Book excerpt: • Examines how integrating important alchemical images with Gaian science can offer insights into our interconnectedness with Gaia • Looks at how the four components of the living earth--biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere--mesh with the four elements of alchemical theory and the four functions of consciousness as understood by depth psychology • Offers guided meditations and contemplative exercises to open your receptivity to messages from the biosphere and help you connect more deeply with Gaia During the scientific revolution, science and soul were drastically separated, propelling humanity into four centuries of scientific exploration based solely on empiricism and rationality. But, as scientist and ecologist Stephan Harding, Ph.D., demonstrates in detail, by reintegrating science with profound personal experiences of psyche and soul, we can reclaim our lost sacred wholeness and help heal ourselves and our planet. The book begins with compelling introductions to depth psychology, alchemy, and Gaia theory--the science of seeing the Earth as an intelligent, self-regulating system, a theory pioneered by the author’s mentor James Lovelock. Harding then explores how alchemy, as understood through the depth psychology of C. G. Jung, offers us powerful methods of reuniting rationality and intuition, science and soul. He examines the integration of important alchemical engravings, including those from L’Azoth des Philosophes and the Rosarium Philosophorum, with Gaian science. He shows how the seven key alchemical operations in the Azoth image can help us develop deeply transformative experiences and insights into our interconnectedness with Gaia. He then looks at how the four components of the living Earth--biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere--mesh not only with the four elements of alchemical theory but also with the four functions of consciousness from depth psychology. Woven throughout with the author’s own experiences of Gaia alchemy, the book also offers guided meditations and contemplative exercises to open your receptivity to messages from the biosphere and help you develop your own Gaian alchemical way of life, full of wonder and healing.

Book excerpt: This second volume of digital mandalas is all about stars. When we look at the sky, we all see the same stars. In this way we are all connected through the universe. The mandala is a spiritual and ritualistic symbol in both Hinduism and Buddhism. In general, it is a microcosmic representation of the Universe. The mandala is used to help focus attention on spiritual guidance, and for mindful practices such as meditation. Most mandalas, especially today, are circular in design. The circle has long been a spiritual symbol of wholeness. But the use of mandalas isn't just spiritual. Therapists as far back as Carl Jung have often used mandalas with their patients. For the past 30 years I have used mandalas in my watercolor and silk paintings, as well as my glass jewelry fabrication, my cloth fabric dying, and the quilts I design and construct. Psychologists claim that coloring is the next best thing to meditation. I find mandalas are nearly as therapeutic to create as they are to color. Pick up your coloring book today and reconnect to your own internal universe.

Book excerpt: Describing the use of symbols in philosophy and religion, this book connects the Taoist symbol of the self—the diamond body—to the tetrahedron, as well as to the four valences of the carbon molecule, the basis of all life. Following these ideas further, the discussion details the close correspondence between the ancient wisdom of Lao Tsu and the symbolism of Jungian psychology—and also conjectures about the possibility of a more image-oriented view of science.

Download or read book Toasted Snow written by John P Boswell and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-05-14 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to Orhan Pamuk there is a saying in Turkey that the child who cannot stop crying needs some toasted snow to soothe their distress. This is one of a number of proverbs across cultures that recognise our need, our desire and our ongoing search for that which is well nigh impossible to achieve. This book follows a number of different protagonists who knowingly, or not, are engaged on such journeys and how they connect, disconnect and re-connect, or not, as they stumble to or from the explosive beginning in a Paris restaurant in the 1980s. The main story concerns the journeys of Tantan and Noizzie as they explore whether they are right for each other, as well as the friendships of Jay, Bo, Bruce and Jean from their different worlds of music, travel and art. Their lives are partly intertwined with that of two academics Marie Therese and Angelique, as well as the typically Parisians Emilie and her mother Cecille. Tantan's father, Daniel, appears to be invisible to all but it is he who is instrumental to the unfolding drama - drawn, as is Pierre, one of Tantan's fellow waiters in a Paris caf, to Draa, a dry river bed of a man, who has escaped to France. The experience of the characters in trying to comprehend what is important in learning how to live, to love, to understand and to die combines with the instances when inconsequential happenings change destinies. The Marais, the oldest part of Paris, with its potent mix of immigrant cultures over the centuries, features strongly and hidden gems, in and under its streets are exposed in the book.

Book Animate Earth

    Book Details:
  • Author : Stephan Harding
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2009-03-05
  • ISBN : 190744825X
  • Pages : 405 pages

Download or read book Animate Earth written by Stephan Harding and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2009-03-05 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exciting exploration into how Gaian science can help us to develop a sense of connectedness with the 'more-than-human' world. Written by ecologist Stephan Harding, Animate Earth argues that we need to establish the right relationship with the planet as a living entity in which we are indissolubly embedded - and to which we are all accountable. Now in its second edition, this fascinating book includes a new chapter on fungi, contemplative exercises and an update on the global climate situation. Stephan's work is based on careful integration of rational scientific analysis with our intuition, sensing and feeling - a vitally important task at this time of severe ecological and climate crisis. He replaces the cold, objectifying language of science with a way of speaking of our planet as a sentient, living being rather than as a dead, inert mechanism. Chemical reactions, for instance, are described using human metaphors, such as marriage, to bring personality back into the world of rocks, atmosphere, water and living things. In this sense, the book is a contemporary attempt to rediscover anima mundi (the soul of the world) through Gaian science, whilst assuming no prior knowledge of science. Discover what it means to live as harmoniously as possible within a sentient creature of planetary proportions with this inspiring read.

Book excerpt: Like the bestselling Waldorf Kindergarten Snack Book and the Waldorf School Book of Soups, this cookbook in the series provides yet another a rich resource for spending time in the kitchen with young children--this time baking bread. What child doesn't like to feel and knead bread dough, watch it rise, and then taste it fresh from the oven? Not only is such hands-on sensory experience fun for everyone, it is also invaluable to young children as they continue to incarnate into our world. These recipes have been handed down by grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and friends. They are easy to follow and encourage the baker, young and older alike, to use the best possible ingredients, making bread once again the healthy "staff of life" it once was. The Waldorf Book of Breads includes tasty breads for the daily table and specialty breads for the seasons and special occasions. And, like the Waldorf snack book and the book of soups, The Waldorf Book of Breads is spiral-bound, so it lies flat to make life in the kitchen a little easier. Book From Ancient Myth to Modern Healing

Download or read book From Ancient Myth to Modern Healing written by Pamela Donleavy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2008-06-30 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the energy personified by the classical Greek goddess Themis, who brought her divine and natural 'right order' to gods and humans, and who still presides over law courts as the figure of Justice. In many Western countries today, the growing dis-ease in minds and bodies of individuals is often echoed in whole communities. Rather than coming together, they seem to split apart in anger and distress. But themis energy is equally powerful, and can work to bring together and to heal. From the battle of the Titans and Olympians to the oracle at Delphi and the banquet of the gods, the stories of the goddess weave through these chapters to illuminate how themis energy is at work today. The authors explore psychological healing in individuals and relate this to new research in neurocardiology on the subtle interactions of body and mind. They show how the international movement for restorative justice is drawing on the same healing tools to benefit victims and offenders alike. And they evoke the extraordinary story of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which shows the world how themis energy can help transform a ravaged society. This book deepens understanding of the psychological urge towards healing and wholeness which is as much a part of human beings as the urge to destroy. It offers exciting new insights into Jung's unique approach to the relationship between individual and collective psychology. It will appeal to psychologists who work with individuals and groups, to lawyers and others concerned with the failure of current criminal justice systems, and to people involved in religious, political and other groups that seek to build communities which can encompass and even celebrate diversity rather than rejecting it in fear.
