Book excerpt: As factory farming continues to dominate food production, a growing movement insists that a hands-on connection to food and the land that produces it cannot be set aside. In Grown & Gathered, Matt and Lentil Purbrick present a sumptuously photographed guide to living alongside nature and returning to an ancient way of life. 365 days of notes from the authors will help you read the environment as the seasons change, and detailed guides to growing plants and raising animals will ensure that you build your farming practice on a stable foundation. True to the ancient way of life the authors seek to rediscover, Grown & Gathered also includes a chapter on the nuances of trading the goods you produce, rather than relying on monetary exchange. Finally, nearly one hundred recipes for everything from staples to full meals offer delicious ways to prepare the food you have produced from the ground up.

Book Freely Gathered Communities of Faith and the Changes between the Testaments

Download or read book Freely Gathered Communities of Faith and the Changes between the Testaments written by M. A. Erickson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-10-18 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we make sense of the seismic shift between the Old and New Testament? From the early centuries of Christianity until today, many have wrestled with the complex changes between the Testaments, and how to make sense of them. The discussion and debate is spilling over into new areas today, and shows no sign of slowing down. In this fresh approach, the land, the sword, and the temple are traced from Old to New Testament, in order to find the central reasons for the tremendous changes that took place, and are still impacting the world today. Freely gathered communities of faith in Christ, as seen in their original setting, provide a key focal point for unlocking the radical changes that took place.

Book Where Two or Three Are Gathered

Download or read book Where Two or Three Are Gathered written by Daniel L. Prechtel and published by Church Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written about the practice of one-to-one spiritual directions, but much less about small group communities that offer in-depth mutual spiritual support and guidance to its members. This book offers a detailed presentation of ten small group models, plus guidance in group leadership dynamics. It also presents material related to group retreat work, spiritual guidance with organizations and peer supervision/consultation model for supporting leaders of spiritual companionship groups and retreats. Church leaders, spiritual directors and educators are looking for the kinds of resources this book provides to assist them in understanding and leading groups and retreats.

Book Gathered in One How the Book of Mormon Counters Anti Semitism in the New Testament

Download or read book Gathered in One How the Book of Mormon Counters Anti Semitism in the New Testament written by Bradley J. Kramer and published by Greg Kofford Books. This book was released on with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the Holocaust, a growing consensus of biblical scholars have come to recognize the unfair and misleading anti-Semitic rhetoric in the New Testament—language that has arguably contributed to centuries of violence and persecution against the Jewish people. In Gathered in One, Bradley J. Kramer shows how the Book of Mormon counters anti-Semitism in the New Testament by approaching this most Christian of books on its own turf and on its own terms: literarily, by providing numerous pro-Jewish statements, portrayals, settings, and structuring devices in opposition to similar anti-Semitic elements in the New Testament; and scripturally, by connecting with it as a peer, as a divine document of equal value and authority, which can add these elements to the Christian canon (as the Gospel of John can add elements to the Gospel of Matthew) without undermining its authority or dependability. In this way, the Book of Mormon effectively “detoxifies” the New Testament of its anti-Semitic poison without weakening its status as scripture and goes far in encouraging Christians to relate to Jews respectfully, not as enemies or opponents, but as allies, people of equal worth, importance, and value before God.

Download or read book Gathered in my Name written by William T. Cavanaugh and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-12-28 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume differs from many quincentennial discussions of the Protestant Reformation—and ecumenical scholarship more generally—in that it shifts the focus from Europe and the West to the global South, where ecumenism’s promises and challenges are quite different. In postcolonial and post-missionary Africa, the churches continue to expand, competition among denominations is lively, and Christian rivalry with Islam is often a reality. In Latin America, Protestants have severely eroded the Catholic Church’s hegemony, originally forged in the zeal of the Counter-Reformation to combat the perceived errors of Luther and Calvin. In India, the Christian churches are a tiny, beleaguered minority facing an increasingly militant Hindu nationalism. These essays pay close attention to the different contexts of intra-Christian relationships worldwide—the actual situation on the ground. If ecumenism will succeed, it cannot be simply a matter of experts at a conference attempting to agree about doctrines abstracted from the contexts in which they were forged, the contexts in which doctrinal disagreements caused ecclesial ruptures, or the contexts in which Christians continue to live out our divided existence. This volume attempts to be sensitive to the lived experience of divided Christians in whatever part of the world they find themselves.

Book All The Killers Gathered

    Book Details:
  • Author : D. Alexander Holiday
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2008-05-05
  • ISBN : 1462801919
  • Pages : 160 pages

Download or read book All The Killers Gathered written by D. Alexander Holiday and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-05-05 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From his very first poem in 1990, D. Alexander Holiday has engaged in an intense form of poetry that might be called Reality Writing. He has dealt with issues both personal (the abandonment and loss of never knowing his own parents), and universal (racism, genocide, imperialism). Now he returns with more poignant poems in which he continues a tradition he began long ago: putting people on trial in the public arena. In this case, the defendants include those who have united against him to prevent him from gaining custody of the granddaughter he was never informed he had – until the death of his own daughter, the little girl’s mother. Together with assorted letters and documents, this body of work tells the often horrifying story of Mr. Holiday’s run-ins with the human race: with the abusive and sadistic foster parents with whom he spent his first 18 years of life, having been abandoned by his mother and father (“Somehow Mama Knew”); with his daughter’s mother (“Ashes to Ashes,” “All the Killers Gathered”); and with co-workers (“Please Tell Massuh,” “How I Am Perceived”). But they also offer a few moments of gentle respite in the form of salutes to comedians whose work got him through the worst of times (“Stop Laughing at Me” and “Final Curtain”). As you read these poems, you will gradually learn of the insidious pattern of betrayal and deceit to which Mr. Holiday has been subjected to since his daughter’s mother packed up their child and moved her back down to New York City when she was still an infant. You will learn why he had no contact with his daughter, whom he loved deeply, for over 10 years – until he learned of her death in a most bizarre manner. And as you read of his conflicts with the human race - the years spent in abusive foster homes, repeated betrayals at the hands of family members, acquaintances, and others - you will marvel at the amazing story of a man who faced utter abandonment and turned to reading and writing instead of drugs, alcohol, or even more destructive forms of catharsis and escape which he might have (understandably) chosen.

Book excerpt: Gems Gathered in Haste by an anonymous editor is a collection of didactic short stories and poetry to instill virtue in listeners at Sunday School. Excerpt: "It is an excellent rule, no doubt, children, not to be in a hurry; and the proverbs, "Take time by the forelock" and "The more haste the worse speed," are wise proverbs, worth keeping. But occasions occur, once in a while, when working hastily is a great deal better than not working at all, and may be working to some purpose too. I remember a case of this kind."

Book Where Two or More Are Gathered

Download or read book Where Two or More Are Gathered written by Davie Lee Ryan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-06-09 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where Two or More Are Gathered by Davie Lee Ryan I dedicated this book to you from God through me. This book contains very powerful messages and quotes that I have received both while either going through trials and tribulations or simply being still and praying for answers. To hear God within, its neither rocket science nor magic tricks or spells. God did not make it hard for us to feel and hear his divine spirit within. We must simply be still consistently and pray daily with a cleansed body/temple to ultimately feel and hear with clarity, meaning that the most effective way to feel and hear God is to eliminate all foods and liquids that do not belong in our bodies such as meats, fluoride, alcohol, and drugs of any kind. Also, we must abstain from sex of any kind and consistently meditate while being still. If you are married, have your spouse try this with you. It could mean a bright new beginning for you both. I would suggest seven days at least or more of eating only fruits and vegetables, drinking only water, and praying three or more times a day. I have categorized this book according to what you may be going through or experiencing at this very moment as I have been through so many different trials and tribulation and probably have been through exactly what you are going through right now. I pray this book will bring you comfort, healing, and the answers to the questions you seek. May peace be upon you. Enjoy.

Book Where Two Or Three Are Gathered

Download or read book Where Two Or Three Are Gathered written by Scott Leonard Keith and published by New Reformation Publications. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We need to rediscover dangerous friendships. Dangerous relationships with people who aren't exactly like us, because friendship, creativity, and debate are essential. In Where Two or Three are Gathered, Dr. Scott Keith has collected essays from several of his friends to reflect on the nature of friendship. Stories of historical friendships from the Ancient Near East to the pubs of modern Oxford are told. The benefits of friends walking together and confiding in each other are also extolled. Each section takes a unique approach. Some are academic, others are pastoral, while the rest are more down to earth. Not all friends are alike, and thus not all the chapters in this little book are alike. Yet, there is something uniquely special about this work on friendship written by a group of friends. We hope you enjoy this short work given to you by your friends at 1517.
