As a senior lecturer and outreach expert with Gateways Seminars, Rabbi Mordechai Becher has helped thousands of people reconnect with the beauty, wisdom and relevance of their Jewish heritage. Often asked to recommend "just one book" that would explain the essentials of Jewish life and thought , he decided to write it himself! Delving beneath common perceptions of Jewish tradition, Rabbi Becher presents fresh and meaningful perspectives that will educate and inspire you. Among the many intriguing topics he addresses are: Is there spirituality in Judaism? In our age of labor-saving devices, do we still need a Sabbath? What is Judaism's view on death and the afterlife? Why is Judaism so full of laws? Why should I pray? Does God really want to hear my complaints? Can Judaism enhance my marriage? Isn't circumcision just an ancient rite of initiation? Is it still relevant? Why is Israel so central to Judaism? Does a religion need a land? Why does a mourner say Kaddish? Wasn't keeping kosher a health measure? Does it still have a purpose today? How can I add meaning to my Passover Seder? Gateway to Judaism reveals Judaism's power to elevate your life. Whether you are new to Jewish tradition, familiar with its practice, or simply curious, you will find this book an illuminating guide to a joyous and fulfilling lifestyle. -- from dust cover.

Book The Journey to Your Ultimate Self

Download or read book The Journey to Your Ultimate Self written by Rabbi Shmuel Reichman and published by Mosaica Press. This book was released on 2022-01-17 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone will agree that a story needs an ending; unless a story goes somewhere, it’s pointless. The purpose of a set-up is to lead toward a conclusion, toward a destination. A story without an ending, without a purpose, is not a story worth telling. The same is true for our lives: we need a destination. We are all part of a larger story, but we’re also writing our own individual stories. Hashem created us in this world with unlimited potential, but that was only the “set-up” ― the beginning of our story. Without a purposeful destination, a clear goal, and a deeper understanding of who we are and who we are meant to be, the set-up lacks true meaning. We need to make this a meaningful journey ― a story of growth, creativity, and contribution. This book is written to help you along your personal journey, to help you become the ultimate version of yourself. As you learn through this sefer, plant the ideas within your mind and soul, and bring them to life. Make your life a meaningful journey, an extraordinary story.

Download or read book Kabbalah and Catastrophe written by Hartley Lachter and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2024-10-22 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While premodern kabbalistic texts were not chronicles of historical events, they provided elaborate models for understanding the secret divine plan guiding human affairs. Hartley Lachter analyzes innovative kabbalistic doctrines, such as the idea of reincarnation and the notion of multiple successive universes, through which Jewish mystics sought to demonstrate that the misfortunes of Jewish history were in fact necessary steps toward redemption. Lachter argues that these works, mostly composed between the early 14th century and the generation affected by the Spanish expulsion in the early 16th century, enabled Jewish readers to make sense of the troubling misfortunes of their own time. Kabbalah and Catastrophe uncovers the remarkable variety of ways that kabbalists deployed esoteric tradition to argue that God had not abandoned the Jews to the inscrutable forces of history. Instead, they suggested to readers that Jews are history's primary actors, and that despite their small numbers and lack of military power, Jews nonetheless secretly push history forward. For scholars of Jewish mysticism and medieval Jewish history, Lachter articulates how premodern mystical texts can be crucial sources of insight into how Jews understood the meaning of history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women at the Crossroads: A Woman's Perspective on the Weekly Torah Portion comprises 53 essays pertaining to women based on each of the weekly Torah Portions throughout the year. Rebbetzin Chana Bracha Siegelbaum discusses in-depth the characters and dilemmas of the women in the Torah that are relevant to the issues which women encounter today. The author explores the underlying values of laws and rituals that pertain to women by examining the inherent nature of women as presented in the Torah. Based on the intricacies of the Torah text, she shows the beauty and depth of the role of women as portrayed in the Torah and teaches the importance of women and their immense influence on society as prime movers of history. The book is divided into five chapters, corresponding to the five books of the Torah. Each chapter is divided into sections according to each Torah portion. In addition, it includes a comprehensive and useful compilation of biographies of the commentaries quoted in the book. Expounding the Torah text through methodical research of Midrash, Talmud and traditional commentators, such as Rashi and the Ramban, placed side-by-side with Chassidic masters like the Me'or v'Shemesh and modern commentators including Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan, Rebbetzin Chana Bracha Siegelbaum weaves together the strands that make up the tapestry of life for the contemporary woman.Rather than paying homage to the external, competitive, masculine world, the author demonstrates how Jewish women of today may look inwards to the women in the Torah for guidance in choosing their priorities in life.

Book excerpt: Trumpets were extremely important in the lives of the people of ancient Israel. Through the use of trumpets God spoke to them, guided them, warned them, and directed them. It was the duty of the priests to sound the trumpets at the appropriate times. But sometimes God Himself spoke to them directly, such as at Mt. Sinai, when in awful and terrifying grandeur the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder as the mighty God of heaven descended in fire, and the mountain trembled violently. This spectacular demonstration was to prepare the hearts of the people to receive with reverence and awe the pronouncement of His holy ten commandment law (Ex. 19:16 – 20:21). In fact, trumpets were often connected with the law and the ark of the covenant, which contained it. Priests blowing trumpets were to precede and accompany the ark whenever it was transported. An example of this is found in Joshua 6:1-20, where 7 priests blowing 7 trumpets marched before the ark around the city of Jericho for 7 days, and on the seventh day they blew the trumpets 7 times, and as the people shouted, the walls of the city collapsed. Is the God of heaven any less zealous for His sacred law today than He was in ancient times? Could it be that even now in our day He is allowing trumpets to blow to warn of the impending collapse of the cities of the nations, which are so filled with crime and corruption? Will He not rise from His throne and oversee the final dispensation of justice upon a world, which is careening toward self-destruction? Read the pages of this book and discover the meaning of the extraordinary events that have been happening since the turn of the century, and find the way into the safety of God’s pavilion.

Book Not Just Bird Food

Download or read book Not Just Bird Food written by Andrew Jay Heavner and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-10-27 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Included in these “pages” are quips and some of mans greatest conundrums explained in plain English. Such as “Man made a monkey out of himself but God did not create him that way.” These short and even the longer combined “Tweets”, sometimes a paragraph, are statements of Gods true Creation science. Having the subject of Creation science understood, and God’s general revelation to mankind through His creation, then one can truly aspire to self help. There are also short stories (very short micro stories even), celebrities of Christianity quoted, and the true historical account of The Holy Bible KJV. I drew upon my learning first under William Massey at Frontenac, whom was more of a hell fire and brimstone preacher which I and we all need to fear The Lord Jesus not just Him as The Savior but to ADMIT to our SIN, CONFESS ALL sin publicly to be held accountable and Jesus forgives past, present, and future so you cannot lose your salvation. If satan reminds you of your past remind him of his future. Then REPENT, turn from sin, run from evil don’t walk so Jesus can FORGIVE and justify you with His finished work on the cross of Calvary for humanity. Afterward, we are sanctified (Luke 2:52) into the fullness of Christ Jesus of Nazareth. Then Malcolm Wild continued the edification work at Calvary Chapel Merritt Island. They both helped me grow as Luke 2:52 says, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” I acknowledge the supreme importance of learning The Word of God The Holy Bible KVJ and putting it into practice (James 1:22) because It is inspired, infallible, inerrant, eternal nature and blessing upon mankind as God gave us directions in it’s map of Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (BIBLE). It is The only Thing we can take with us that will last forever! To those who don’t know The Word of God The Holy Bible KJV I would have to say “Do you own a Bible KJV, read The Bible KJV, study The Bible KJV, and know It, KJV? Is The KJV The ultimate Authority? If not why not? How can you judge something you don’t own, read, study, or understand? What do you really believe and are willing to stake your life upon???
