Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why can neither science nor religion alone explain Earth’s beginnings? How is it that man came to be the ruling species on our planet? If we can’t explain some of humanity’s past, what do we know of our future? Genesis Unzipped asks big questions about the origins of humanity and the universe, and gives answers based on years of author Lucio Licciardello’s personal research. By mixing modern science and the author’s own theories with existing theories about the Book of Genesis; ancient aliens; and Babylonian and Sumerian texts, a retelling of Earth’s history emerges. By looking in new ways at our past, we can look in new ways at what our future might be.

G. Dunn, Walter Kaiser and Max Turner. --Informed by the latest scholarship. --Will become the standard introductory survey on the subject. Book German Protestants Remember the Holocaust

Download or read book German Protestants Remember the Holocaust written by K. Hannah Holtschneider and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2001 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on the 1980s-90s, examines how Protestants in Germany interpret their self-understanding as part of the community which is defined by its connection to the Nazi past. Analyzes representations of the Holocaust and of the Christian-Jewish relationship in three German Protestant theological texts: the 1980 statement of the Rhineland synod of the Evangelical Church "Zur Erneuerung des Verhältnisses von Christen und Juden"; Marquardt's theological text "Von Elend und Heimsuchung der Theologie: Prolegomena zur Dogmatik" (1992); and Britta Jüngst's dissertation "Auf der Seite des Todes das Leben" (1996). The analysis of these texts is informed by the development of narratives of collective memory of the Holocaust in German society in the 1980s-90s, from the miniseries "Holocaust" to the Goldhagen controversy. All three texts admit the responsibility of Christianity and Christians for the Holocaust and build theologies that do not reject Jews. Contends that, contrary to their stated intentions, most Holocaust theologians do not truly listen to the Jewish perspective. Calls on practitioners of "theology after Auschwitz" to embrace Jews and Judaism in order to restore the credibility of Christian Churches which abandoned the Jews in Auschwitz.

Book The Strategic Grasp Of The Bible

Download or read book The Strategic Grasp Of The Bible written by J. Sidlow Baxter and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2017-01-10 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the compass of this substantial volume, a major study work, Dr. J. Sidlow Baxter points out the marvel of the structural design of the Scriptures. First examining the “architecture” of the Bible, he suggests the basic approach to, and expectation of what is to be gained by the study of Scriptures. He then makes clear how a certain fitness for delineating the spiritual truths of the Bible may be acquired - and so he leads the reader to understand the structure of the Bible as a whole. In the second part of his book, Dr. Baxter points to the two dispensations defined in John 1:17 and offers stimulating comparisons between the Old and New Testaments. Further chapters lead toward a clear understanding of the Kingdom of Heaven, the Church, and the entire New Testament. Included in the text are useful outlines and tables to summarize key factors, figures, pronouncements and turning points which have pivotal or crucial significance in the total message of the Bible.

He gets on my nerves like no other, but it's somehow endearing. And I'm fighting my attraction to him every step of the way. But when he surprises me with his custody of Randall, the boy I'd lost my job trying to protect, every bit of ice within my soul melts for him. Halen may be lawless, but he's one of the good guys. Now, only one problem remains. Am I strong enough to give this man the power to hurt me?

Book Milton and the Resources of the Line

Download or read book Milton and the Resources of the Line written by John Creaser and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-07-22 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will change how readers read not only Milton but any poetry. Whereas prose is written in sentences, poetry is written in lines, lines that may or may not coincide with the syntax of the sentence. Lines add an aural and visual mode of punctuation, with some degree of pause and weight at the line-turn. So lineation, the division of poetry into lines, opens a repertoire of possibilities to the poet. Notably, it encourages an enhanced concentration on meaning, rhythm, and sound. It makes metrical patterns possible, with interactions between regularity and deviation; or it makes possible the presence or absence of structural rhyme; or the multiple variations of the line-turn, whether in harmony with syntax or overflowing, in ways that may be either more or less conspicuous. Starting from theories of Derek Attridge, this book develops new methods for exploring the expressive resources of the verse line as exploited by the greatest of English poets, John Milton. Topics examined include: the interaction of strictness and freedom in the rhythms of Milton's line and paragraph; the interfusion of diverse prosodies in a single poem; approaches to free verse; rhyme in the earlier lyric verse and modes of near-rhyme in the later blank verse; the diverse modes of onomatopoeia; and the complex interweavings of prosody and ideology in this very political poet. The great themes and issues and characters of Milton's innovative and always controversial poetry are perceived afresh, being approached intimately through the rich possibilities of the line, and the insights of the approach illuminate the reading of any poetry.

Book Slow Dancing with the Devil

Download or read book Slow Dancing with the Devil written by Susan Bartz Herrick and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2024-02-08 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Susan Herrick's memoir follows the story of her beloved son and only child, Luke, through his struggle with opioid addiction, recovery and sobriety, and untimely and heartbreaking death. Luke suffered a near-fatal car accident that left him partially paralyzed and addicted to Oxycontin, the very drug that helped save his life. Susan turned to the streets to obtain Suboxone, a legal but medically restricted opioid blocker, in an attempt to save her son's life. Remembering this, she writes, "The day I became my son's drug dealer, we both died, in a way." This poignant and compelling memoir exposes the rampant prescribing of Oxycontin, upwards of 600mg daily in cases like Luke's, and the role overprescribing plays in the disease of Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Through Luke's story, the author addresses failed public policies, misguided medical practices, societal stigmas, and enabling tendencies of loved ones that hinder recovery for those afflicted with SUD.
