Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Otoacoustic Emissions: Principles, Procedures, and Protocols, Second Edition is a readable yet comprehensive source of information on otoacoustic emissions (OAEs). OAEs now play an important role in hearing screening and the clinical assessment of children and adults. The text begins with a succinct overview of OAEs and a historical description of their discovery and emergence as a clinical tool. Otoacoustic Emissions distills in 10 chapters the latest information on OAEs from basic research to clinical applications. The book is concise, but comprehensive, and covers the essentials of the subject from innovative and up-to-date perspectives. The second edition features updates across all chapters, including current research findings and changing perspectives on OAE taxonomy. Important information is highlighted with new and updated illustrations throughout the book. The material covered in the book is appropriate for intermediate and advanced students, and ideal for practicing audiologists. With a focus on practical information needed by the clinical audiologist and an eye to technological developments, authors Dhar and Hall provide an up-to-date, straightforward, and clinically focused source of information on OAEs.

Book Characterizing the 2f1 f2 Distortion product Otoacoustic Emission and Its Generators Measured from 2 to 20 KHz in Humans

Download or read book Characterizing the 2f1 f2 Distortion product Otoacoustic Emission and Its Generators Measured from 2 to 20 KHz in Humans written by Laura Elizabeth Dreisbach and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cochlea produces recordable acoustic energy (otoacoustic emissions). These otoacoustic emissions occur spontaneously or can be evoked. Distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) are produced by the intermodulation between the primary stimulus tones (f2 > f1) and occur at frequencies not present in the evoking acoustic stimuli. The 2f1-f2 DPOAE is well characterized for frequencies less than 8 kHz in humans; however, most basilar membrane measurements in animals have been made at higher frequencies. Thus, DPOAE measurements were extended to the higher frequency range of human hearing. High-frequency DPOAEs were characterized by how the DPOAE level varied with primary frequency separations (f2/f1) and stimulus levels and how the group delay estimate of the DPOAE varied with primary frequency. It was concluded that high-frequency DPOAEs continued the patterns seen for low-frequency DPOAEs, indicating that high-frequency DPOAEs are the result of the same biological process responsible for low-frequency DPOAEs.

Book excerpt: A new edition of a best-selling text with a CD-ROM by Dr. David Kemp The new edition of the best-selling Otoacoustic Emissions: Clinical Applications provides a thorough review of the complex physiology of the ear and clinical applications of the latest research on otoacoustic emissions. The book features new chapters on such important topics as middle ear function enhanced by reflectance measurements and the use of otoacoustic emissions as a preclinical measure of susceptibility to hearing loss. Accompanying the book is a CD-ROM developed by Dr. David Kemp, Ph.D., which contains animations, movies, and interviews. The CD-ROM serves as an indispensable aid to both teaching and reviewing key concepts. From physiological phenomena to diagnostic and clinical applications, this book is a complete reference on otoacoustic emissions that will provide graduates in audiology and residents in otolaryngology and otology with all the essential information needed for research and professional practice.
