Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present investigation on "Inheritance of grain yield and its components in Triticum aestivum L." was undertaken in three crosses, each with the set of six generations viz., P1, P2, F1, F2, B1 and B2.The present investigation revealed that cross NI-5439 x PHR-1009 can provide better opportunities for improvement through selection procedure than rest of the crosses i.e. NIAW-917 x VL-852 and HD-2189 x FLW-8. Though significant dominance and dominance x dominance gene components were observed for many characters in the three crosses studied, it cannot be exploited because of presence of duplicate type of epistasis. In such a situation maximum gain could be attained by maintaining considerable heterozygosity through mating of selected plants in early segregating generations or some sort of Recurrent Selection, Diallel Selective Mating System (Jensen, 1970) or Biparental Mating (Joshi and Dhawan, 1966) should be practiced. This would certainly enhance possibility that vvarious recombinations may result in the accumulation of favourable genes in ultimate homozygous lines.few cycles of recurrent selection followed by pedigree breeding approach can be suggested to improve the Yield.

Book Quantitative Genetics Genomics and Plant Breeding 2nd Edition

Download or read book Quantitative Genetics Genomics and Plant Breeding 2nd Edition written by Manjit S. Kang and published by CABI. This book was released on 2020-04-01 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents state-of-the-art, authoritative chapters on contemporary issues in the broad areas of quantitative genetics, genomics and plant breeding. Section 1 (Chapters 2 to 12) emphasizes the application of genomics, and genome and epigenome editing techniques, in plant breeding; bioinformatics; quantitative trait loci mapping; and the latest approaches of examining and exploiting genotype-environment interactions. Section 2 (Chapters 13 to 20) represents the intersection of breeding, genetics and genomics. This section describes the use of cutting-edge molecular breeding and quantitative genetics techniques in wheat, rice, maize, root and tuber crops and pearl millet. Overall, the book focuses on using genomic information to help evaluate traits that can combat biotic/abiotic stresses, genome-wide association mapping, high-throughput genotyping/phenotyping, biofortification, use of big data, orphan crops, and gene editing techniques. The examples featured are taken from across crop science research and cover a wide geographical base.

Book Genetic Diversity Analysis in Spring Wheat Triticum Aestivum L

Download or read book Genetic Diversity Analysis in Spring Wheat Triticum Aestivum L written by Deepak K.R. Baranwal and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a reference book which describes importance, use and basic information relevant to Wheat and its improvement. In reference to genetic diversity analysis, data was collected for yield and its components and utilized for genetic evaluation of diverse wheat genotypes. The analysis revealed high significant genetic variation for most of the yield components. Recent research findings in wheat improvement aspects have been incorporated in the book. The present research would be fruitful during formulating breeding strategies for wheat improvement. Methodology, experimental findings and their relation with earlier researches has been elaborated in the book. Thousand grain weight, plot yield, grains per spike, tiller per meter and ear length are found key traits for genetic evaluation of wheat genotypes and should be utilized in wheat breeding programmes. Genetic diversity analysis using Cluster and principal component analysis has explored an opportunity to identify diversified genotypes for crop improvement.Present book is basically written for Plant Breeding Scholar and persons interested in Wheat research.

This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wheat (Triticum aestivum. L) is an important cereal, used as staple food and a good source of income in different countries. It is providing food to the one third of world s population. Wheat grain is highly venerated for a number of products. To feed the increasing population of world is a great challenge for researchers. The only way to tackle this challenge is to develop new genotypes with good yield potential and to enhance the potential of available genotypes. Breeding strategies for high potential varieties made on the basis of scientific and agronomic knowledge is good way to achieve this goal. Both quality and quantity of grain are important targets to improve. Genetic analysis is one of best tools to exploit the potential of species for application on commercial scale. It will not only enable us to feed humanity but also direct to use natural resources in proper way.

Book Genetic Analysis of Kernel Traits in Bread Wheat T Aestivum

Download or read book Genetic Analysis of Kernel Traits in Bread Wheat T Aestivum written by Mala Kumari and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-14 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the most important food crops, feeding about 40 % of the world's population. Genetic improvement in wheat focus on three main areas: enhancing yield, overcoming biotic and abiotic stress and improvement end use quality. Grain size is an important physical indicator of seed quality that affects vegetative growth and is frequently related to yield, market grade factors and harvest efficiency. The grain length, width, and area were associated with a 40% variation in the milling quality of Australian winter wheat cultivars. Grain color is also one of important traits affecting flour yield and quality in wheat. For effective improvement of quality and yield of wheat, a plant breeder must have knowledge of inheritance of quality and agronomic traits.
