Book High Power Lasers and Applications

Download or read book High Power Lasers and Applications written by K.-L. Kompa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The High-Power Lasers and Applications Conference was held in Munich, June 20 - 22, 1977. The conference took place simultaneously with the "Laser 77, International Congress and Trade Fair" at the Munich Fair Ground. The meeting was a continuation of a series of colloquia on elec tronic transition lasers previously held in the United States. The main topics of the conference were: high-power VUV, UV, visible and IR la sers, including an analysis of laser systems, technology and laser con cepts. Also, some applications to nonlinear optics, chemical kinetics and spectroscopy, particularly with respect to isotope separation, were discussed. The conference was attended by 95 scientists representing Austria, Canada, England, Finland, Germany (FRG), Germany (GDR), France, Israel, Italy, The Netherlands, and the U.S.A. The organizers acknowledge financial support from the Deutsche Forschungs gemeinschaft, the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the U.S. Air Force European Office of Aerospace Research and Development (EOARD) and the U.S. Army European Research Office, as well as from the companies Coherent Radiation, Spectra Physics and Cryophysics. Furthermore, we thank our colleagues Dr. Steven N. Suchard and Professor Jeffrey I. Steinfeld for coordinating the U.S. contribution to the conference. We are grateful to Frau Maischberger for administrative assistance.

Book Resonantly Enhanced Method for Generation of Tunable Coherent Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiation

Download or read book Resonantly Enhanced Method for Generation of Tunable Coherent Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiation written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbon Monoxide vapor is used to generate coherent, tunable vacuum ultraviolet radiation by third-harmonic generation using a single tunable dye laser. The presence of a nearby electronic level resonantly enhances the nonlinear susceptibility of this molecule allowing efficient generation of the vuv light at modest pump laser intensities, thereby reducing the importance of a six-photon multiple-photon ionization process which is also resonantly enhanced by the same electronic level but to higher order. By choosing the pump radiation wavelength to be of shorter wavelength than individual vibronic levels used to extend tunability stepwise from 154.4 to 124.6 nm, and the intensity to be low enough, multiple-photon ionization can be eliminated. Excitation spectra of the third-harmonic emission output exhibit shifts to shorter wavelength and broadening with increasing CO pressure due to phase matching effects. Increasing the carbon monoxide pressure, therefore, allows the substantial filling in of gaps arising from the stepwise tuning thereby providing almost continuous tunability over the quoted range of wavelength emitted.

Book Coherent Extreme Ultraviolet Generation and Surface Studies Using Ultraviolet Excimer Lasers

Download or read book Coherent Extreme Ultraviolet Generation and Surface Studies Using Ultraviolet Excimer Lasers written by Charles K. Rhodes and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this research program is the development of coherent X-ray sources is the kilovolt range. An initial application of short wavelength radiation in the vacuum ultraviolet region for photoemission studies of GaHz surfaces has been performed demonstrating the feasibility of this class of experiments. A basic and long-standing problem in the field of coherent sources is that associated with the generation of coherent energy in the extreme ultraviolet and soft x-ray regions. During the last three years, picosecond rare gas halogen (RGH) excimert laser technology, on account of the very favorable scaling relationships governing the spectral brightness of these sources, has emerged as a key factor in new techniques useful for generation of coherent radiation below 100 nm. The operation of RGH systems will be extended down into the femtosecond region, a development that will enable sources with peak powers P in the 1TW
