the STICS model, it can also be useful for agronomists, crop modellers, students and technicians looking for elementary formalizations of the crop-soil system functioning.

Book Innovation Evolution and Economic Change

Download or read book Innovation Evolution and Economic Change written by Blandine Laperche and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Kenneth Galbraith was an eminent economist and proponent of change. The contributors to the book further his analysis on the evolution of capitalism; taking into account changes to the general economic climate since the publication of J.K. Galbraith s main thesis, they outline new ideas which form fertile ground for new research. The book begins with a penetrating analysis of the main features of today s capitalism and in particular the conflict between shareholders and managers. It moves on to focus on the consequences of globalization in the decision-making processes of large corporations and represents an important step in the development of a theory of fraud and corruption within corporations. In the final part, the authors address and explore the consequences of the domination of influential groups over major social and political decisions, on the blurred boundaries between the public and the private sectors and its consequences in the fields of technological regulation and the evolution of public services. In so doing, the authors question the meaning and power of democracy in today s society. Innovation, Evolution and Economic Change will appeal to a wide readership and audience of economists, policy makers and political organization.
