Book Geiger Counter Technique for High Counting Rates

Download or read book Geiger Counter Technique for High Counting Rates written by and published by . This book was released on 1946 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronic technique is described for extending the upper limit of counting rates with Geiger Mueller counters from the usual maximum of about 2500 counts per second to roughly 100,000 counts per second. A theory is proposed to explain the counting process at these high rates and the observed dependence of resolving power on counting rate. The contents of the report include details of the design of a double pulse generator working down to separations of about 0.3 microseconds, and a scaling circuit capable of resolving about 1 megacycle per second of periodic pulses. The latter unit may have application to other experiments, for example, time measurement in ballistics problems.

Book Nuclear Experiments Using A Geiger Counter

Download or read book Nuclear Experiments Using A Geiger Counter written by John Iovine and published by John Iovine. This book was released on 2020-02-17 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illustrates a variety of nuclear experiments one can perform using a Geiger Counter. The experiments teach the fundamentals of nuclear science and particle physics. Beginning with an introduction to ionizing radiation and Geiger counters. The book explains the different types of radiation Geiger counters can detect and measure. The book explains the functions and reading available from the Geiger counter. How to read CPS and CPM measurements and use PC graphing software. The first experiment is on measuring background radiation. How to calculate the mean and standard deviation of the background radiation. The second experiment continues on to the Poisson distribution. Other experiments illustrate the difference between alpha, beta, x-ray and gamma radiation, shielding for radiation, detecting radioactivity in food, detecting radon in a closed environment, inverse square law, deflecting beta particles using magnetic and more.

Book Geiger Counter Technique

Download or read book Geiger Counter Technique written by and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive investigation of counters and counting circuits was initiated for the purpose of developing counters with ultimate sensitivity and capable of meeting the requirements of high speed counting. The counting process is discussed, the construction and preparation of counter are explained, and methods of obtaining high resolution and sensitivity are given. A description is given of the most important circuits for counting, and the conditions under which they are employed. The investigation resulted in new designs for gamma ray and hard X-ray counters having quantum counting efficiencies up to 50%. Soft X-ray counting efficiencies of 100% were obtained. A new principle of counter construction resulted in resolving powers up to 100,000 random counts per second, as compared with the previous maximum of 3000.

Filled with practical examples of applying patterns to IT research with an emphasis on reusing research activities to save time and money, this book describes design science research in relation to other information systems research paradigms such as positivist and interpretivist research.

Book High Sensitivity Counting Techniques

Download or read book High Sensitivity Counting Techniques written by D. E. Watt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-16 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Series of Monographs on Electronics and Instrumentation, Volume 20: High Sensitivity Counting Techniques details the low background counting techniques for radiation detection. The book covers various areas of concerns in utilizing low background counting technique. The text first details the counting parameters, and then proceeds to discussing the attainment of low backgrounds in radiation detectors. Next, the selection deals with low background laboratories. The remaining chapters cover various quantification methods such as carbon-14 beta counting; counting of soft radiations using internal sources; and measurement of gamma radioactivity from the body. The book will be of great interest to scientists, engineers, and technicians involved in atomic energy projects.
