Book Gaining Weight 1O1

Download or read book Gaining Weight 1O1 written by Scot Standke and published by Editora Bibliomundi. This book was released on 2021 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being a skinny guy is challenging enough in a world where everyone else is at a “normal” weight, but when more than half of the people in this country are overweight it’s downright tough. Everywhere you look there are weight loss products, on TV, magazines, billboards and in every store you shop in. Fat free, low-fat, low carb... this stuff is everywhere, taunting you. The message all around you is “lose weight, lose weight”, but that’s the last thing you want to do. Most products that are designed to help people achieve their ideal body are created for people who need to lose fat and they just won’t work for you. You want to have a body like the one you see in those commercials, but somehow it seems out of reach for you. Another downside to being a skinny guy in a fat world is that nobody understands you. It would be totally inappropriate to cal an overweight person “fatty” and poke fun at them and you could probably get fired from your job if you did that at work. But, people have no problem calling you “slim” or “bony” or poking fun at you for being skinny. The name calling and joking around at your expense may be just as demeaning and hurtful, but it isn’t politically incorrect because people think that being skinny is preferable to being fat, I suppose. But, come on, not for a guy! Guys are supposed to be strong, muscular and confident, not skinny and weak. Even though it is supposedly preferable to be skinny, you can tell that even the chubby guys get more respect than you do. And when it comes to women? Forget about it. No contest at all. The chubby guy gets more dates than you do. Women want a strong man and even the chubby guy has bigger muscles and more strength than you do. The totally in shape muscular guy? Wel he has more dates than he knows what to do with. Maybe you don’t want to date every girl in town, but guess what? It sure is great to have options. Skinny guys don’t have as many options. There are only so many women that are interested in skinny guys and they may not be the type of woman that you want to date and possibly marry someday. I can tell you why that is, too. No woman wants to date a guy with a smaller waistline than they have. Even a slender gal has a problem with that; it makes her feel fat. The bottom line is: being a skinny guy in a fat world is just no fun at all. You don’t get the respect you want at home or at work. You don’t get as many dates as the more muscular, or even worse the chubby guy gets. You have less confidence, which means you don’t always take the chance to go for the things you real y want in life. You’re a smart guy and you are capable of so much more than this in your life. The time has come to turn the tables and achieve your dreams...

Book excerpt: Given the rapid increase in the worldwide incidence of gestational diabetes, the need for defining the risks and effects associated with raised glucose concentrations in pregnancy is great. Recent large studies are helping to define the risks, as well as identify the benefits of reducing glucose intolerance. Written by an esteemed list of international authors, Gestational Diabetes: Origins, Complications, and Treatment presents timely reviews relating to some of the most important aspects of gestational diabetes, specifically its causes, consequences, and treatments. Divided into five sections, the book begins with a section on metabolism in pregnancy and gestational diabetes, dealing with maternal and foetal glucose metabolism and the controversial area of what actually constitutes gestational diabetes. The next section examines risk factors and causes of gestational diabetes, including the obvious but often overlooked factors—being female and pregnant. The text also outlines environmental and genetic risk factors. The third section deals with the potential complications of gestational diabetes for both mother and offspring, considering short-term and long-term effects. The largest section in the book addresses treatments in an effort to improve the outcome for the mother and the baby. Chapters describe the nutritional approach, considered the cornerstone of treating gestational diabetes, as well as evidence for the role of exercise in its treatment and a useful strategy for treating gestational diabetes pharmacologically. The final section discusses future prospects in screening, diagnosis, prevention, pathophysiology, and treatment of gestational diabetes.

Book Obesity and Pregnancy

Book excerpt: Unlike other areas of medicine where statistics are meticulously kept by governments and global organizations, there are no accurate data to describe the number of the world's inhabitants who are overweight, obese, or morbidly obese. Despite this knowledge deficit, it should come as no surprise to readers that the medical community is facing an epidemic. Obesity is present in many of the developed countries and can also be observed in some urban areas of developing nations. The cause of this epidemic, simply stated, is overeating, but the overriding concern is more complex. Social factors, such as growing affluence since the 1950s, increasing reliance on pre-prepared meals, and the popularity of fast foods and sweetened drinks, have all contributed to the problem. Without doubt, the obesity epidemic has had adverse effects on both men and women, but in the case of women, some of its worse complications occur with those who are severely obese and pregnant. Obviously, this combination has been seen in the past, but it has increased so dramatically in its frequency that research has yet to catch up. Studies may discuss one or another aspect of caring for the obese pregnant patient, but until now, there has been no attempt to draw all such material together to try and present a comprehensive appraisal of the problem. Written by international experts, this practical guide draws on evidence-based material and is an invaluable resource for healthcare professionals dealing with obese pregnant women on a day-to-day basis.

Book Spontaneous Combustion of Coal

Download or read book Spontaneous Combustion of Coal written by Xinyang Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to understand, analyze and mitigate the harmful impacts of spontaneous coal combustion in underground mines, a thermal phenomenon that triggers fires and explosions threatening the safety of mine workers globally. Based on experimental and theoretical research findings, the book emphasizes three essential questions that are fundamental to understand spontaneous coal combustion: What are the root causes? How to evaluate the causative factors to determine the activity of coal? and How to bring this issue under control in real longwall panel? Readers are introduced to experimental techniques applied to investigate the basic molecular structure of coal and evaluate chemical properties that induce self-heating behavior, theoretical analyses to predict the extrinsic effect on low temperature oxidation of coal in experimental scale and full-size longwall panel, and preventive measures to mitigate this issue using methods for retardant screening, numerical simulations for optimal grouting and nitrogen injections, and case studies analyzing thermal events using mine atmosphere gas monitoring data. The book will be of interest to students and researchers studying mining engineering and chemistry, as well as engineers and practitioners involved in coal mine development and risk assessment.
