Download or read book Principles and Dynamics of the Critical Zone written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-06-18 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles and Dynamics of the Critical Zone is an invaluable resource for undergraduate and graduate courses and an essential tool for researchers developing cutting-edge proposals. It provides a process-based description of the Critical Zone, a place that The National Research Council (2001) defines as the "heterogeneous, near surface environment in which complex interactions involving rock, soil, water, air, and living organisms regulate the natural habitat and determine the availability of life-sustaining resources." This text provides a summary of Critical Zone research and outcomes from the NSF funded Critical Zone Observatories, providing a process-based description of the Critical Zone in a wide range of environments with a specific focus on the important linkages that exist amongst the processes in each zone. This book will be useful to all scientists and students conducting research on the Critical Zone within and outside the Critical Zone Observatory Network, as well as scientists and students in the geosciences – atmosphere, geomorphology, geology and pedology. - The first text to address the principles and concepts of the Critical Zone - A comprehensive approach to the processes responsible for the development and structure of the Critical Zone in a number of environments - An essential tool for undergraduate and graduate students, and researchers developing cutting-edge proposals
Download or read book Weathering and Landscape Evolution written by A. Turkington and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2005-08-04 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recognition of the fundamental control exerted by weathering on landscape evolution and topographic development, the 35th Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium was convened under the theme of Weathering and Landscape Evolution. The papers and posters presented at the conference imparted the state-of-the-art in weathering geomorphology, tackled the issue of scale linkage in geomorphic studies and offered a vehicle for interdisciplinary communication on research into weathering and landscape evolution. The papers included in this book are encapsulated here under the general themes of weathering mantles, weathering and relative dating, weathering and denudation, weathering processes and controls and the 'big picture'. * Contains 15 papers on the techniques and methodologies of research * Provides an up-to-date overview of various aspects of weathering and landscape evolution complemented by a number of excellent case studies * Contains a wealth of basic field data and relevant information

Download or read book Geomorphology written by Arthur Leroy Bloom and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A systematic analysis of landforms of the late Cenzoic Era that fully covers the constructional processes of tectonism and volcanism and the erosional processes of weathering, flurial erosion, glaciers, winds, and waves. It explains each set of processes and the resulting landforms in a separate chapter to provide a comprehensive, nonmathematical overview of the subject. Coverage of rock weathering includes more discussion of soils, soil formation, and soils chronosequences, which tell about the evolution of the present landscape. A chapter on The Last Glacial-Interglacial Cycle,¿ stresses the intensity of change during and since the last ice age when human civilization has risen, and appeals to readers to understand change as a normal factor of life on Earth.

Download or read book Sediment hosted Pb Zn Cu Ba Mineralisation Within the Coastal Branches of the Damara Orogen Namibia written by Gregor Borg and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Soils and Landscape Evolution written by P. L. K. Knuepfer and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1990 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation of how landforms develop and of rates of processes has traditionally relied on the study of surfaces and sediments. Soils that have developed on geomorphic surfaces have the potential to record more accurately the history of landscape development. Historically, however, soils have been largely ignored by most geomorphologists in favour of concentration on stratigraphic and sedimentologic relationships (i.e. the deposits) or morphometric (i.e. the form of the landscape) studies. Only recently have most geomorphologists and geologists begun to appreciate the importance and utility of soils in studies of landforms. This book focuses on the relationship between soils and landforms and landscapes, mostly in non-glaciated areas, thus filling a major gap in the geomorphology literature. It is directed both at geomorphologists (including geologists and geographers) and pedologists.
