Book Galaxy Golden Stars of the Silver Screen

Download or read book Galaxy Golden Stars of the Silver Screen written by Dr. Jaskiran Chopra and published by Idea Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book hopes to capture some of the magic created by the famous stars –heroes, heroines, villains, comedians, character actors- as well as playback singers and music directors and of course, directors of the golden era of Hindi cinema that spanned the 1960s and 1970s.This magic still lives on and I hope this book will play a role in keeping it alive and passing it on to the coming generations. The genius of these towering personalities does not end with them- it provides a peep into a time that had a romance and artistic feel all of its own. I was fortunate to have been part of it since my childhood, when the love affair with Hindi cinema started. My parents simply loved to watch films and my brother and I always went with them. So we were initiated into this magical world quite early in life And it stayed with us alongwith lingering memories of songs and stars on cinema screens in theatres now long vanished. This magic, those memories, that fascination is now pushing me to put on paper my love for Hindi cinema’s most beautiful era. Through my personal fondness and emotional connection with the films and stars of this era, I hope to bring a warm touch to their profiles. With this nostalgic lens, I hope to bring out the features no longer visible in present-day films, their themes or characters. This book takes one back into a world where emotions, romance, melody and a very different set of moral values prevailed in our cinema. Charisma too was a dominant force on the silver screen and my book highlights its various ineffable aspects. Chetan Anand ‘s fine directorial skill, Raj Kapoor’s showmanship, Dilip Kumar’s perfection as the king of tragedy, Madhubala’s ethereal beauty and vibrancy or Dev Anand;s

Stardom is approached as an effect of, and influence on, the particular historical and industrial contexts that enabled these actors and actresses to be discovered, featured in films, publicized, and to become recognized and admired-sometimes even notorious-parts of the cultural landscape. Using archival and popular material, including fan and mass market magazines, other promotional and publicity material, and of course films themselves, contributors also discuss other artists who were incredibly popular at the time, among them Ann Harding, Ruth Chatterton, Nancy Carroll, Kay Francis, and Constance Bennett.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hindi film song has held millions spellbound for nearly eight decades. In this unputdownable ‘labour of love’, India’s leading film song historian, Raju Bharatan, delves deep into his treasure trove to tell us how singing is all about romancing, how composing is all about feelings, how the twain, stardom and songdom, do meet to make the vintage film number a part of the nation’s psyche. He reconstructs song happenings over the last sixty years or so to condense the emotion and passion going into legendary star hook-ups, showing us how with the pairing comes the vibe, with the vibe comes the tune, and with the tune unfolds cinema that is a ‘Madhuballad’ all the way. This volume also describes the creative inputs of music directors, lyricists and singers that go into the making of a Hindi film song. It is a compendium that no one can afford to miss! Raju Bharatan is popularly recognized as the last word on film music in India – as the only one physically there ‘on the scene’ through the decades. His knowledge of Hindustani cinesangeet is matched only by his grip on Indian cricket. He now packs fifty years of musical lore into a work sure to command a niche on your bookshelf.

Book Historical Dictionary of African American Cinema

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of African American Cinema written by S. Torriano Berry and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-05-07 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As early as 1909, African Americans were utilizing the new medium of cinema to catalogue the world around them, using the film camera as a device to capture their lives and their history. The daunting subject of race and ethnicity permeated life in America at the turn of the twentieth century and due to the effect of certain early films, specific television images, and an often-biased news media, it still plagues us today. As new technologies bring the power of the moving image to the masses, African Americans will shoot and edit on laptop computers and share their stories with a global audience via the World Wide Web. These independently produced visions will add to the diverse cache of African American images being displayed on an ever-expanding silver screen. This wide range of stories, topics, views, and genres will finally give the world a glimpse of African American life that has long been ignored and has yet to be seen. This second edition of Historical Dictionary of African American Cinema covers its history through a chronology, an introductory essay, appendixes, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has over 1400 cross-referenced entries on actors, actresses, movies, producers, organizations, awards, and terminology, this book provides a better understanding of the role African Americans played in film history. This book is an excellent access point for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about African American cinema.
