Book Garcke and Fells Factory Accounts

Download or read book Garcke and Fells Factory Accounts written by J. M. Fells and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Garcke and Fells: Factory Accounts: In Principle and Practice a Handbook for Accounts and Manufactures With Appendices on the Nomenclature of Machine Details and the Rating of Factories; And Table for the Amortization of Leases Including Also a Glossary of Terms and a Large Number of Specim As stated in the Preface to the first edition, this work is the first attempt to place before English readers a systematised statement of the principles relating to Factory Accounts, and of the methods by which those principles can be put into practice, and made to serve important purposes in the economy of manufacture. Our aim has been to show not only that as great a degree of accuracy can be attained in factory book-keeping as in commercial accounts, but that the books of a manufacturing business can scarcely be said to be complete and reliable unless supplemented by, and to a large extent based upon, the accounts special to a factory, and we mentioned that in attempting to supply a want which was known to exist, we but indicated the direction for useful work. This path has been pursued by others as well as ourselves, and their helpful criticisms, commentaries, and our own continuous study of the subject, have enabled us to place before our readers a book which is of practical service under present-day conditions. Book British Cost Accounting 1887 1952 RLE Accounting

Download or read book British Cost Accounting 1887 1952 RLE Accounting written by Trevor Boyns and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-01-23 with total page 938 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology provides readers with a flavour of the development of cost accounting and emerging management accounting literature from ‘The Costing Renaissance’ to 1952. Many of the issues which were prominent in the middle of the twentieth century are still pressing issues today and received important early treatments. However, a more balanced longitudinal coverage of the relevant material enables readers to trace the development of new attitudes to problems which had been recognized early on and to become aware of the fact that different issues tended to dominate the literature as time went by. The selection bias has favoured material which was covered for the first time or in a new way.

Book Understanding Accounting in its Social and Historical Context

Download or read book Understanding Accounting in its Social and Historical Context written by Anne Loft and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-04 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Underlying this book, first published in 1988, is the belief that it is insightful to examine accounting not as merely a technical process, nor as a technical process with social and political consequences, but as an activity which is both social and political in itself. One way of illuminating the social nature of accounting is through studying its cultural variations, for although accounting is a feature of modern industrial society the extent of its use varies across cultures. This book examines the history of accounting and explores the complicated relationship between accounting and society.

Book Work Wealth and Postmodernism

Download or read book Work Wealth and Postmodernism written by Bradley Bowden and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-12 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work examines the rise of postmodernism in management scholarship and argues that the prevalence of postmodernist thought reflects a lack of understanding by management researchers of the core principles upon which Western business endeavour is based. The author highlights postmodernism’s methodological and conceptual failings, such as disbelief in material progress and economic advancement, and its denial of generalizable laws to direct management research. In its place, the author proposes a return to traditional modernist principles in management research, based on scientific evidence. This ground breaking, timely work will spark debate and challenge previously accepted claims of postmodernism, a nice retort to the anti-business/anti-capitalist literature now prevalent in academia.

Book Reporting Fixed Assets in Nineteenth Century Company Accounts

Download or read book Reporting Fixed Assets in Nineteenth Century Company Accounts written by J. Edwards and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the way in which businessmen responded to the new problem of accounting for fixed assets when measuring periodic profit. The book is divided into four sections: the first embraces items that examine asset valuation procedures in general use during the nineteenth century. The second focuses on the particular practices that became popular among public utility companies. The third comprises studies on influences, particularly legal ones on the treatment of fixed assets in company accounts. The final section examines the likely economic effect of using particular valuation procedures and is another area where available material is scarce. Of the twenty-seven items included, seven were written during the nineteenth century and the remainder during the twentieth. Their emphasis is practical rather than theoretical: they set out the various ways in which companies accounted for fixed assets and provide some explanation for the choices made.
