Book Generation of Specific Chromaticities on CRT Monitors

Download or read book Generation of Specific Chromaticities on CRT Monitors written by Barbara Bernabe and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increased use of CRT displays for presenting the aviator with flight information has generated an increasing interest in the use of color for representing CRT display symbology. Critical to the implementation of color for this purpose is the development of standardized chromaticities for coding displayed features. Generation of specific chromaticities on CRT displays applied color matching principles using the chromaticities of CRT phosphors as the new set of primaries, and transforming their ratios in the generated color to those of a desired standard color. A procedure to implement this transformation was proposed by Gutmann and Rogers (1982), and further developed by Spiker and Rogers (1984). While their procedure was theoretically sound with respect to color mixing principles, it failed to produce predicted chromaticities when used in conjunction with a variety of commercial and aircraft CRT monitors. This result raised some perplexing issues with respect to the relationship between color display technology, the science of color mixing, and the psychophysics of color perception. This report attempts to clarify the problem of direct application of color mixing to CRT's and proposes a modified procedure for generating specific chromaticities on CRT displays suitable for use in a field environment.

Book An Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors

Download or read book An Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three experiments were performed to evaluate methods for generating colors having desired CIE chromaticity coordinates and luminances on CRT monitors. Methods based on piecewise linear interpolation were found to yield better accuracy than others based on linear regression. Comparisons between two monitors revealed no substantial differences in accuracy but the monitor's state of adjustment was found to have important effects. Evidence was also obtained concerning the number of CRT measurement points needed to obtain maximum accuracy from the interpolation-based methods. The methods' accuracies are characterized and avenues for improvement are suggested.

Book Further Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors

Download or read book Further Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three experiments were performed to evaluate methods for predicting the luminances and chromaticity coordinates produced by color CRT monitors, given known inputs. Linear and logarithmic versions of PLCC and PLVC, plus Berns, Motta, and Gorzynski's power function, were tested. Estimates are provided for the number of CRT measurement points needed to maximize each method's predictive accuracy. Correcting for unintended light from the monitor is shown to improve accuracy substantially for a case involving a seemingly small amount of light. Berns et. al.'s characterization technique, which involves measuring the monitor's neutral point, is shown to yield the same accuracy as conventional characterization while reducing the number of measurements required, and to yield improved accuracy when correction for unintended light is needed but impractical. The accuracies of the predictive methods are compared and recommendations for their use are provided.

Book Adaptive Optics for Vision Science

Download or read book Adaptive Optics for Vision Science written by Jason Porter and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-06-12 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leading experts present the latest technology and applications in adaptive optics for vision science Featuring contributions from the foremost researchers in the field, Adaptive Optics for Vision Science is the first book devoted entirely to providing the fundamentals of adaptive optics along with its practical applications in vision science. The material for this book stems from collaborations fostered by the Center for Adaptive Optics, a consortium of more than thirty universities, government laboratories, and corporations. Although the book is written primarily for researchers in vision science and ophthalmology, the field of adaptive optics has strong roots in astronomy. Researchers in both fields share this technology and, for this reason, the book includes chapters by both astronomers and vision scientists. Following the introduction, chapters are divided into the following sections: * Wavefront Measurement and Correction * Retinal Imaging Applications * Vision Correction Applications * Design Examples Readers will discover the remarkable proliferation of new applications of wavefront-related technologies developed for the human eye. For example, the book explores how wavefront sensors offer the promise of a new generation of vision correction methods that can deal with higher order aberrations beyond defocus and astigmatism, and how adaptive optics can produce images of the living retina with unprecedented resolution. An appendix includes the Optical Society of America's Standards for Reporting Optical Aberrations. A glossary of terms and a symbol table are also included. Adaptive Optics for Vision Science arms engineers, scientists, clinicians, and students with the basic concepts, engineering tools, and techniques needed to master adaptive optics applications in vision science and ophthalmology. Moreover, readers will discover the latest thinking and findings from the leading innovators in the field.

Book Digital Color Imaging Handbook

Download or read book Digital Color Imaging Handbook written by Gaurav Sharma and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 845 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital technology now enables unparalleled functionality and flexibility in the capture, processing, exchange, and output of color images. But harnessing its potential requires knowledge of color science, systems, processing algorithms, and device characteristics-topics drawn from a broad range of disciplines. One can acquire the requisite background with an armload of physics, chemistry, engineering, computer science, and mathematics books and journals- or one can find it here, in the Digital Color Imaging Handbook. Unprecedented in scope, this handbook presents, in a single concise and authoritative publication, the elements of these diverse areas relevant to digital color imaging. The first three chapters cover the basics of color vision, perception, and physics that underpin digital color imaging. The remainder of the text presents the technology of color imaging with chapters on color management, device color characterization, digital halftoning, image compression, color quantization, gamut mapping, computationally efficient transform algorithms, and color image processing for digital cameras. Each chapter is written by world-class experts and largely self-contained, but cross references between chapters reflect the topics' important interrelations. Supplemental materials are available for download from the CRC Web site, including electronic versions of some of the images presented in the book.
