Book Generalizing Concepts and Methods of Verification Validation and Accreditation VV A for Military Simulations

Download or read book Generalizing Concepts and Methods of Verification Validation and Accreditation VV A for Military Simulations written by Paul K. Davis and published by . This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study on verification, validation, and accreditation (VV & A) seeks, for military models and simulations, to (1) provide a simple and realistic framework for modelers, analysts, managers, and recipients of analysis; (2) address important complications that have received too little attention in the past (e.g., evaluation of knowledge-based models such as those representing command-and-control decisions and other behaviors); and (3) discuss how modern model-building technology is changing the way we should develop models and conduct VV & A. The study illustrates many of its suggestions about VV & A with specific examples of language that might be used in reports and accreditation reviews. It sketches elements of advanced modeling and analysis environments that would make such work easier.

Book Generalizing Concepts and Methods of Verification Validation and Accreditation VV A for Military Simulations

Download or read book Generalizing Concepts and Methods of Verification Validation and Accreditation VV A for Military Simulations written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was developed for the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO), which is under the Director, Defense Research and Engineering. It reflects discussions of the DMSO's Applications and Methodology Working Group, chaired by the author during this work. The study also draws upon discussions at two special meetings on verification, validation, and accreditation (VV & A) sponsored by the Military Operations Research Society (MORS) on October 15-18, 1990, and March 31 - April 2, 1992. VV & A is a difficult subject on which there is a broad range of opinions and practices (for example, VV & A of software used in space probes is different from VV & A of military simulations used for analysis). At the same time, a considerable convergence of view appears to be taking place and it is hoped that this study will accelerate that process. Comments and suggestions are therefore especially welcome. They can be sent by electronic mail to Paul_Davis.

Book The Handbook of Operator Fatigue

Download or read book The Handbook of Operator Fatigue written by Gerald Matthews and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue is a recognized problem in many facets of the human enterprise. It is not confined to any one area of activity but enters all situations in which humans have to perform for extended intervals of time. Most problematic are the circumstances in which obligatory action is continuous and the results of failure are evidently serious or even catastrophic. Therefore, the modern media especially highlights fatigue-related failures in industries such as transportation, materials processing and healthcare. It can be, and indeed is, no coincidence that most of the spectacular failures in process control that have resulted in the world's largest industrial accidents have occurred in the small hours of the morning when the circadian rhythm is lowest and operator fatigue itself peaks. While there have been legislative efforts made at state, federal and international levels to regulate working hours of employees, the appropriate implementation of such legislation is still a long way off. The Handbook of Operator Fatigue provides a comprehensive account of the subject to serve as the definitive reference work for researchers, students and practitioners alike. The volume features 30 chapters written by experts from around the world to address each important facet of fatigue, including: the scale of the fatigue problem (Section I), the nature of fatigue (Section II), how to assess fatigue (Section III), the impact of fatigue on health (Section IV), fatigue in the workplace (Section V), the neurological basis of fatigue (VI), sleep disorders (VII), and the design of countermeasures to fatigue (VIII).

Book A Guide for Analysis Using Advanced Distributed Simulation ADS

Download or read book A Guide for Analysis Using Advanced Distributed Simulation ADS written by Thomas Lucas and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 1997 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this report is to assist those in the vanguard of using Advanced Distributed Simulation (ADS) for analysis. The report discusses a broad range of issues critical to successful ADS supported analyses. Major topic areas include potential ADS analysis strengths and weaknesses, the role ADS might play within a broader analysis strategy, experimental design, exercise preparation and management, and post-exercise analysis. Because it is impossible to comprehensively treat all of these subjects, we emphasize the breadth of analysis issues over depth in their coverage with references to more detailed resources. Furthermore, the depth of coverage is highly variable. The greatest detail is provided on the roles of ADS in the analysis process and in experimental design.

Book Toward a Verification Validation and Accreditation VV A Ontology

Download or read book Toward a Verification Validation and Accreditation VV A Ontology written by Curtis Blais and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Department of Defense (DoD) Modeling and Simulation Steering Committee (M & S SC) is sponsoring several Acquisition Modeling and Simulation (M & S) Projects. One of those projects is titled, "Standardized Documentation for Verification, Validation, and Accreditation (VV & A)." Previous efforts defined standardized content and format requirements (i.e., templates) for four core VV & A documents, now codified in a new Military Standard (MIL-STD-3022) and associated Data Item Descriptions. A tool is under development to automate those templates to assist developers in creating standardized VV & A information across the DoD and Military Departments. In support of this effort, the Naval Postgraduate School was tasked to specify data structures and content using the Extensible Markup Language (XML) for metadata and content of VV & A documentation. Based on the initial work, NPS was further tasked to design and develop an ontological foundation for formal description of VV & A information. This document describes preliminary work toward development of an ontology for VV & A that will facilitate future search, discovery, and processing of VV & A information to better meet user needs.
