They learn about space travel, greening planets, deception and betrayal. It all begins one evening. Nikki and Peter are doing homework when they are disturbed by a crash. They investigate to find Sowelu - a flying piglet and member of the Astro Piglet Guild - has landed in their yard in a distressed state. The children help her and in return Sowelu grants them their wish and tries to take them to Mars in her galaxy hopper space craft to find her lost pig love, Romeo. The galaxy hopper travels in Superquicktime and the children use their intergalactic-gosmos- antimatterdivetmakers to enter wormholes and visit antimatter planets. They also encounter Archie Kinestra's finest inventions, his hybrid flying pigs. The galaxy hopper develops mechanical problems and the children are sucked into a wormhole where they meet the evil traitor, Dr Carr Bunkel.

Since then Marie has refined and illustrated earlier drafts. Marie’s unique design of Silk has emerged gradually and marks development of her book design and research illustration skills. I wrote this play at the end of the series, which is obvious as it combines elements of the myth and silk story. This verse play incorporates an original Weaving Maiden tale and the story of Silk. Marie Lukic envisages this play would work well as an easy introduction to Shakespearean influence in language, or alternatively in middle years as a play that may be performed for primary students. Whether classroom reading, a musical/pop opera, circus, a film, or a hybrid with choreographed dance and a few songs—Silk provides words and verse, and a wonderful opportunity to present talent to a wide variety of audiences. Silk’s memorable heavenly scenes are beautiful. More than the celebrated Weaving Maiden creation myth, Silk builds new situations and characters. One such character is Fortune, always close to the natural habitat of the play. The Emperor and Empress of Heaven are powerful characters with presence. The battle of the sexes and family crises are captured in dramatic scenes. They include several key settings, relatively simply created—a great opportunity for students/actors to put together sets and find slides as backdrops. I have included ninja Fortune and her warrior offsider as the fascinating new narrators. The Hello China series is relevant to Year 7 SOSE/Humanities classes.
