Readers asked the author many times, "What about Pete?" Pete is the brother of Delbert Johnson, Lisa's grandfather, and the man that murdered her brother Billy. Lisa referred to him as 'the man' as she did not know who he was. He is now in prison, serving a life sentence with no parole. Before he was arrested, he, Pete, and Angela tried to abduct and silence Lisa because she knew he had murdered her brother Billy. Delbert and Angela were caught and arrested before that could happen. Starting in the sequel; now that Delbert is in prison, Pete is determined to get his brother out of prison. He concludes that the only way to achieve this is to abduct Lisa and not only hold her but threaten to kill her if Delbert is not released. Pete knew he could not accomplish this alone, so he hired three thugs to help him. Unbeknownst to him, one of the so-called thugs would be a guardian angel for Lisa. Pete made calls, letting Gary and his family know he was after her. Lisa and Sam went to a Valentine's dance at his school. They were chosen the Valentine's Sweethearts and were given gift cards to the theater and for dinner at a local favorite. A few weeks later, Lisa and Sam chose a movie and a favorite restaurant where they would eat before the movie. Gary and Bill, Sam's father, accompanied them to see to their safety. However, danger lurks; Lisa and Sam were both caught in the abduction. They were held in a cabin belonging to their guardian in the bayous of Louisiana. The detectives, with the help of others, closed in and rescued Lisa and Sam. Ten years forward found Lisa and Sam in different universities. Lisa runs into a long-lost friend and is excited to spend some time with her. During their years in school, Lisa's relationship with Sam continues to move forward; there is a wedding to plan and a surprise honeymoon. New adventures in the field they have chosen and an unexpected visit from the past causes Lisa and Sam to rush home. And life goes on.

Teaming up with his new girlfriend, Yvette Truque, a snarky local reporter, Steve Malarkey, and his ex-Mob enforcer relative, Uncle Louie, Harry must wade through a web of lies, deceptions and attacks- tossed overboard from the local ferry, a hit-and-run while bicycling, and attacked by ‘gator attack in Florida - to recover Ian’s money in time to keep Ginny and her two kid from being evicted from their home. Book Home on the Double Bayou

Download or read book Home on the Double Bayou written by Ralph Semmes Jackson and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once again, through a boy's eyes, Ralph Jackson sees a winter sky darkened with geese and ducks, a kitchen stove glowing with cheerful warmth, Aunt May strolling in her flower garden, moonlight filtering through treetops to cast patches of white light on a sandy woodland road. Again he catches odors once so familiar: of a mysterious attic, of burning salt grass in late summer, of mountain streams with their fresh green smell, of dark-roast coffee and of slab bacon sizzling in the pan. He hears again a panther's scream from the darkness surrounding a campfire, the scampering of mice across the barnloft floor, the sigh of a felled pine tree changing to a crashing roar as it meets the ground, the sounds of a meal in preparation, the hum of a mosquito swarm rising from the marshes. He remembers the taste of barbecued goat, the sweet sharpness of peppermint candy, the flavor of gumdrops from the country store—where, as showcase neighbors of cigars and chewing tobacco, they acquired a faint tobacco taste. And he feels again the welcome shock of frigid spring water on a hot perspiring body, the pleasant sensation of sand between his toes, the breathtaking exhilaration of swinging on a sapling top. The joy of childhood on an East Texas ranch is the subject of this book: exciting events like the arrival of the first norther of the season, swimming with alligators, hogkilling, building tree houses, roundup, hunting and fishing, calf-riding, fording strange streams. Interspersed among these episodes are others of darker mood: a smallpox epidemic, the burning of the ranch house, wolves attacking the cattle. Jackson's characters come alive. Scenes are vivid; moods are various and enveloping. The author has told the delightful story of his boyhood from a highly personal yet universal perspective, and in doing so he has presented a picture of a region of the state previously largely neglected in Texas literature.
