Book Bandit

Download or read book Bandit written by Molly Brodak and published by Icon Books. This book was released on 2016-10-06 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Raw, poetic and compulsively readable ... I can't wait to buy a copy for everyone I know.' Kathryn Stockett, author of The Help The summer she turned thirteen, Molly Brodak's father was arrested for robbing eleven banks. In time, the image she held of him would unravel further, as more and more unexpected facets of his personality came to light. Bandit is her attempt to discover what, exactly, is left, when the most fundamental relationship of your life turns out to have been built on falsehoods. It is also a scrupulously honest account of learning how to trust again, and to rebuild the very idea of family from scratch. Refusing to fence off the trickier sides of her father's character, Brodak tries to find, through crystalline, spellbinding prose, a version of him that does not rely on the easy answers but allows him to be: an unknowable and incomprehensible whole – who is also her father. Unforgettable, moving, and utterly relatable, Bandit is a story of the unpredictable complexity of family.

Download or read book Bandit Algorithms written by Tor Lattimore and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-07-16 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decision-making in the face of uncertainty is a significant challenge in machine learning, and the multi-armed bandit model is a commonly used framework to address it. This comprehensive and rigorous introduction to the multi-armed bandit problem examines all the major settings, including stochastic, adversarial, and Bayesian frameworks. A focus on both mathematical intuition and carefully worked proofs makes this an excellent reference for established researchers and a helpful resource for graduate students in computer science, engineering, statistics, applied mathematics and economics. Linear bandits receive special attention as one of the most useful models in applications, while other chapters are dedicated to combinatorial bandits, ranking, non-stationary problems, Thompson sampling and pure exploration. The book ends with a peek into the world beyond bandits with an introduction to partial monitoring and learning in Markov decision processes.

  • Author : Qing Zhao
  • Publisher : Springer Nature

  • Pages : 147 pages

Download or read book Multi Armed Bandits written by Qing Zhao and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-armed bandit problems pertain to optimal sequential decision making and learning in unknown environments. Since the first bandit problem posed by Thompson in 1933 for the application of clinical trials, bandit problems have enjoyed lasting attention from multiple research communities and have found a wide range of applications across diverse domains. This book covers classic results and recent development on both Bayesian and frequentist bandit problems. We start in Chapter 1 with a brief overview on the history of bandit problems, contrasting the two schools—Bayesian and frequentist—of approaches and highlighting foundational results and key applications. Chapters 2 and 4 cover, respectively, the canonical Bayesian and frequentist bandit models. In Chapters 3 and 5, we discuss major variants of the canonical bandit models that lead to new directions, bring in new techniques, and broaden the applications of this classical problem. In Chapter 6, we present several representative application examples in communication networks and social-economic systems, aiming to illuminate the connections between the Bayesian and the frequentist formulations of bandit problems and how structural results pertaining to one may be leveraged to obtain solutions under the other.

Book The Psammead Trilogy Illustrated Edition

Download or read book The Psammead Trilogy Illustrated Edition written by Edith Nesbit and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-11-13 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five Children and It begins with a group of children that move from London to the countryside of Kent. The five children – Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and their baby brother, known as the Lamb – are playing in a gravel pit when they uncover a rather grumpy, ugly, and occasionally malevolent Psammead or sand-fairy, who has the ability to grant wishes. The Phoenix and the Carpet follows the further adventures of Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane and the Lamb. Their mother buys the children a new carpet to replace one from the nursery that they have destroyed in an accidental fire. The children find an egg in the carpet, which hatches into a talking Phoenix. The Phoenix explains that the carpet is a magic one that will grant them three wishes a day. In The Story of the Amulet the children re-encounter the Psammead. However, as it no longer grants wishes to the children, its capacity is mainly advisory in relation to the children's other discovery, the Amulet, thus following a successfully established formula. Edith Nesbit (1858-1924) was the author of world famous books for children - the tales of fantastical adventures, journeys back in time and travel to magical worlds. Nesbit also wrote for adults, including novels, short stories and four collections of horror stories.
