Book excerpt: John Holloway (ca. 1666-1734) immigrated from London, England to Maryland and then moved to York County, Virginia. He served in the House of Bergesses for several counties and towns, although he only lived in York County (Virginia allowed this, as a colony), and even came to be Speaker of the House. He was probably a great-nephew of George Holloway, who immigrated about 1635 from England to York County. Descendants and relatives of John lived in Virginia, Washington, D.C., South Carolina and elsewhere. Includes some family history and genealogy in England to the late 1300s; some of this ancestry spelled the surname as Halloway.

Book Poquoson Families Volume II

Download or read book Poquoson Families Volume II written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume will be of great interest to anyone with Poquoson, York County, Virginia ancestors, and to any library, society or archive that collects Virginia related material. This work greatly expands on the Holloway, Messick and Linton chapters of the Poquoson Watermen (pub. 1988). The Holloway family came to the Jamestown Colony in the 1620s, and eventually settled in what is now Poquoson, (then) York County, Virginia. The Messick and Linton families came before the War of 1812. Every census record from 1790 to 1910 known to pertain to these Poquoson families has been abstracted and cited. The current volume brings each family from its earliest mention in the colonial era down to the present. Many female lines have been followed for one or more generations. The text is well illustrated with early photographs and includes a bibliography and an index of every individual known to be related by birth or marriage to the families studied in this volume. Most of the family photographs in this volume have never before been published. This is Mr. Willett's seventh volume of family history, and his fourth volume on the Messick area of Poquoson, York County, Virginia. Mr. Willett is related to most of the Poquoson families through his maternal Martin and Hopkins ancestors; he is a family history researcher and recognized authority on the Willett surname and on his maternal families of Poquoson, York County, Virginia.

Book The Families of Northern Moore County Abstract of Miscellaneous and Rare Records

Download or read book The Families of Northern Moore County Abstract of Miscellaneous and Rare Records written by Morgan Jackson and published by . This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moore County, NC has long been a challenging place to do genealogical research, even more so if your family lived in Northern Moore County. Due to the immense loss of records in the 1889 Moore County courthouse fire combined with Northern Moore's large mix of Scotch-Irish, German, Swiss, English and other settlers who often kept to themselves and left very little evidence behind - genealogical and historical research on these families generally leaves researchers with no shortage of dead ends, brick walls and ancestors who disappear into genealogical black holes. With this series, Morgan Jackson (www.MooreCountyWallaces.com) seeks to shine a light on these families and piece together the records that survived the fire and the test of time. Utilizing over thirty years of personal research and a multitude of information from numerous sources, he abstracts rare and hard to find land grants, deeds, church records, school records, wills, estates, tax lists, pension records, family bibles, newspaper accounts and court records. This second volume abstracts thousands of these records in a timeline format dating from 1831-1929 including several hundred images and hard to find maps. A full name index includes over 11,000 individuals and over 900 place names.
