As the Secretary observed: "I think it should be clear that our all volunteer force, a force that has produced the best military in the world, cannot meet its obligations without the continued strong contribution of men and women working together. It should also be clear that training is the key to an effective and ready force." On December 16, 1997, the Federal Advisory Committee reported a wide range of recommend Senator Kassebaum Baker characterized the Federal Advisory Committee's report as a comprehensive package, which included recommendations concerning recruitment as well as suggestions for improving the training of men and women entering the Services. Book Report of the Federal Advisory Committee on Gender Integrated Training and Related Issues to the Secretary of Defense

Download or read book Report of the Federal Advisory Committee on Gender Integrated Training and Related Issues to the Secretary of Defense written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The military services are currently going through an historic transition period. With the end of the Cold War, the United States is redefining its threats and the services are revising their missions to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The downsizing of our forces over the past ten years from 2.2 million to 1.4 million active-duty service members, combined with the advances in technology, are changing how and when America defends its interests. The demographics of the all-volunteer force have also been undergoing a major transition. Since 1972, when women comprised about 2 percent of the military, the number of women has increased in the total force to about 13.5 percent and recent policy changes have opened up more than 260,000 new positions for women. These significant changes and trends are requiring adjustments to how today's recruits are trained. There is no more valuable military resource than its personnel, making training, indisputably, a top priority. It is the committee's intention, during this time of transition, to contribute to the effort to craft a sound policy for training our young men and women today for tomorrow's missions.

Book Basic Training Services are Using a Variety of Approaches to Gender Integration

Download or read book Basic Training Services are Using a Variety of Approaches to Gender Integration written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report reviews enlisted basic training to determine the (1) extent to which the services are conducting gender-integrated basic training; (2) changes that were made to accommodate this training and the cost of the changes; (3) pass/fail rates (or other measures of performance) for gender-integrated basic training compared with those for segregated training; and (4) training regimen, results, and issues related to the current gender-integrated basic training compared with the Army's previous experiences with gender-integrated basic training. Women have traditionally played a role in the military services. In recent years, many more career fields have opened to women, and their assignment opportunities have considerably expanded. In the past, all of the services had different programs for basic training for men and women and conducted the training for the two groups separately. More recently, however, the services have adjusted their philosophy of basic training for women and now have programs more closely aligned with those of the men. During fiscal year 1995, the services trained 179,068 recruits-18 percent of whom were women. Women comprised 18 percent of the 75,616 basic training graduates in the Army, 20 percent of the 40,813 graduates in the Navy, 24 percent of the 30,515 graduates in the Air Force, and 5 percent of the 32,124 graduates in the Marine Corps.

This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the training module is to provide learners with a better understanding of what the gender roles in CSA are and their critical impact on project outcomes and sustainability. The training will teach them about different methods and tools to identify, formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate gender-responsive actions and practices in CSA development projects. Through the training, learners will become familiar with the main concepts of gender, climate change and climate-smart agr iculture. They will also understand the relevance of gender dimensions in climate change adaptation and mitigation and in developing gender-responsive CSA interventions. Furthermore, they will learn the steps to take and tools and approaches available for conducting gender analysis and promoting gender mainstreaming in CSA project design, implementation and monitoring. The manual also presents available gender, climate change and CSA guidelines and other relevant materials to support learners in their work in implementing gender-responsive interventions. This training module provides basic information for organizing a short training workshop to develop gender mainstreaming capacities in CSA-related projects, throughout the whole project cycle. The module mainly focuses on activities in the field. It is important to recognize, however, that gender-responsive CSA development also requires actions at the institutional and policy level as well as changes in the existing social and cultura l norms. The module also provides some recommendations for better integration of gender issues in governments’ CSA policies and strategies.
