Book Gas Chromatographic Analysis of Trace Impurities

Download or read book Gas Chromatographic Analysis of Trace Impurities written by V. G. Berezkin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-05-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent scientific and industrial developments have demon strated the major effects (advantageous or otherwise) of trace components in compounds, which in commercial products may substantially affect the properties and the course of reactions, especially catalytic ones. Some of these problems (e.g., the pur ity of natural waters and air) have attracted the attention not only of specialists but also of society generally. It would be impossible to do research on trace components and contaminants if we did not have reliable rapid and sensitive methods of determining substances present in mixtures in minute concentrations. Gas chromatography is an effective method of purity testing. This book deals with analysis for trace components, together with the basic methods of gas chromatography that are used for the purpose. We have tried to reflect here the principal papers in this area appearing in the foreign literature and in Rus sian. Weare indebted to Plenum Pre~'B for the opportunity of pre senting this edition. Moscow September 1972 v Preface Gas -chromatographic analysis for impurities is presently a rapidly developing area in gas chromatography, because many practical topics give considerable importance to impurity analy sis. Progress in this analysis bas been such for volatile com pounds (and also for nonvolatile ones, when reactive gas chroma tography is used) that one can now be confident of solving most practical problems in this way. Commercial ionization detectors of high sensitivity and selectivity often allow one to detect impuri ties down to levels of parts in 109.

Book Analytical Reaction Gas Chromatography

Download or read book Analytical Reaction Gas Chromatography written by Viktor G. Berezkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most universal and effective method for the analysis of complex multicomponent mixtures of volatile substances is gas chromatography. However, there are a number of limitations asso ciated with the classical variation of this technique which retard its development and the further expansion of its application: 1) the identification of the components of a complex mix ture of unknown composition is in itself a complex and difficult problem, unless the homologous series of the component to be identified is known; 2) the overlapping of chromatographic peaks for several compounds makes it difficult, and in a number of cases impossible, to carry out qualitative and quantitative analysis of these components, and leads to the necessity of using several columns of different polarities or to the use of columns with very high efficiency; 3) the direct analysis of unstable and nonvolatile compounds is impossible; 4) the difficulty of quantitative chromatographic analysis using thermal conductivity detectors increases with the necessity of determining individual response (calibration) factors; the insensitivity of the flame ionization detector to a number of substances (inorganic gases) leads to the necessity of introducing additional operations (prelimi nary concentration of trace components) in connection with thermal conductivity detectors. vii viii FOREWORD The directed use of chemical conversion of the compounds analyzed usually makes it possible to remove the limitations cited above.

Book Determination of Trace Hydrocarbon Impurities in High Purity Chemicals from Petroleum by Gas Chromatography

Download or read book Determination of Trace Hydrocarbon Impurities in High Purity Chemicals from Petroleum by Gas Chromatography written by R. A. Klett and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas chromatography, using packed columns and hydrogen flame-ionization detection, is used to identify and determine trace impurities in many high purity petrochemicals, such as benzene, cyclohexane, methyl cyclohexane, toluene, ethylbenzene, isopropylbenzene, styrene, -methylstyrene and propylene. Impurities in concentrations as low as 0.5 ppm may be detected. Using reproducible and equal volume injections, quantitative results are determined by comparing the detector response obtained for known levels of some impurity in a properly prepared standard blend with the detector response obtained for the impurities in a comparable sample.

Book Gas Chromatography in Air Pollution Analysis

Download or read book Gas Chromatography in Air Pollution Analysis written by V.G. Berezkin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-04-25 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air pollution determination is one of the most important fields of gas chromatography application in practice. This book provides a systematic description of the main stages of air pollution determination, ranging from sampling problems to the quantitative estimation of the acquired data. Special attention is paid to the problem of gas, vapor, spray and solid particles extraction from air. The main methods of sampling procedure, namely, container utilization, cryogenic concentration, absorption, adsorption, chemisorption and filter usage, and successive impurities extraction are also handled. Sorption theory and the problems of sorption and desorption efficiency for hazardous impurities being extracted from traps with sorbents are discussed in detail. The practical utilization of different sorbents (silica, activated carbon, polymers etc.) to carry out sampling procedures for 200 main pollutants with known TLV (USSR and USA) is also considered. This highly informative book, reflecting several insufficiently known techniques as well as the experience of both western and Soviet researchers, should be of interest to both beginners and skilled researchers.

Book The Analysis of Gases by Chromatography

Download or read book The Analysis of Gases by Chromatography written by C. J. Cowper and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended to enable trained scientists to equip themselves to successfully perform analyses of complex gas mixtures. The equipment and the considerations governing the choice of carrier gas are described in detail. Selection of methods for use on complex mixtures often involves the choice of more than one column; the separating capabilities of column packing and how they can be used in combinations are described and numerous examples are given. The handling of samples prior to separation and the calculation of results after separation, including calibration, are described. Throughout, special emphasis is given to the differences between gas analysis and the better documented liquid analysis.

Book The Concentration of High Boiling Impurities from Low Boiling Compounds by Reverese Flow Gas Chromatography

Download or read book The Concentration of High Boiling Impurities from Low Boiling Compounds by Reverese Flow Gas Chromatography written by Amos S. Newton and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The characteristics of gas chromatography peaks arising from various compounds when the column flow is reversed has been studied. It is shown that all compounds are eluted after reversal of the flow with the peak maximum at a time equal to or less than the time of flow reversal. The half width of the reverse peak is determined by a constant related to the number of plates in the column, and the square root of twice the time of flow reversal multiplied by the square root of the time of emergence of the compound when run in the forward direction. The method appears applicable to the concentration of trace high boiling impurities in any matrix in which the bulk components can be rapidly eluted through a suitable column.
