Book Mahatma Gandhi s Concept of War and Peace

Download or read book Mahatma Gandhi s Concept of War and Peace written by T. Suseela and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of Mahatma Gandhi's life and work as a subject of philosophical importance always arouses a lot of curiosity. It is mainly because Gandhiji was not a systematic academic thinker in the field of either metaphysics or political philosophy. He was an inspired teacher and a messiah of peace. All his works are an expression of his deepest feelings and his most sincere realization of truth which are in fact, his efforts to establish peace. Thus in all writings of Mahatma Gandhi one finds a unity of thought which centers around peace. He himself says in his work on non-violent ways to world peace: There is no hope for the world except through the narrow and straight path of non-violence. Millions like me may fail to prove the truth in their own lives, that will be their failure never of the external law"3. There is no other way to the world order, world peace, world unity and world security except the non-violent social order. War has been waged for the performance duty. The Gita exhorts men to fight like a karmayogi. To Gandhiji the philosophy of the Gita was activism. The present book helps to know the real meaning of War and Peace.

Book A Letter to a Hindu

Download or read book A Letter to a Hindu written by Leo Tolstoy and published by Lindhardt og Ringhof. This book was released on 2023-01-12 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many letters can be claimed to have been as influential as this? Leo Tolstoy's 'Letter to a Hindu' was originally sent to the Indian revolutionary and scholar Tarak Nath Das. Its circulation saw it spotted by a young Mahatma Gandhi, who was living in South Africa and printed it in his newspaper, Indian Opinion. In the letter, Tolstoy argues that only love would enable the Indian people to gain independence from Britain. It helped Gandhi form his revolutionary ideas around non-violence, which eventually saw India freed from colonial rule. 'A Letter to a Hindu' actually includes a foreword from Gandhi, who became firm friends with the Russian author. Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) was a Russian author, a master of realistic fiction and one of the world’s greatest novelists. Tolstoy’s major works include 'War and Peace' (1865–69) and 'Anna Karenina' (1875–77), two of the greatest novels of all time and pinnacles of realist fiction. Beyond novels, he wrote many short stories and later in life also essays and plays. In the years following the publication of 'War and Peace' Tolstoy - who was born to a Russian aristocratic family - had a spiritual awakening that made him a committed Christian anarchist and pacifist. His philosophy inspired Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.

It traces the evolution of the message of peace from its first expressions in South Africa to Gandhi’s later campaigns against British rule in India, most prominently the Salt March campaign of 1930. It argues that Gandhi’s blueprint for change must be adopted in the present, as the world craters on the precipice of catastrophic climate change, and the threat of nuclear war hangs over our heads. A timely book for uncertain times, this work is a reminder of the value of peace in the 21st century.
