Book Genetics of Scots Pine

Download or read book Genetics of Scots Pine written by M. Giertych and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the Scots pine species is most important in Eurasia, it was considered necessary to involve authors from as many countries as was possible including Eastern Europe and U.S.S.R. During the 18th IUFRO World Congress in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia, in September 1986, details were worked out for the contents of this book. This book is a truly international effort, prepared in the traditional IUFRO spirit of selfless co-operation. In all, 24 authors from 9 countries are involved. Each chapter was reviewed by two editors from two different countries.

Book Genetics Genomics and Breeding of Conifers

Download or read book Genetics Genomics and Breeding of Conifers written by Christophe Plomion and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-08-10 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With contributions by internationally reputed researchers in the field, this book presents the implications of the genomic revolution for conifers—promoting a better understanding of the evolution of these organisms as well as new knowledge about the molecular basis of quantitative trait variation. Both of these discoveries play important roles in their domestication. Topics include cytogenetics, patterns of nucleotide diversity, genetic mapping, integration of molecular markers in breeding, transcriptomics, advances in proteomics and metabolomics in gymnosperms, and economic importance.

Book Tropical Forest Genetics

Download or read book Tropical Forest Genetics written by Reiner Finkeldey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-11-22 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a solid scientific basis for researchers, practitioners and students interested in the application of genetic principles to tropical forest ecology and management. It presents a concise overview of genetic variation, evolutionary processes and the human impact on forest genetic resources in the tropics. In addition, modern tools to assess genetic diversity patterns and the dynamics of genetic structures are introduced to the non-specialist reader.

Book Genetic Evaluation of Rapid Height Growth in Pot and Nursery grown Scotch Pine

Download or read book Genetic Evaluation of Rapid Height Growth in Pot and Nursery grown Scotch Pine written by Maurice E. Demeritt and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2Genetic and environmental components of variance for 2-year heights of offspring from inter- and intra-provenance matings in Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) were studied to determine which provenances and selection methods should be used in a program to improve ornamental and Christmas trees. The study represents 11 experiments (parental groups), consisting of families from 7 diallel matings minus selfs in 5 different provenances, 3 factorial matings between provenances, and 1 from open pollination. The seedlings for the 11 experiments were grown in pots and in a nursery for 2 years. Heritability estimates of 2-year height from inter- and intra-provenance matings tended to be larger on a family basis than on an individual basis, with the larger estimates being from nursery evaluations. In general, additive genetic variance was larger than dominance variance, although dominance variance increased in provenance hybrids. Nursery evaluation was preferred to pot evaluation of 2-year height because heritability estimates were larger and error variances were smaller for the experiments evaluated. Individual selection in the nursery within the German provenance seems to be the best method for improvement of 2-year height of the provenances evaluated in this study, although the rate of improvement in the Spanish provenance may be greater. Simple recurrent selection would be a good method for improvement of traits important to the Christmas tree producing industry. S3.

Book Forest Tree Breeding in Europe

Download or read book Forest Tree Breeding in Europe written by Luc E Pâques and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-05-31 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forest tree breeding has been ongoing for more than 70 years across Europe. It has successfully generated improved varieties for the major economical forest tree species. They are part of the present European forestry landscape and largely contribute to intensive wood production and other forest activities. In this book, we describe the state-of-art of breeding for the main forest tree species. We provide a comprehensive, unique and up-to-date overview of the major scientific results and breeding achievements gathered from the many programmes scattered across Europe. The book is divided into 10 chapters, each as a monograph corresponding to a species or group of species Abies spp., (Larix spp., Picea abies, Picea sitchensis, Pinus sylvestris, Pseudotsuga menziesii, and Mediterranean pines; Acer pseudoplatanus, Fraxinus excelsior, and Prunus avium). Each of them is written by a group of experts and focuses on the distribution and economical importance of the species; motivation for breeding and breeding objectives; intraspecific genetic variability, breeding populations and breeding strategy; forest reproductive material deployment including mass-propagation and, prospects and perspectives for joint research and breeding. The book is a unique and up-dated source of information for students, researchers and professionals interested in the genetics and domestication of forest tree species.

Book Fungicides

Download or read book Fungicides written by Mizuho Nita and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2013-05-15 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprised of three sections that focus various aspects of fungicide usages and its consequences. In the eight-chapter first section, authors discuss implementation of Integrated Plant Disease Management on a wide array of crops grown in different parts of the world: wheat productions in Argentina and in the US; corn, cotton and Eucalyptus productions in Brazil; rice productions in India; peanut productions in the southern US; and pine seedling nurseries in Serbia. The second section is composed of two chapters that explore the possibility of natural products as fungicides. The final section discusses two interesting and important topics on the fungicide-fungus interaction that can influence the implementation of plant disease management practices, fungicide resistance and hormesis.
