Book excerpt: Excerpt from General Crop Report as of April 1, 1939 Wheat: Farm stocks of all wheat on farms April 1 are estimated to be bushels compared with bushels a.ysar ago, and bushels the 10 - year (1928 - 37) average. The April 1 stocks were the largest since 1926, the earliest available record. The indicated disappearance of all wheat from farm stocks between January 1 and April 1 was bushels compared with bushels for the same period a year ago and bushels the 10 - year (1928-37) average. April 1 farm holdings of wheat by classes amounted to approximately bushels of hard red winter, bushels of soft red winter, bushels of hard red spring, bushels of white (both winter and spring), and bushels of durum. Corn stocks: April 1 stocks of corn on farms are estimated at bushels. Present stocks are the highest of any April 1 since 1926 when April 1 estimates of stocks were first made. These stocks exceed by 4 percent the previous high of bushels on April 1, 1933 and by over 60 percent the 10 - year (1928 - 37) average of bushels. The large stocks this year follow last year's above average April 1 stocks of bushels. For the Corn Belt as a Whole, Government loans reported to April 5 represent over 20 percent of the total April 1 farm stocks in that area. In a number of the Corn Belt States over one-fourth of the April 1 farm stocks are represented by Government loans. The disappearance of farm stocks from January 1 to April 1 this year amounted to bushels com pared with bushels for the same period in 1938 and bushels, the 10 - year (1928 - 37) average. Book excerpt: Excerpt from General Crop Report as of June 1, 1938 Grasses and_clovers started early and.were growing well on the first of the month, and, as there is an abundance of water in most of the irrigated alfalfa sections of the West, at least a fair hay crop for the country as a whole seems assured. If yields of late varieties of hay are not ex ensively reduced.by a rew currence of drought, the total supply of hay will be fully as large in propertion to numbers of hayeconsuming livestock as the average supply in pro-drought years, and substantially larger than in any year since 1929. Book excerpt: Excerpt from General Crop Report as of May 1, 1941 Winter wheat has been favored and conditions on May 1 indicated a crop of about 653 million bushels. This would be fewer bushels than were harvested in 1937 and 1938 but more than were harvested in 25 of the last 30 years. The acreage abandoned is expected to be less than in any year since 1931 and the yield per seeded acre the highest since that year. Rye prospects on May 1 were fairly promising in all States suggesting a good, but not exceptional. Yield on an acreage slightly above average. And a total crop about 12 percent above that harvested last year. Oats look promising through out the South. This book was released on 2018-09-09 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from General Crop Report as of May 1, 1942 Pastures and ranges have a good start in most States and on May 1 were reported in better condition than on May 1 in any of the past ten years except last year. With numbers of producing livestock and poultry above or approaching previous peaks, and large reserves of grain and hay on hand, the production of livestock and livestock products seems likely to continue outstandingly heavy for some time. During April milk production was 4 percent above production in April last year and with 14 per cent more hens egg production was up about 17 percent. Forecasts for individual creps can be only approximations this early in the season but no signs of shortage have appeared and fairly heavy production of most groups of creps still seems the most probable outcome. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from General Crop Report as of November 1, 1939 Pending completion of the fall cheek - up of acreages harvested, exact allowance for loss of acreage cannot be made, but present indicae tions are that the total acreage for all crops harvested was between 3 and 4 percent less than the total last year and lower than in any recent season except the drought years, 1934 and 1936. Yields per acre har vested ln 1939 now seem likely to average slightly higher than in 1938 and 1920 and substantially higher than in any other recar _t years, except 1937. Crop yields per acre this yea r were unusually gnod in the central and eastern Corn Belt but were seriously reduced by drought tfrom southern North Dakota and eastern Wyoming southward hrougr central Texase Another area of low yields extends from the Gulf into Alabama and northeastern Mississippi. Because of the dry fall, additional precipitation is now needed by winter grains over a large part of the Mississippi basin and also east of the Cascades in Washington and Oregon. From central Nebraska southward'into Oklahoma, the need has been urgent. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
