Book excerpt: Scientific Study from the year 2016 in the subject Psychology - Work, Business, Organisation, , language: English, abstract: The job environment is one of the most important aspects of today's world and may cause a great deal of stress. Due to the competitive nature of the job environment, most people in the world are spending their time on job-related work purposes, ignoring the work and life balance. Talking about gender differences at the workplace, is it correct to say that female workers have a dual duty and thus more stress as compared to their male counterparts? Teaching is a respectful profession. In teaching, female employment is stronger than male. The present paper studies and compares organizational role stress in college teachers in terms of gender. For the investigation, the author questioned 200 college teachers (100 male + 100 female) from different colleges of Patiala district. The findings showed that there is no significant difference in the level of organizational role stress of male and female college teachers.

Book Gender and University Teaching

Download or read book Gender and University Teaching written by Anne Statham and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1991-09-10 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines university teaching from several perspectives: What male and female professors do in the classroom, their perceptions and feelings about teaching, and how students respond. Data were gathered by observing professors in their classrooms, doing selected unstructured interviews, and soliciting evaluations/feedback from their students. This triangulation of data provides a richness of information and insight into the process of university teaching. In addition to providing useful feedback to professors and administrators, this study integrates several social psychological approaches to gender with more recent feminist formulations. The findings support recently developed perspectives which argue that gender is a constantly created social phenomenon, not one cast securely in the concrete of social structure.

Book Gender Differences in Work Stress Related to Organizational Conflicts and Organizational Constrains

Download or read book Gender Differences in Work Stress Related to Organizational Conflicts and Organizational Constrains written by Amalia Stafyla and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In modern era, stress at workplace is a component of employees' and organizations' daily routine. The current research intends to study the gender differences as far as the ways that stress is witnessed in the workplace is concerned. Participants in this study were 231 Greek adults, employed at various workplaces. During their working hours they were asked to fill in a questionnaire which contained two different measurement scales. The main hypothesis was that men would show interpersonal conflicts at workplace to a larger extent; also that both men and women would not be so different on stress that stems from organizational constraints. The research findings did not confirm all the research hypotheses, because men were found to express their stress at a larger extent through interpersonal conflicts with their colleagues as a result of organizational constraints. The research data on the different stress manifestations at workplace are in accord with the relevant bibliography. Finally, this study contributes to the empirical support of the existence of gender differences in stress manifestations at workplace, even though the questionnaire that was used was no validated in Greece.

Book Organizational Stress Around the World

Download or read book Organizational Stress Around the World written by Kajal A. Sharma and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-01-28 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stress is defined as a feeling experienced when a person perceives that demands exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilize. It can occur due to environmental issues, such as a looming work deadline, or psychological, for example, persistent worry about familial problems. While the acute response to life-threatening circumstances can be life-saving, research reveals that the body’s stress response is largely similar when it reacts to less threatening but chronically present stressors such as work overload, deadline pressures and family conflicts. It is proffered that chronic activation of stress response in the body can lead to several pathological changes such as elevated blood pressure, clogging of blood vessels, anxiety, depression, and addiction. Organizational Stress Around the World: Research and Practice aims to present a sound theoretical and empirical basis for understanding the evolving and changing nature of stress in contemporary organizations. It presents research that expands theory and practice by addressing real-world issues, across cultures and by providing multiple perspectives on organizational stress and research relevant to different occupational settings and cultures. Personal, occupational, organizational, and societal issues relevant to stress identification along with management techniques/approach to confront stress and its associated problems at individual and organizational level are also explored. It will be of value to researchers, academics, practitioners, and students interested in stress management research.

There are a lot of challenges which the growing psychological face in the realms of basic necessities in life. Psychological thoughts can play a very distinct role in bringing about this change. One of the key objectives of research should be its usability and application. Book Women and Leadership at Bettendorf College

Download or read book Women and Leadership at Bettendorf College written by Leslie L. Trainor and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even though Bettendorf College's student body consists of a roughly even number of women and men, women have been chronically underrepresented in the Student Council. Bettendorf College has an Advisory Committee, which is a similar student group with similar scope and influence, that has a roughly even number of female and male student members. Prospective Student Council Officers are required to engage in a substantial amount of self-promoting behavior to campaign for election, whereas prospective members of the Advisory Committee are not. Research on stereotypes and gender roles indicates that women and men tend to be expected to behave differently regarding self-promoting behaviors. Many of Bettendorf's organizational practices pertaining to campaigning and election onto the Student Council were designed to accommodate what was historically an all-male student body and do not consider these gender differences. The Dean of Student Affairs has tasked a staff member in his office with describing the underlying reason(s) for the chronic underrepresentation of women on the Student Council, determining if the underrepresentation has an adverse effect on students, and recommending whether Bettendorf College should implement any changes to address the issue.
