Book Research Anthology on Bilingual and Multilingual Education

Download or read book Research Anthology on Bilingual and Multilingual Education written by Management Association, Information Resources and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-10-29 with total page 1656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the boost in global immigration and migration, as well as the emphasis on creating inclusive classrooms, research is turning to the challenges that teachers face with the increasing need for bilingual and multilingual education. The benefits of bilingual education are widespread, allowing students to develop important cognitive skills such as critical thinking and problem solving as well as opening further career opportunities later in life. However, very few resources are available for the successful practice and implementation of this education into the curriculum, with an even greater lack of appropriate cultural representation in the classroom. Thus, it is essential for educators to remain knowledgeable on the emerging strategies and procedures available for making bilingual and multilingual education successful. The Research Anthology on Bilingual and Multilingual Education is a comprehensive reference source on bilingual and multilingual education that offers the latest insights on education strategy and considerations on the language learners themselves. This research anthology features a diverse collection of authors, offering valuable global perspectives on multilingual education. Covering topics such as gamification, learning processes, and teaching models, this anthology serves as an essential resource for professors, teachers, pre-service teachers, faculty of K-12 and higher education, government officials, policymakers, researchers, and academicians with an interest in key strategy and understanding of bilingual and multilingual education.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Policies and Practices for Teaching Sociocultural Diversity

Download or read book Policies and Practices for Teaching Sociocultural Diversity written by Anne-Lise Arnesen and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Future teachers require specific training on democratic culture and social cohesion. By focusing on reflective thinking, training can enable them to situate themselves in diverse environments, develop a clearer sense of their ethnic and cultural identities and examine attitudes to different groups. Improving diversity management at school in Europe begins with initial teacher training establishments. This book is designed to provide a basis to help ensure that the needs of future teachers in this regard are met. It puts forward 18 "diversity competences" that were identified by a team of European specialists in teacher training between 2006 and 2009. In order to open up the debate on competences, four consultation sessions were organised in Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Estonia. These sessions provided an opportunity to discuss these competences with key players (civil servants, government representatives, teacher trainers, head teachers, researchers, teachers and students) from a national and topic-based perspective

Book Reflexionen zu Mehrsprachigkeit und Sprachidentit t

Download or read book Reflexionen zu Mehrsprachigkeit und Sprachidentit t written by Inga Christiana Eckardt and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2024-01-29 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Focus on Evidence

Download or read book Focus on Evidence written by Heiner Böttger and published by Narr Francke Attempto Verlag. This book was released on 2016-06-13 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Diaspora Language Contact

Download or read book Diaspora Language Contact written by Jim Hlavac and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-10-25 with total page 707 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an innovative contribution to contact linguistics as it presents a rarely studied but sizeable diaspora language community in contact with five languages – English, German, Italian, Norwegian and Spanish – across four continents. Foregrounded by diachronic descriptions of heritage Croatian in long-standing minority communities the book presents synchronically based studies of the speech of different generations of diaspora speakers. Croatian offers excellent scope as a base language to examine how lexical and morpho-structural innovations occur in a highly inflective Slavic language where external influence from Germanic and Romance languages appears evident. The possibility of internal factors is also addressed and interpretive models of language change are drawn on. With a foreword by Sarah Thomason, University of Michigan

Book Heteroglossia as Practice and Pedagogy

Download or read book Heteroglossia as Practice and Pedagogy written by Adrian Blackledge and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-17 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents evidence about how we understand communication in changing times, and proposes that such understandings may contribute to the development of pedagogy for teaching and learning. It expands current debates on multilingualism, asking which signs are in use and in action, and what are their social, political, and historical implications. The volume’s starting-point is Bakhtin’s ‘heteroglossia’, a key concept in understanding the tensions, conflicts, and multiple voices within, among, and between those signs. The chapters provide illuminating accounts of language practices as they bring into play, both in practice and in pedagogy, voices which index students’ localities, social histories, circumstances, and identities. The book documents the performance of linguistic repertoires in an era of profound social change caused by the shifting nature of nation-states, increased movement of people across territories, and growing digital communication. “Our thinking on language and multilingualism is expanding rapidly. Up until recently we have tended to regard languages as bounded entities, and multilingualism has been understood as knowing more than one language. Working with the concept of heteroglossia, researchers are developing alternative perspectives that treat languages as sets of resources for expressing meaning that can be drawn on by speakers in communicatively productive ways in different contexts. These perspectives raise fundamental questions about the myriad of ways of knowing and using language(s). This collection brings together the contributions of many of the key researchers in the field. It will provide an authoritative reference point for contemporary interpretations of ‘heteroglossia’ and valuable accounts of how ‘translanguaging’ can be explored and exploited in the fields of education and cultural studies.” Professor Constant Leung, King’s College London, UK. "From rap and hip hop to taxi cabs, and from classrooms to interactive online learning environments, each of the chapters in this volume written by well-known and up-and-coming scholars provide fascinating accounts drawing on a wide diversity of rich descriptive data collected in heteroglossic contexts around the globe. Creese and Blackledge have brought together a compelling collection that builds upon and expands Bakhtin’s construct of heteroglossia. These scholars help to move the field away from the view of languages as separate bounded system by providing detailed examples and expert analyses of the ways bilinguals and multilinguals draw upon their linguistic repertoires for effective and meaningful communication." Wayne E. Wright, University of Texas at San Antonio, USA.
